  • Cape Town residents are mopping up after two days of inclement weather which caused widespread disruptions and damage, including loss of shelter, localised flooding, fallen trees, electricity outages, and road closures. Lwandle informal settlement near Strand was one of the hardest hit areas.

This breaks my heart. It is so bitterly cold in Cape Town and still raining. Praying for them to get the assistance they need.

They must ask the government they voted for to come and assist... Government always relay on the gift of the givers....

The land is not meant for occupation - it is a wetland so no proper natural drainage exists - the water stays above ground when it rains.

I used to live in Gordons Bay and and personally witnessed flooding in this area. Driving off the N2 the whole road was flooded because of a blocked drainage canal and municipal workers were busy clearing the canal . Why don't people put their garbage in the bins provided.? Don't they realise that it is for their own good.

This why you don't just put up shack where you want with out permission. This wasn't issue last year where they come from ?

Maybe we need to create our own mini-Venices where we have all these informal settlements built in flood plains. Construct canals and people can commute using boats.

Some are keeping big land that’s not even occupied, our government needs to step up because this people here clearly do not have means to move to safer places.
