WILD CAMPING THE CUMBRIA WAY | Part 1 - Ulverston to Old Dungeon Ghyll

- We started wild campin the Cumbria way exactly four days after i finished wild camping the Cleveland way .. why? Because in a few weeks i'll be off to rehearsals for the ABBA tribute band and I want to make the most of my time off work lol! And what good timing for the weather, it was glorious :-) We drove to Ulverston where we parked the car at the train station long stay car park and made our way to the start line to begin this 70 mile adventure hiking and wild camping in the Lake District.
I did my first long distance national trail last year when i decided on a whim to buy a tent and catch a train to Scotland to wild camp the West Highland Way, I loved this adventure so much and it gave me something to focus on after being furloughed due to COVID. I then recently hiked the Cleveland Way.. starting April 12th, the first day we were allowed to travel out of our local areas.. I didnt hang about! The most recent lockdown had been hard for everyone and I can imagine it was as much of a release for you all as it was for me when that day finally came.
I really hope you enjoy watching our adventure, in part 1 we travel from the starting point in Ulverston to Old Dungeon Ghyll, I have done my best to try and include information you may find useful.. possible locations to wild camp on the Cumbria Way, pub stops on the trail and places you can fill up your water and supplies.

The tent I used on this UK hiking trail was the Salewa Litetrek 2, and the boots im wearing are Keen Targhee 3 which I cannot recommend enough! Especially for anyone who has wide feet and needs wide fitting hiking boots!

Great video Kerry. Some cracking views there. Yourself and Emma did great. Hard going with that pack. At least you're out and about. A wee tip I found through 10 whw trips was to every morning was to slather yer feet in vaseline before you you venture forth for the day and put your socks on. Sure helps for lubrication and friction on yer feet. Apart from that yous did great.x

Unbelievable weather for April and what a brilliant start - that sunset at the tarn was amazing, I felt like dancing too. I have subscribed to Emma's channel to see if she can help me out with my core😖. The gym tones everything up apart from that one problem area. Another amazing day🌞 but what a shame you could got stop and explore around Elterwater, one of Mrs Metalman's favourite places in the Lakes. I wondered what those rings were for on the side of Emma's pack - I thought they were Frisbees to start with. Hope you managed to go in the bar at the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, very characterful. I first went in there over 30 years ago, and went in again a couple of years ago. It was like time had stood still. Looking forward to part 2 🙂👍
Tbh we didn’t! We arrived so early in the morning it hadn’t opened yet! Hopefully when we go back to do the second half it will have though 😃

There's no denying you're a do-er Kerry. You get out there & do it, where as I buy the guides & all the kit then watch CZcams videos of the hikes 😂. I'm doing the nc500 wild camping in a campervan next month. Not as hardcore as you pair but for a withamer that's as wild as it gets. My son is just moaning about number 2's. Just won't feed him problem.solved. 🤣🤣

Hi Victoria, the hiking boots I use are Keen Targhee 3’s as I have wide feet x I have worn them on four long distance trails so far this year, plus plenty of day hikes and they have been superb! Thanks so much for watching x

@@DrunkOnWanderlust it's not all work, work, work! For the first 5 weeks i think I'll be finishing mid afternoon. We could always do a weekday late afternoon / evening and catch a sunset. Or there's always nighttime boating. Now, that's a horse of a different colour. I'll keep you posted 📬
