    i read somewhere that nuclear subs could stay down indefinitely, with no need for air or water, but that it's the limited amount of space for foodstuffs that makes them come up, so to speak. something about 3 months worth of food?

    • @ErichZornerzfun
      @ErichZornerzfun Před měsícem +8

      Yeah, it's around 4 months or so, depending on how much you cram into the ship. The bigger bottleneck is the crew as they can go stircrazy locked in the ceamped ship for too long, so usually subs spend much less time fully submerged.

    Anyone else notice how the conning tower is missing a window?

    • @jimthesoundman8641
      @jimthesoundman8641 Před měsícem

      It can be opened for ventilation. It's the copy of a Soviet design, all Soviet subs have windows in the conning tower because they operate north of the Arctic circle quite often and standing out on the unprotected conning tower is a recipe for severe frostbite.

    They build them that way to show everyone that they can do something that's very difficult. After all it's not easy being green.
