  • I traveled down to Texas this past April to make it to one of the most popular car audio events in the country, Aggieland. On its tenth year, Chris Pate of Mobile Toys Inc. in College Station, Texas hosted a great show with a huge turn out. Our first spotlight of the weekend was everyone's favorite killer, Michael Myers :)

One of the methods that ive found works is measuring the drivers with no LP or HP filters. Then use your overall target sum/house curve to eq the the driver to. Once you apply the desired crossover the acoustic response will be dead on to the crossover slope and any tilt in the curve will be correctly represented in the slope as well for the crossover. So, basically the same thing as eqing directly to the crossover slope. Whats nice about that method is that it allows for different crossovers to be tried wihtout having to adjust any eq like if you wanted to try 12db vs 24db. The eq will already be correct for the extension of the 12db slope lower in the freq range and you wont have to try and re-eq ro the shallower slope.

I've done this in the past as well. It works

Must say this sounds like the most flexible method. Alternatives where people create a target curve (for ex. @RAW-CAt ) for each driver given pre-determined crossover points are much more limiting yet all methods (including the 2 mentioned in this video) should give the same end result :)
May I add 1 extra detail: Consider EQing each speaker to a very generic (flat or straight-sloped) target curve, because ideally any target curve should be user-editable as global PEQ on input (or as identical PEQs on each speaker channel). We do not want to bake-in target curve into corrective EQ of each individual speaker element - if possible.
      Thanks for sharing.

Absolutely AMAZING sounding system! Definitely what I am striving for in my system. Mike is a super nice guy and his wins were very well deserved.
