- Despite the last minute change of plan for this VHS review, I really enjoyed it, despite not having as much to say as I thought I would. Work on RRT Season 3 is still progressing at a good pace, and the 2nd part of my Crash Bandicoot gameplay should hopefully be happening soon. I hope you all enjoy my 3rd Fireman Sam VHS review and tomorrow's live stream in the meantime.

Great fires of London!
Is That Sam Always Says In The Episodes
I love your vhs review series and this one
I like season 5. It was one of the best seasons of all time. I used to watch these episodes on my TV.
Awesome review! Season 5 is my favourite Fireman Sam season as well! I used to have this release on carry case along with To The Rescue as a little kid.
Cool. And thank you.
Is a little red tractor rip off
@@FelixJaymz02 What is?
@GaryLarkins678 I like the original one, but not the reboot.
@GaryLarkins678 Isn’t it obvious, Ben.
43:27 In the widescreen version, there's a goof. Even though Penny gets into Jupiter, Station Officer Steele was in it when they arrive.
Great Fires Of London!
9:31 The scene with Woolly in the mud was filmed on January 8th 2004
DAMMIT NORMAN PRICE!!!!
Here, if you’re wondering what sams surname is, its actually Sam Jones, fireman Sam’s real name is Sam jones
I know that now.
20:19 I understand the firefighters of Pontypandy wearing tracksuits in the training room but the fact they are still wearing their boots is odd seeing as usually that would be wearing trainers in the workout room
7:28 - Finally! The main event!
This will also be the first season to have the characters Voiced by individual voice actors rather than having all the characters voiced by one person
That one person would be old John Alderton, I'm pretty sure.
@@peelp5028Correct
The animation really reminds me of Bob the Builder and Rubbadubbers! Even thought it isn't animated by Hot Animation. Instead, it's Siriol Productions.
Why Is Look Different Then Bumper Animation Made From 1987 To 1994
5:46 - Advert for Thomas and Friends - Calling All Engines. Available on VHS and DVD!
Apparently the people who worked on season 5 of Fireman Sam wanted to bring back Joshua Jones using the same style of models they were using in season 5 now imagine if that did come into fermission and how amazing the show would have looked
That would’ve been fantastic too I’m sure.
@@trainlover16 yeah and I also wonder if the characters would also gain slight Attire redesigns like the characters from Fireman Sam did
@@williampulfer-melville8536 I definitely could’ve seen that.
@@trainlover16 speaking of which I actually do prefer seasons 1 to 4 Atires for Norman Sarah and James where you know Norman Woar a grey shirt with a green knitted pullover vest with green jeans with patches on the knees and white trainers and Sarah wore a long sleeved pink shirt with dark pink overalls with white trainers and James woar adult blue jumper with the letter j on the front of it with blue jeans and blue trainers I just prefer those looks not sure why they decided to change the colour of James' clothes to Green in CGI as I am not keen on the fact they made him wear a green hoodie with shorts maybe I'm being a bit too nitpicky
@@trainlover16I’m neutral to fireman Sam now so i am.
23:49 I still prefer Venus' look from the original series because at least that looks like a real fire tender whereas Venus in season 5 onwards is literally a Mini Cooper that's been modified into a water carrying truck
35:28 I've just realised that Sam and Mike share the exact same face design I can't unsee it now
Fun fact Mike's puppet with used in the first episode of season 5 to represent a news reporter that was filming Sam's rescue of Norman at Pontypandy Mountain but his face was blocked with the camera he was holding so no one would be able to recognise him not only that but they gave him a brown fedora as well so no one would be able to recognise him by the hair either
Ah ok.
@@trainlover16 yeah that's one way of using a model for a character that hasn't been introduced yet
I believe Mandy is actually one of the first child characters in a British animated children's show to be from an interracial family seeing as Helen is revealed to be of Jamaican descent in one episode of season 5 and Mike being white I just thought that was pretty cool
Fit For Nothing Was Also Shown On The UK HIT Favourites DVD Here Comes Spring!
42:43 That shot was repeated in The Big Freeze except it's day time in that episode.
17:02 oh yes and in season 5 much like the first four seasons when Norman's mischief is to blame for the emergency not only is he given a severe talking to but is also made to do chores to teach him some kind of lesson
But in the CGI series, he’s a whiny hell of a boy who always wants to forcefully get what he wants and he also just gets let off with a warning when he immediately forgets about the next episode. They should’ve made him do chores like do the dishes or clean Jupiter.
Dammit Norman!
36:25 They DID do that. The VHS just had a problem.
Oh right.
Unbelievable I Wasn’t Expecting This VHS
I quite like Fireman Sam Season 5 it’s one of my favourite seasons and I quite like this VHS Amazing VHS Review
It's my favourite, and thank you.
@@trainlover16 Also if your wondering what Sam’s Surname is that you mentioned in this it’s called Samuel Sam Jones
@@mrgeorge1195 Oh yeah, I remember now. Thank you.
@@trainlover16 Your Welcome
Fireman Sam Series 5 is the best!👍
The Wiggles trailer on the original 2005 DVD release uses Rock-a-Bye Your Bear instead of Get Ready to Wiggle.
Great Fires of London!
15:05 Little Red Tractor did it as well.
I know.
47:55 Him in the CGI series Woolly is revealed to actually be a female sheep and is a mother of a lamb named Lambykins
Further evidence that the CGI series isn’t canon to Seasons 1 to 5.
54:23 yes we find out that his full name is Fireman Sam Jones in the CGI series which I think maybe a reference to Joshua Jones another show that bumper films made
Excellent Review As Always TrainLover.
Thank you so much Stan.
50:54 I'm glad you agree with me that Tom was being a bit unfair to assume that Norman littered that lemonade bottle on purpose seeing as he is a grown-up so should known better them to jump to conclusions
50:37 Tom should have known better than to assume Norman littered the empty lemonade bottle on purpose as it was only an accident
11:13 this would also occur in CGI with the mechanic Joe saying this "that Norman Price is such a" and then we cut to Charlie's fishing boat with the horn going off like Joe was about to say little shit
Lol, I had no idea of that.
@@trainlover16 yeah
Great Fires Of London
7:04 cable cars that's the only thing mentioned in this promo that we never got to see Bob and his team build in project build it
Great balls of fire!
I find it really odd how in season 5 Mike speaks with a west country accent but in the CGI series he speaks with a Northern English accent with one episode even stating that he was born in Yorkshire
That is very strange.
@@trainlover16 I agree especially because the show itself takes place in Wales
Fun Fact: The stop-motion animation in Fireman Sam series 5 was provided by Siriol Productions (the exact Welsh animation studio that did the British 1980s SuperTed cartoon and Hilltop Hospital).
Interesting.
@@trainlover16and not just those 3 shows, they also provided the 2D animation for The Little Engine That Could (1991).
@@jordanhowell7798 I know. I’ll hopefully be reviewing that this year too.
@@trainlover16 indeed you are, I'm looking forward to that review.
@@jordanhowell7798 Me too.
53:27 I will say I do like the inclusion of the turntable Jupiter stands on inside the fire station's garage with them spinning him around towards the door before the rescue starts
Me too.
36:49 I like how in season 5 they ended up reusing a few with the props from not just Fireman Sam but some of Bumper films' other shows like for example the fridge in Dylis' shop for example is the same fridge that was used for Ambrose's shop in Starhill ponies the very last show that Bumper films made before their bankruptcy
23:35 Especially in stage shows.
52:38 I think this is the first time we've actually seen the braces that firefighters wear to keep the waterproof trousers up
Interesting.
@@trainlover16fireman Sam was aired on CBeebies and milkshake.
Now who needs the Fire Service?
Barn fire at Pandylane Farm. Fire at Bella's Cafe. Telegraph pole down on Newtown Road. Woman trapped on lift at department store. It's Fireman Sam. He's in trouble!
Man I wish they cats that catchphrase in the series in season 5 not sure why they got rid of it it's such an iconic catchphrase
@@williampulfer-melville8536 Could not agree more.
6:54 this promo describe Benny as a new character even though he was technically introduced in snowed under a year prior
Oh yeah, did the people who edited that promo even do their research?
@@trainlover16 I guess not either that or they thought most of the kids may not have seen that film
24:56 TIMBER!!!
51:05 oh come on Penny Norman just said you look nice today there's no need to get your knickers in a twist
I believe the reason why they stopped having Trevor take on the role of auxiliary fireman from the start of season 5 may have had something to do with the fact that auxiliary fireman are not a thing anymore that's all they thought that kids may of found it confusing that in some episodes is a fireman and inother episodes he's the bus driver
Agreed. Though I think auxiliary firemen and on call firemen are the same thing. I keep hearing this advert on Soundcloud for on call firefighter recruitment.
@@trainlover16 cool and if that's the case they should have had Trevor be that
Mandy: Oh no he’s stealing the fruit
James: We’d better call the police
Mandy: No need for that my uncle is a police officer you know
PC Plum or PC Malcom
Good Review, Friend.
Thank you.
30:48 yes Trevor may of explained that he was helping Dilys deliver the groceries to her customers but I think Trevor should have explained why he was wearing a hooded jacket as it does look very suspicious that he was wearing a hooded jacket wild getting some of the fruit and vegetables from the front of the shop
Agreed.
@@trainlover16 like it's not that hard to say that he felt cold and thats why he was wearing a hooded jacket
@@williampulfer-melville8536 Yes.
I will give season 5 this when casting the characters I thought it was called that they got John Sparks to voice all the male characters seeing as Sparks himself is actually Welsh and season 5 is definitely A prime example of showing that he can do better things then just being the narrator in Peppa Pig that and the fact he was the voice of both the farmer and Bitzer in Shaun the Sheep
I had this release on DVD and it was my childhood
(I actually have a video showing off my VHS collection now)
5:50 as James A Williams said once before it's weird hearing Tim Witenall narate anything Thomas related way before being a cast member in the CGI series
Nice review, mate. BTW, it was revealed in the CGI series that Sam's surname is Jones.
Mr George already reminded me, but thank you.
@@trainlover16 Okay, you're welcome 😉
18:17 still have no idea why the CGI series decided to get rid of Sam's hobby of inventing things
I've noticed that season 5 is the only season the Fireman Sam where Sarah and James don't have Welsh accents as they just have English ones in season 5 maybe it was because they were sharing the same voice actress as Mandy in season 5 Joanna Ruiz and she probably didn't want to do a Welsh accent for them just in case it sounded way too similar to Mandy that's just my theory
Didn’t actually notice that until now.
@@trainlover16 I just thought that was interesting
Actually, in Season 5, Mandy was voiced by Sarah Hadland. My theory is that Joanna Ruiz probably can’t do a Welsh accent.
@@Gothenburg32 Perfect understandable. That would also explain why Season 5 Sarah and James don’t have Welsh accents.
@@trainlover16 Yeah, just like Sammy Clark’s theory on why Alec Baldwin never gave Donald, Douglas and Duncan Scottish accents in Seasons 5 and 6 of Thomas & Friends is because he probably can’t do a Scottish accent.
51:11 I know Elvis does have the hots for Penny in the original series
41:15 it certainly didn't stop them from doing the fire in stop-motion back in seasons 1 and 4 with the smoke being hand drawn on a clear plastic sheet
I was only 1 when cbeebies stopped airing fireman sam
18:38 another thing I don't like what the CGI series is that they got rid of the text such as the words written on Dylis' shop and Bella's Cafe like why did they do that did they do it just so that English writing doesn't appear in any foreign versions of the show
32:21 I agree and sure we do learn that it's actually pasta sauce but still it is still morbid because of how much it looks like Blood
I’ve forgotten about that
Do you remember watching it as a kid now?
@@trainlover16 I remembered that I just forgotten it cause I haven’t awhile that’s why
@@trainlover16 this does not mean that I don’t remembered watching it
@@brandonharristsw7516 Ah alright.
@@trainlover16 ok now you understand
1:35 I personally grew up with the original series thanks to the VHS tapes that my mum had and season 5 was new to me when that started airing on ABC Kids
15:05 bob the builder use to do that
51:11 oh he definitely does have the hots for Ellie Phillips in the CGI series no I'm not joking as he even said he wasn't going to wash his jacket again after she touched him on the shoulder
I remember, having fireman Sam saves the day on dvd but not on VHS I’m afraid & they actually only did from series 1-3 of the original fireman Sam & the talking mouths of that show were from series 4-5 of fireman Sam as I binge watch all on BBC iPlayer on my old iPad last year & in 2022.
That’s Such A RARE VHS
Now Who Needs The Fire Service!!!
36:53 I wonder what happened to Dusty after season 5 as we never saw him again after season 5
Who knows? Maybe he ate too much chocolate and has passed.
I remember Fireman Sam.
Always like the OG series more season 5 is okay tho
54:42 LOL Did somebody at HiT forgot to put the Thomas, Barney and Pingu trailers at the end or did they not forgot
29:53 I’m not gonna lie, Elvis really does look like elvis Preisley
Indeed.
I've noticed that Sam drives Jupiter in all the episodes of season 5
I've noticed that in season 5 that Rosa appears to be a lot fatter than she was in seasons 1 to 4
What's opinion on the CGI series? I've recently been thinking of giving the CGI series it's last chance for series 16 and if it turns out to be worse than seasons 13 - 15 then I will just stick with the stop motion series and the earlier seasons of the CGI series or just stop watching the CGI series altogether.
Seasons 6 to 9 are ok, but 10 and beyond and terrible.
@@trainlover16 Why? Because of Norman, the new fire station or Bella mentioning everything about pizza?
It’s been on The 20 percent Volume through the whole VHS Review
I find it rather odd that in season 5 they pretty much introduced the Flood family out of nowhere with no introductory episode to where they came from same goes with Tom and the mountain rescue centre
Yeah
Imagine if they did a stop motion special like with "Postman Pat and the Greendale Rocket" to kick off Season 5 which explains all of the changes
The main plot could be the mountain rescue centre being built
@@jacobjcb8883 yeah i wish they did that for contex
I was not keen on season 5's models like I wasn't keen on how the characters had silicone hair when in the previous season they actually used what looks like real hair also the characters are less expressionble in season 5 because of the style of models they used since you know in season 5 the characters were given moving lips so that they mouths move when they talk but this also makes the characters in season 5 unable to emote any mouth expressions other than a smile which I think is a downgrade compared to seasons 1 to 4 as the characters definitely expressionble mouths in the previous seasons
Understandable.
30:08 oh yes Mandy you get your dad it's not like something you want to call the police about then again at this point in time there are no police in Pontypandy
Fireman Sam’s surname is Jones
@@bradleyfinn3452 I know now.
26:53 well the photographer being a photographer as well as his beard might of reminded you of Skip a flamboyant photographer and editor of Hi Magazine from Little Red Tractor
You're right, he does look similar to Skip Shuttle
@@jacobjcb8883 thanks
Norman using woolly to play tricks naughty 👿 boy 👦
22:28 to be honest I think Norman should have been told off for being in the fire station without permission and causing trouble for Elvis so yeah I don't think Penny should have told him off for using Sam's treadmill
hey I know we haven't spoken for a while but What's your next VHS Review
I don’t actually know. I’m actually considering giving my VHS reviews a break if I can’t think of a replacement for my Jimbo VHS review soon.
@Trainlover 16 Fireman Sam’s last name is Jones
9:42 Norman should have said that he tripped over and fell in a muddy puddle that seems more believable
28:26 also since when was Sam's inventung shed at the back of the fire station wasn't it in his back garden
What happened to your VHS review on Thomas and the Magic Railroad
Mattel took it down, the dicks.
@@trainlover16 yeah the F***wits
@@trainlover16 put my reaction to Mattel for taking all the Thomas videos down
25:39 I wonder why we never got to see the face of that photographer right there am I wonder what it looks like because you know they wouldn't make a puppet for him and not complete his face
I wonder that too.
@@trainlover16 it just seems like an odd thing to do create a puppet for a character and then not show the face
Trainlover16 do you like the Thomas episode thomas percy and the dragon
I’m meh towards it.
28:07 I personally like hard cuts into episodes after Title cards
Me too TBH.
@@trainlover16 it just gives some suspense
@@williampulfer-melville8536 I see what you mean.
@@trainlover16 yeah
@@trainlover16 Benny Was Voiced By Horrid Henry’s Brother (Perfect Peter)!
39:51 see this is why you shouldn't have newspaper on the arm of the armchair with the electric heater right next to it
38:38 the CGI series shouldn't of redesigned Dylis' shop from a general store to a convenience store just because the original series and season 5 featured product placement as James a William said what you really should do is feature either fictional brands like what they did with some of the products in seasons 1 and 4 or just have them replaced with blank shapes on the packaging
30:50 that might be true but why was Trevor wearing a hooded jacket as well
I find it really weird that Nurse Helen Flood and Mike Flood speak with Northern accents when Mandy herself speaks with a Welsh accent it doesn't really make much sense because you know children usually do pick up on an accent from their parents I mean that's why my natural voice is considered a mix between English and Australian because of my mum being from England and my dad being Australian so my accent isn't really a pure Australian accent despite being Australian because I picked up on certain words and dialect from both my mother and my grandparents who i used to stay with quite a lot when my parents were busy
Will you try to get to the rescue vhs aswell.
Don't know.
Not to mention, the action stations vhs is rare aswell, fun fact: that one came in two tapes in one case, because there is 12 episodes on the dvd so they split the 12 in half into 2 tapes.
@@alfiethenostalgiaboy2007 Cool. I’ll think about review that.
