    The makers of this one combed over all the concept art and script drafts of the first one, all with the mission "what did they TRY to do last time, but couldn't?". And they did all of it.

    "Life has a way of moving you past wants and hopes."
    Fun Fact: Olivia Wilde's futuristic gear was so effective that when she showed up on the set one day as "herself" after 2 month's work, she was stopped by a security official who demanded to see ID.
    Fan Participation Fact: The crowd voices during the disk battle in the beginning of the movie are actually the voices of the audience during the panel for the film at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con. The audience was instructed to stomp and chant to prompts shown on the large video screen, and the sound was recorded by techs from Skywalker Sound.
    Let's Go Fact: When standing over the board game with black and white stones, Quorra mentions to Sam Flynn that she rarely beats Kevin Flynn at it. The board game is, in fact, "Go", a game that is notoriously difficult for computer programs to play well. Unlike chess, where computers are able to beat the world's best human players, when the movie was filmed, the best Go computer programs were only able to manage to reach an intermediate amateur level. This explains why Quorra, being a computer program, would rarely be able to beat Kevin Flynn.

      As a fun update to the last fun fact, computers can now beat world champions at Go. They even published the documentary on CZcams and normally I'm not one for doc's, but it was really good.

    What I love about CLU is that he really isn’t a rogue AI, he’s an AI functioning exactly as envisioned. The problem is that Kevin probably saw programs a bit more human than they actually were. It’s hard not to when they look and sound so human, but psychologically they aren’t. Kevin can change. CLU and even Tron can’t really change. Kevin thought CLU would be able to change and see the beauty of the ISOs, but CLU can only see Kevin now getting in the way of his goals. That isn’t to say CLU is a robot; he clearly feels conflicted and betrayed by Flynn. He legitimately cannot understand why his creator would suddenly get in the way of what he was created for.

    This is one of the only movies I've seen that was worth seeing in 3D on the big screen. They did a great thing where the scenes in the real world were in 2D but the scenes inside the computer were 3D, kinda like how The Wizard Of Oz switched between black & white and color.

    An interesting follow-up to the original. I saw the original in a cinema in 70mm. This film was heavily promoted at Walt Disney World. There was even a monorail train with a Tron: Legacy paint scheme. WDW was also the first place that I played a Tron: Legacy pinball machine.

    Olivia Wilde was also Gozer in "Afterlife" so she's in two of the biggest nostalgia sequels.

    I love this movie. It's one of my favorite go-to flicks.
    I think a large piece of the plot is about Kevin Flynn's hubris and his interactions with Clu. He doesn't consider Clu to be his own being, but just a mirror copy of himself. He never really lets go of this idea. Whereas Clu is behaving like the son who's angry and jealous of "that other creation" (Sam) of his father. That permeates everything he does. Even at the end, he couldn't kill Flynn. He wants his father to acknowledge him and his accomplishments.
    Also, the music is just FANTASTIC. Daft Punk scored the film and actually lobbied hard to get to do so, they were huge fans of first film. They cameo'ed as the DJ's in the End of Line club as well.

    • @adamantyr
      @adamantyr Před rokem

      Also, while it wasn't intentional, the creepiness of Clu ALMOST resembling Flynn made him so much better of a villain.
      In software visual design, this is called "the uncanny valley". Basically, the closer something resembles a real life object, the typical human being will react more negatively to it. (Creating the "valley" on a chart tracking acceptance of the image.) The theory is that human beings have learned to be wary of anything that looks close to something but is off a bit; like the eyes of a lion peering through a normal set of bushes.
      That said, I wish Disney would redo the shots with the real Kevin Flynn with some better deep fake tech; not likely to happen at this point.

    • @adamantyr
      @adamantyr Před rokem

      Final comment, promise. :D
      One other aspect is that for Kevin Flynn, while he aged in our world timeframe, on the Grid he experienced a far greater passage of time. I did the math once and he more or less had 1,000 years of relative time. It's no wonder he looked at Sam like he was seeing a ghost. It also explains why his flashback memories of being with Sam on the beach appear like digital recordings; he's lost so much of himself. He'd probably have never been able to adjust to the real world again.

    So glad to see another Tron enthusiast. I got into it because of the 2010 movie, but definitely a fan of the whole franchise. Hope you get a chance to check out "Tron: Uprising" cartoon series that does a cool job bridging the shows.

    I absolutely love this movie, I pull out the DVD at least once a year! I'd say the strongest parts are the smart mixing of the practical and visual effects, the overall aesthetic, and ofcourse the stellar soundtrack by Daft Punk. But even from a story perspective it definitely fits as a sequel to Flynn's character😍

    An unappreciated film, IMO. The soundtrack is almost too familiar to me because it is perfect for playing during many different RP games.
    For more than 5 years, my RP crew played a 61st-century gang of fugitives who discover the secret of a race of holo-shifting malignant intergalactic time-cops having replaced key officials in the imperial theocracy which rules over Earth. We were sent, and then re-sent, to a city of the undead and had to escape by the skin of our teeth each time. This movie's soundtrack was playing for a good portion of all of it.
    Thanks for the reactions! I loved watching this

    Even though i still adore the concepts in this movie, i feel the 2008 teaser trailer version is what they should have utilised to grade the atmospheric designs & effects to finalise this movie. The 2 min teaser was more like a prologue footage with scenes never featured in this movie. So in my head canon the footage is probably an event during CLU's tyranny to genocide the ISOs before Sam arrives....its just the visual designs were much different, such as CLU was green but for the movie he's Orange.

    I really enjoyed this movie because it sets up new and exciting ideas about the nature of reality and the meaning of what makes a human being. It's great that it calls back to the original film with improved versions of the cyber world and then destroys it in the end to possibly creating one that would look more like the ours. I just wish that it continued.
    I would like to recommend Person of Interest if you're interested in AI. The show revolves around the creation of one and the moral quandaries associated with it. It's a great show. You don't even have to react to it, just watch it because it's damned good 🙂

    3:26 okay, so, you had to cut it for copyright, but the arcade jukebox had "Separate Ways" by Journey playing. "Only Solutions" by Journey played in the credits of Tron 1. If it weren't for copyright cops, we all could have sung along with a bouncing ball over the lyrics with tears of joy gushing down our faces. But no, we don't live in that world, do we?

    The Tron Franchise can't catch a break as the first film was a flop, but gained a cult audience, second film was a flop, but gained a cult audience, there was even a short lived animated series called Tron Uprising that never had the chance it deserved.

      The standards you hold for the substance in a film, is very much individual convoluted expectations. Either it tingles your psyche sensation or it doesn't. Like many regard Godfather movies collectively agreed substance of greatness......i don't see any such. Man made fictions is bound to have flaws, its basically how much flaws you're actually picking on to measure a fiction. But what do i know.

    "The flawed creation oof a flawed creator". The de-aging is the only bad thing in this film (so curious, Marvel gets it right, everyone else e.g. star wars gets it wrong). Loved this & the original, curious what Tron: Ares will be like.
