Pedestrian Overpass anime background artwork digital painting

Quick and lazy paint over photo to achieve anime style background art. Spent 1 hours on this, but the masking took nearly 50% of my time. So actual painting is only about 30 minutes. The original photo is in my pixiv if you want to paint over this piece as well.

The godrays is such a brilliant trick! I always could tell anime backgrounds were derivative of photographs but the techniques you use are simple and clever. Finding and watching your content its great to see the workflow to take a photograph to a dreamy ethereal edit of the real thing. Can't wait to try it myself.
