- Cape Town residents are mopping up after two days of inclement weather which caused widespread disruptions and damage, including loss of shelter, localised flooding, fallen trees, electricity outages, and road closures. Lwandle informal settlement near Strand was one of the hardest hit areas.
This breaks my heart. It is so bitterly cold in Cape Town and still raining. Praying for them to get the assistance they need.
Very heartbreaking, hope they get the help they need. I can only imagine how cold it is. 😭
Thank you to all the people that are trying to make their lives a bit more bearable ...
But the south African government can spend billions on interfering in politics overseas.....
This is a wet land
Now is the time for the DA to step and help the flooded areas, it's cold and wet. PLEASE WE COUNT ON YOU!!!!!
Every year the same thing. Next year will be the same and year after that.
They must ask the government they voted for to come and assist... Government always relay on the gift of the givers....
I feel so sorry for them .Cold and wet is so difficult and people are so sick this winter!
But this happens every year and they don't want to move.
The land is not meant for occupation - it is a wetland so no proper natural drainage exists - the water stays above ground when it rains.
Such heartbreaking disaster
I used to live in Gordons Bay and and personally witnessed flooding in this area. Driving off the N2 the whole road was flooded because of a blocked drainage canal and municipal workers were busy clearing the canal . Why don't people put their garbage in the bins provided.? Don't they realise that it is for their own good.
This why you don't just put up shack where you want with out permission. This wasn't issue last year where they come from ?
what about the built up suburbs being flooded , is relocation also a solution ? think before you report
as soon as those 5k are relocated, others will move into the same wetland
This should have happened before election now where is all the big mouths that they said they will assist these poor people sleeping in the water no food no dry clothes that really sad come on Mr President do something about this😢😢😢😢😢
😢😢😢😢😢It's so cold this is SAD 😢😢😢😢
Maybe we need to create our own mini-Venices where we have all these informal settlements built in flood plains. Construct canals and people can commute using boats.
Some are keeping big land that’s not even occupied, our government needs to step up because this people here clearly do not have means to move to safer places.
