    I am repairing my 2006 Saturn Vue which only has 150K miles. I intend to drive this for many years after I get it back on the road. I have done a few things different. For one, I am using a 5/8-11 UNC grade 8 bolt with a self locking nut. I want the nut to be accessible in case I should ever need to drop the cradle. The nylon insert in the nut will not stand up to the temperature of welding it in place plus these should only be used once ( I design stuff for the Navy). I incorporated an access hole for the nut. the access hole will have a cover plate with gaskets and retaining screws to prevent entry of water.

    Thank you for the video. I've spray the area with a hot wax/oil mix. If that doesn't work to stop the rust, it's good to know I can use this backup repair.

    I wish these were made as a replacement set like the various frame repairs for Jeep’s are. Same with the trailing arm mounts that rust through. My 2007 has rust in both subframe boxes and my 2005 has rusted through its trailing arm mounts.

      I have a 2006 Saturn Vue with the engine cradle body mount rust issue that you have in this video. If I was to bring you my Saturn Vue could you repair it? If so what would be the approximate cost of the repair on both front mounts?

    • @pistonring8
      @pistonring8  Před 2 lety +2

      @@ronaldreed4347 Sure! We've got Saturns here from Syracuse, Maine and North Carolina... Since they all rust slightly differently, the repair cost depends on the amount of damage that needs to be repaired. We'd have to get a good look at it to make an accurate determination on what it would cost to fix it.

    I plan to try this repair soon. Do you use a certain strength grade or type of bolt for the replacement sub-frame mounting bolts? Is there anything special about the nut you use? Many thanks for the helpful video. You inspired me to keep my 2006 on the road longer... only has 136k miles on it.

    • @pistonring8
      @pistonring8  Před 3 lety

      Our local hardware store sells grade 8 bolts by the pound... We usually have at least a dozen or so laying around to use as pickup truck bed bolts on restorations. So that's what we normally use. If you're a novice welder, flange nuts will give you more surface to weld to, with less risk of warping the threads. Hope this helps!!

    • @pistonring8

      No. They all rust slightly different. Some pieces will be larger on severely rusted versions. Smaller on less rusted vehicles. We only cut out the rusted areas.
