I LOVE my DW5600. I got a limited run pastel pink one by chance (my favourite color) and I wear it every single day. I never have to think about it, and it does everything I was using my smartwatch for anyways - time and alarms was really it by the end. And the hour chime helps me keep track of the time too.
truuue, i have my samsung watch face just super simple; green text colour, time, date, battery, and a black background. that's it. it's a cool device but it's way too much at times and I'd like to have it pretty basic so i can ease into it.
you can just dummie-fy any good smartwatch with some extra feature, like daylight saving (even though it shouldn't be a thing) and NTP time and maybe a very very basic fitness tracker
@@capkenwayor just buy a wristwatch. They can be as cheap or expensive as you want them to be. No reason not to buy one and their batteries last for a year. No charging needed. Heck if you have a mechanical watch then you dont need to replace a battery at all

After 2 years of using smart watches, I just went back to my ol' Casio and Seiko watches. Constant notifications and being always reachable was an absolute drag on my mental health. Deleting social media from my phone and getting rid of my smart watch did wonders for my productivity.
I had a really cheap Casio watch it was like £9, but I wore it everyday throughout the entirety of secondary school (5 years) and that thing lived through it and is probably somewhere still ticking away, it’s almost 5 years later now and I’ve just got a g-shock for Christmas, I love it and I forgot how nice it is to just simply have the time on my wrist, and it’ll last for years hopefully
SAME. I have an old Casio watch laying somewhere and I just recently found it. Battery is almost dead, screen is super dim, but it's still going after 13 years.
That’s what I wear now after doing the AW for a couple years. Atomic timekeeping and solar are about as technical as I want to get anymore. It’s refreshing.
I actually bust out my Fitbit that I wore from before the 'demic (and before Google bought FitBit) and I used it as a simple watch and activity tracker to see literally as Wade said, "oh I did more that day than this day." Until I bricked it and now I have a Casio Databank which is almost like a computer from the early 80s *on my wrist* it's nutty.
Holy fuck that thing is a calculator on the wrist. I didn’t know such a thing existed but I should have expected to. I need one for adding funky numbers I’m too lazy to crunch, right there in my wrist.
You know, Dank, you're the second online person ever that's made me buy something. Immediately after I saw this video, I ordered this watch in grey because I've been looking for a dumb smart watch for ages, and I absolutely love this thing. The app is garbage, but the "locate your phone" feature is worth the price of admission by itself. Thank you for the recommendation ♥️♥️♥️
It's nice to see simple rugged watches being appreciated. I've had old school Casio's all my life, including Gshocks. They're super reliable, don't need to be babysat and they usually come in heaps of cool designs (compared to the modern smartwatch which are basically all a flat screen and a strap).
Love my Garmin instinct 2, mine has solar but without it I get about a month of battery life. Simple black and white display, only get messages as notification, fantastic heart rate monitor, rugged, great watch overall
FYI, Casio makes non-smart watches that have daylight savings functionality, such as the more chunky world time model AE1200, which can also be bought on a steel band, except it doesn't pinch. Does occasionally pull an arm hair out though haha
I'm an absolute watch nerd, so seeing someone enjoying an amazing watch like a G-Shock makes me smile like nothing else. And I'm saying this as someone who has two Casios in his main watch box, one of which is a G-Shock. I also recommend the Casio MDV-106 "Duro" to everyone. $50 for an absolute stunner of a watch.
I have this exact model in black. It's the perfect upgrade to the classic gshock square. It's worth the money for the display alone, step counter is a nice plus, and i will agree the app / bluetooth is 90% useless. Being able to use it to change watch faces would have been cool.
I've gotten into watches in a big way the last year or so, have a nice Casio collection and a few Seikos. It's nice to be able to leave the phone at home and still keep track of time. I've always thought that smart watches completely ruin an outfit too, which is part of why I've never bothered with them.
Maybe you should try a Garmin watch, you'll probably like it. I own a fenix 5S myself, and it's just "smart" enough for my usecase: notifications, apps, music playback control, but you still get physical controls. And most importantly, battery life is godlike compared to normal smartwatches: mine is like, 5 years old right now, but I can still get a week average battery life out of it. The peace of mind of not having to charge it everyday alone is worth it, if I'm being honest.
I've done the same - moved from a smartwatch to a simple automatic. My Fossil Gen 5 watch started to crash and bootloop. The battery didn't last a day (I couldn't tell the time after 6pm). Plus, if I wasn't near my phone, it frequently couldn't even tell the correct time; it was more often than not incorrect. I would have preferred if it just said "disconnected from phone" instead of telling the wrong time! I remember waking up one morning and it said 7am, when it was actually 9am. Almost missed work if I didn't look at my phone...
as someone that bought a lot of gshocks and thought he was done with them. You have peaked my interest with this new screen. need to fulfill the chonk collection with a timeless timepiece. Wonder if the classic models will get a variant with that kind of display. It's a shame i didn't get the Gorillaz collab Russel Gshock but was able to get a Noodle classic style casio (DW-5600GRLZN-7). later also both the now now collection one, and my funkiest looking one is the dragonball z gshock (GA-110JDB-1A4).
Once you slap a F-91W on your wrist, it's hard not to be like "Wow...this really does everything I need a watch to do and I literally never have to think about it ever"
I have a G Shock dw5600bb which is a pretty good watch, i like the simpleness of the watch, just a simple black colour, no weird UI, reliable and basically, its good
As someone who never wore watches cause I just never felt the need, Smart Watches seemed like the Thing for me, since they do so much more! It was fun for a while and some of the health tracking things were neat but it just sits on my shelf gathering dust now. Oh well.
2:16 I actually had both knock off one. I used it on work and feel bad if I use 100$ watch just to tell time while having grease or oil on the strap. The lime green one become more more yellowish but still ticking.
For some reason when I saw the title, I thought the lemon lime G-Shock watch was a Gatorade branded watch lol. I should've known it wasn't, considering it had Casio on it.
I had a little fitbit smart watch for about a year or so, before it annoyed me so much, that I went full nuclear option and sent myself back to the stone-age with a nice automatic watch. It tells the time, it doesn't bug me and it doesn't need charging unless I don't wear it for a few days, and even then i just wave it around a bit, and it starts ticking away
I like Casio watches a lot. I use an Apple Watch because it’s handy for keeping track of my blood sugar with my Dexcom, but I wouldn’t use one otherwise.
My Amazfit Bip runs for a month. I never thake them off when bathing or swimming in the ocean. With custom firmware it could switch tracks and show calendar and work as a flashlight (wery useful, at least to find a phone in the dark or other light source)

Can't agree more regarding apps. There's way too much junk produced these days that you know won't be useful in just a few years because the servers will go offline or the app will disappear from existence. In the Android ecosystem, there is at least the chance that it might be archived somewhere so you can sideload the app, but even still... the fewer things you have that need these things, the better in my opinion.
As a g-shock fan, I gotta say, mate you picked the worst g-shock Ui-wise. But the great thing is you can simply ignore all that silly extra functions Casio crammed into the thing and use it as a regular g-shock with an awesome display like you’ve been doing 😂
Crazy thing is, I have been thinking of just getting a dumb phone and something to play music. Maybe an audiobook. I just don't need all this shit on my phone.
never liked smartwatches. had an early boi and it died in like 3 hours i stg. i still want the pepsiman fossil watches. they are so fugly and are like hundreds of thousands of dollars but i WANT THEM. ill prolly settle for the 2001 space tour pepsi watch tbh

Sure smartwatches are cool, but they'll never beat the style and vibe of a device made purely for telling the time

I use a first Gen Moto 360. It's great because it's so old the only notifications that work are alarms and Google maps.
Should go take a look at just one more watch. Jody has a huge backlog of great affordable watch reviews on his channel!
I'd love a watch like this that _wasn't_ so focused on fitness. I want to know the time, and I need it to vibrate when I get a text or call when I'm at work, and nothing else. wristwatches are the kinda thing really that imo should stick for most peoplé, a simple wrist accessory to tell you where you at in the day without having to fish for your phone every time
don't even need something super fancy, or go all pokimans on them
like at most you need 2: a everyday "an watch", and a slightly fancier dress watch, and even the latter is completely optional
it's like the perfect life accessory: simple, practical, adds some touch of colour to one's dress, can be as fancy or unfancy as one wants (wallet allowing), minimum maintenance
