  • Three weeks into feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) treatment with the Mutian X brand of GS-441524 pills, Theo's ascites was getting worse instead of better. Nine out of 10 vets wanted to euthanize him. This educational video for veterinary surgeons is a case study on an ascitic cat called Theo.

I don't see changes yet. the first 4 days I injected her with 0.8 but they told me it's not enough, neuro cats need 1.5 ml (she is 2.5 kg). so basically she got 4x0.8 and 2x1.5 in six days.. I am sad, I want her to get better. we love her :(

My cat is five years old. He was diagnosed with fip in September last year and is being treated using a gs 441524 drug. The pleural fluid does not disappear. It was confirmed through ct imaging, ultrasound, and blood tests that it was not a different disease. However, even with long-term drug treatment, pleural effusion does not disappear. Tachypnea and pleural effusion were his first symptoms. Coronavirus was detected in the pcr test that was performed with a pleural puncture.
Could he be suffering from another disease? Or ask for advice on how to treat it

As for my experience with almost cat treated with fitp, oral medicine is not working on the first 2 weeks or 30 days of the treatment as the absorbant is low
My recommendation is Injection if it is already on a full blown shape.
I have 2 case of neural FIp that both limping but since it is still at the early stage and one of them is relapse case, I only give 1 time injection after that oral medicine for 45 days.
I did not continue the treatment since lack of fund. I have a shelter and at the same time treat 30 other cats with FIp. All of them with oral medicine and it is already 1 year.
The side effect is several cat develop flu that not easy to cure with antibiotic.

Hi, Dr. Addie. I am a big fan of you and your work. I've been collecting information on FIP for several years and I thought I was prepaired in case I have a cat with FIP, but I am in a doubt now. One of my cats, a 7-months-old has been diagnosed with wet FIP just with blood examination and ultrasound. I asked for a rapid antibody test and it was NEGATIVE. Two vets told me it was a 120% wet fip picture despite the negative antibody test and didn't perform any other exams of abdominal fluid or PCR, because the injectable drug is as expensive as sending fluid for PCR test and they considered it waste of money and time. The point is that my cat Jerry had and still has got a severe bacterial infection in his mouth. Actually we were to the vet's for teeth extraction and the vet noticed the difference in his belly. Then instead of teeth extraction we started talking about FIP. I am very afraid of starting the GS injections after I watched this video. Should I perform a PCR test before starting injections of GS? Vets said so soon I start GS so better for Jerry. It has been a week since his belly got ascites. Please, advice me.

@@DrDianeDAddie Thank you for noticing me. Jerry is still alive and with perfect bloodwork now. But it was a difficult way full of mistakes. We started GS injections immediately. The ascites got resolved in three weeks. Because Jerry didn't tolerate more injections (he became very agressive) on day 30 we changed injections with tablets. However during these 30 days every weekend something happened and he got worse at the weekend, with repeated fever that we solved with meloxicam. So we tried increasing the dossage of GS several times. But we were treating him with the wrong dossage for wet FIP from the beggining, ignoring it was actually mixed, neuro FIP. A sigle-time neuro symptom had occured even before we started the GS treatment but nobody identified it as such a symptom of neurological FIP. Until day 37 (after a week of tablets) when Jerry showed up clear weakness in his rear paws and tightness in his tail. On day 38 he got really bad, could't walk stable, got blind and breathed difficult. I thought it was the end... An admin from a FIP group adviced me to increase even more the dossage and start back again with the GS injections, but it was impossible for me to afford the cost of the drug for such a huge dossage. So I decided to try another way - molnupiravir. 48 hours after the first time I administered molnupiravir a miracle happened. He started breathing normally and trying to walk again. After one week of treatment with molnupiravir Jerry recovered totally, even the blindness got resolved. So I supposed he had developed ressistance to GS and that's why he got fever at the weekends. I'm so thankful and happy I discovered the power of molnupiravir. It saved the life of my Jerry. Treating the cat with molnupiravir capsules is much easier than stressful GS injections. I tested it on several cats with FIP and a I can confirm a dossage up to 30 mg/kg twice a day is absolutely safe.

To be fair her baby was about 2 weeks into the disease but she still worries that something may have been wrong with the GS. Has anyone else given their cat one injection of GS and their cat died ? I'm so sorry for your friend. One of my 10 rules for treating FIP is to NOT USE THE INJECTABLE FORM. What brand was it? Your comment is very fair and makes the point that it may not have been the GS that caused the death. An HPLC laboratory could test the GS for purity.
I have a pdf of the 10 rules on the FIP Treatment webpage at www.catvirus.com and I hope to make more videos explaining the rationale for these rules. Prof. Pedersen has written much about the different brands of GS. Mutian is the most published about and analysed. The MaxPaws pill seems to work. But I defer to Prof. Pedersen who has looked into the brands more than I have. In Europe the GS pills from gpl.cat.eu [at] gmail.com have been analysed for purity. (I don't like to write the email in such a way that bots can detect it.)

We sent the abdomen liquid for analysis and they found the virus in it. She has granulomas in her liver and spleen shown by the ultrasound. She has very little appetite and just lies in bed all day and she's losing weight. We've drained the liquid from her abdomen twice and it's already swelling up again. We really don't know what to do. Well, at least she was eating again. The bloodwork came back with changed ig, albumine, but negative for fcov. Vet said it must be sepsis. Then her abdomen got larger and larger with ascites, a new test was negative for fcov again. The laboratory said it might be because all the antibodys IN BLOOD are bound to antigen?! Have a rescue kitten that is about 4 month's old with no official diagnosis as of today. 10/28/22 took to emergency. They ended up doing a Thoracic Tap to remove fluid followed by sending the fluids for BODY FLUID ANALYSIS that takes 7 day's to get results. They say that FIP if proven and diagnosed is not curable. I have found one treatment regimen that has been proven to save many cat lives but wonder about an alternative that might be just as effective having the same results. What are your thoughts about Ivermectin Injections in combination with other needed medications necessary on an individual basis (IE, Breathing treatments/Saline or other Vet recommended med's)? Your opinion if any on Ivermectin would be greatly valued and appreciated. This repurposed medication has been proven time and time again to aid in wiping out many virus's to include having been used as a prophylaxis for coronavirus disease in 2019 to ward off the virus as well as being used in some hospitalized patient's that were critically ill from the virus. Once given this repurposed medication the patient's in a matter of hour's was seen to be improving with many going home soon after. Not a fix all but the huge number of lives saved is just astounding. Your input would be greatly appreciated.

@Bamby5211 Thank you for your interesting comment.I would like to hear more about your experience: my email is draddie[at]catvirus.com. I am just back from TSAVA conference in Turkey where I met a vet who is treating FIP with ivermectin (IVM) but unfortunately I didn't get details.
The commenter @elena6684 is correct that GS-441524 pills are the most certain way to get an FIP cure. However, it's not always affordable or available. In absence of GS-441524 then I would use ivermectin pills rather than injection: you need to kill the virus where it replicates most, which is the large intestine, and injection drugs don't always penetrate the gut well.
IVM is toxic to cats in high doses so be very careful. Give vitamin D3 (calcitriol) as well, keeping an eye on blood calcium, again to avoid toxicity (shrimp are rich in D3). Use zinc picolinate (for best intestinal absorption): 1/4 of a Solgar 22mg pill daily per cat. We need a Zn ionophore and I'm not sure if IVM definitely is, so perhaps a pinch of curcumin daily would be useful. We are finding IVM doesn't stop all cats shedding FCoV, but it does reduce virus load. More work needs to be done to work out the optimal protocol.
