Southend Pier Fire - Oct 9th 2005

Some clips from the news channels inc Sky & ITV, showing the fire that happenned during the late hours of 9th October 2005 whilst I was safely tucked up in bed oblivious to it all. The format is widescreen. lookout for the Corporation Jetty - since sadly demolished, also a view of the 'concrete deco' brutalist masterpiece, Esplanade House!

Scum bags have set it on fire many times. The worst was when they destroyed the bowling ally which was the best around, still today. Do the council care? Of course not.

The council should be releived of ownership of the pier.Successive councils have rejected private enterprise proposals to make the pier famous once again. Let it go Councilor, we cannot WAITE for it to rot or catch fire again while in your hands. You have had your chance and blew it.

6 years on and the pier still is not fixed, its still needs work doing.

"watch the pub burn to the ground"?????????? Do these media people not check the script before they say it....ground???? I remember visiting Southend when it was cut in two by a boat which didn't notice it was there......I remember visiting as a child....it NEEDS to be put right. :-)

They probably meant the ground on the pier because most of the stuff that was damaged was the structure on top of whatever held the pier up

the council are a bunch of muppets .... its been 6 years and the pier is still rotting while the 9 year old landslide opposite the pier is still covering the pavement.
