These companies should be penalized. They charge exorbitant amount food charges n on top of that ask people to pay tips. Typical baniya mindset. They just get rich off the poor.

They charge that much so that they can deliver things at customer's comfort zone.,they are already in losses,even delivery people are not making good money now days,if they start charging less,then they will either pay the delivery valet less,or start laying off people,and even worse shut down their business.
Running a business and especially start ups are not easy in India,most of them are running in losses.
If you have solutions,then that would be appreciated.
Remember ,you have to pay for the privileges,there is no free lunch.

"Partners?" Nonsense it's just a term to please them. But they are being exploited quite like slaves, yes slaves. I have been a retail employee it's quite like that you are expected to work even after your work hours deal with angry customer but u cannot respond to them the way they do especially those who think the employees slaves and they are entitled to treat them like that.
The government should bring such a law which will provide fixed income, job security and freedom.

I feel the pain too. I am tanned, ride for 10 hours a day, don't even take leaves to fulfill my commitments. The worst part is delivering to the apartments. Not the customers but the securities and the managements of the apartments and residential complexes. Even though the exit is nearby, securities ask us to take the longer routes for us to exit the building. They won't even treat us with respect and will show their suptemacy to us.

I feel bad for them. Thats why whenever they come I offer water and speak to them politely. that is the least that I can do. I urge all the gig workers to vote for the INDIA alliance.

Harsh reality of gig worker which giving something to economy . It's likes a slavery for employee
Its such a shame that sensible people like the ones interviewed don’t get respectable jobs & are exploited to this extent.
A lot of us are privileged to sit in our house & enjoy almost free delivery rates, which hurts the delivery agents more than we can imagine.
At the very least, we can be kind, offer them water and tip them well as they are heavily underpaid.
Wish govt. pays attention & finds a proper long term solution.
Free delivery rate does not mean that delivery is actually free.. Because swiggy charges about 21% more from us, than the rate that is charged for the same food at the hotel. Example.. 1 chapatti, hotel rate is Rs. 14, swiggy rate is Rs. 17.
Seeing. A zomato ad on this is cringe.
Overpopulation is the problem in india, if you dont want to do the job there are thousands there to replace you at a lower wage.
Deleivery partner are expecting tips on top charges paid to apps.
Form what i have observed is most of them have working for two organisation like rapido and swiggy
Providing better wages should be responsibility of companies. Don't expect it from customer.
But what are people expecting by joining as delivery person? Like 5 star treatment? That you dont get anywhere in India as labour law is shit

Great coverage even though it's one sided. What would have made it better is if Quint had interviewed those delivery partners who have benefited from the gig economy. Layering it with a comparison of gig workers in US, UK, and other South-East Asian countries would have been a cherry on top. That would really shed light on the real state of gig economy of India.

It's their own employers/parent companies that need to show them more respect and do more for them - which they don't ofc...
So, I feel this type of stuff in the media - either print or digital - loses it's value ultimately...because no one's listening....
And also, some of these cab drivers, delivery riders etc - are extremely rude and unruly, often breaking the law themselves...
Are we supposed to show sympathy for them too??!!
especially auto and cab drivers of karanataka, they act like goon and even beat up poor rapido, ola , uber drivers. Are we suppose to show sympathy to them. Better to learn how to behave and talk nicely. More often, people will be nice to you
@@veerbhadauria Yes, I've faced such behaviour both up north here as well as in places like Mumbai and Bangalore, so I know what you mean.
If your msg at the end was meant for me and other common folk like me, who hail these services - I can assure you that 99% of the bad behaviour received by us is despite our good or even normal behaviour to these people. This is not some tit for tat we're getting....
But if your msg was directed at these cabwallahs and other such service providers - then yes, it makes a lot of sense and I agree 100%...
these companies are barely profitable, how would they even support gig workers.
1. Demand and supply will determine how much each Gig worker gets paid. If unemployment in India is high, people will end up as gig workers to make ends meet.
2. Dont like it? Dont do it. You are not forced to.
3. The "haves" should tip on their own to the "have nots".
4. If this is a exploitative scheme to make unlimited profits, then other corporates should also be attracted to disrupt the duopoly right? Wrong. It takes incredible amount of efforts to setup such delivery apps.
Upshot of this is that India continues to be poor due to lack of vision in Government as well as high population and no natural resource to support....IMO these apps atleast provide a livelihood to few.
Both companies are over 1000 crore loss
The Code on Social Security 2020 is a landmark legislation aiming to elevate the rights of gig workers in India. Chapter 9 of the Code exclusively provides schemes and other significant aspects for gig workers and platform workers. Under Chapter 12 of the code, Every company is bound to adhere to the provisions of the code and incase of non-performance, the same company shall be prosecuted. Hope to see gig workers enjoying the benefit of such legislation soon.
These jobs should be mainly driven by college students part time or for a few years.
It's frustrating for 30 yr old to older ones driving these jobs. That apart it's a societal thing and about getting respect. If attitudes are good, nothing can depress a person

Its a shame actually the platform keeps all the major mark up on profit, what I normally used to pay 120rs I pay 225 to 250 rs on swiggy and the app keeps asking for tip why not pay the delivery rep who actually does the job. That is why I deleted these apps I only install and use them only in case of emergency 😅 these platforms are not for those who spend responsibly
If they will work for these companies and us.. then we n the company will definitely suffer , we must have respect for all.

Thanks to my father, I have worked only for 3 months in 52 years.. I have also inherited his houses and properties..
Now some people will come and ask for fixed income and PF facilities for these gig workers. 😅 This is not how Gig economy works.

One more thing obviously the delivery partners as in employees or the customers won't always be happy because it's the company's back end and middle end team as well the owners who would be actually making money . Now the external people who make money are the stock market investors and the angel investors or VCs who have invested into the company.
Definitely there will always be one side who would be un happy.
Bro simply they are earning around 15k monthly after deducting fuel and other expenses and this job can't be part-time if you have to earn 15k monthly... you have to work around daily 10 Hr to get that 15k

Also ask Amazon delivery people for unnecessarily bothering customers! They cancel customer refused delivery😂😂😂 so it's not that they are very hard working! Mostly may be but I as a customer will definitely give water if they behave like a workers only. They often don't! My issue is with Amazon delivery

These guys make around 1500-2000 per day so it's hard work but the money is very good. Plus no need for education much.

@@fictionindianspaceprogram-222 my driver works for Zomato part time after duty hours. He makes around 350-400 a day for working from 6pm-9pm.
I think it's safe to assume these guys make 1500 if they work 8-9 hrs a day. Tips are separate.
