Gotta say that the HD-2D visuals is probably my favorite graphical aesthetic we have in video games right now. Really wish we got to see a lot more of it and not just for RPGs

Also would like to say. Not as hard starting out , easyer to obtaine moeny and there is a speed fuction to make the grind bearable. Also , the characyers are a lot more customizable and almost no one feels useless. you can also over power your characters in many ways. theres a lot of guides that show you how.
Great review, Vic. I’ve always had a warm spot for EP as I “grew up” watching the show and all its iterations and updates. Always glad to see another review from you and am super stoked for another Octopath - more so after this review!

One of the coolest things I did was breaking an NPC with Temenos to get a rare item…
13 or 14 shields. Using the right skills, subjobs and strategies and I did that way early. Took me at least 10 or so tries to figure it out, but the feeling of defeating this one was elating! :D
Have you checked out or heard of *_Chained Echoes?_* I hear that's another really great JRPG; released a while ago, but still recent.

I'm dying for Square to do this treatment with the original Final Fantasy games it would be remarkable.

Now that I have had sometime with the OLED - I can say there’s no better way to play either of the Octopath games. To think it’s only March and we got this now and Advance Wars in a few weeks - Switch is yet again running away with it when it comes to RPGs 🎉🎉 - i love this game too btw #PlayForever
Are you going to be reviewing Resident Evil 8: Village VR for the PSVR2 by any chance? I was absolutely blown away by the 5 mistress gathering in-game VR cut scene where you wake up to that dancing Tim burton-esque marionette puppet and that monstrous cackling Ogre. Impressive stuff!
Seeing them in stereoscopic 3D and in full scale, that close, had my jaw hitting the floor. Sure, the VR version has been compromised in terms of resolution and graphics(as expected), but the level of immersion, intensity, wow factor and enjoyment it offers greatly surpasses playing it on a flat screen.
Picked this one up on launch, haven’t had a chance to dive into yet. Awesome review as always.

the true spirit of the game can only be experienced with the japanese voices, I would say. Not that is better, just a different flavor.
sometimes the real meaning of a message is lost when translated to a different language tho. the same happens with voice acting in videogames, I've noticed.

Incredible game and brilliantly done! I didn't like the first one but LOVE this one.
I had a love-hate relationship with the first one... addictive battles but found the story (stories) and dialog for the most part cheesy and lame. Was expecting an epic story weaving separate characters together like ff3 and was severely disappointed on that end. Your comment has me intrigued now
@@nonlinearcarp4749 The second game does improve a lot on the first, but if you're hoping to find 8 different stories that seamlessly mesh together to form one beautiful tapestry of completeness, you won't find that here. It does everything the first game did but better, including (imo) stories, but they still don't really intersect to form one cohesive whole.
So if that's what you were hoping one of the big changes was, I'm afraid I have to disappoint you there. The addictive battling and gameplay is still ever-present and I daresay stronger than before. As previously mentioned, this one improves on almost everything the first game did. Except bringing all the stories together. If that's what you wanted the most, I would suggest buying with caution or checking out a let's play or something before you commit to purchase. It is a full price game after all.

I didn't like the first game, because I'm not a fan of bite-sized little stories.. What I want from an RPG is an epic tale from start to finish, if you know what I mean. So, from people who played it, how is the story unfolding in this game, is there an interesting overarching story in there or is it just about each individuals and their little personnal quests?
I enjoyed the first one but did not finish it. Kind of got annoyed doing the individual storyline quests that weren't really connected.
All 8 story connect if u finish the end game boss story.... Which 90% of players never get to it n start saying it doesnt connect lol.

The book tressa got from is same guy that help alfyn. Which basically how they got where they are.
The guy is also Kid Father. the 13th god daughter (leblanc) chasing around looking for kid for his sacrifice to revived the 13th god. Leblanc also disguise her self as headmaster assistant in Cyrus story to look for some book man idk forgot. Basically all story was connected and why the reason why all 8 travel together i guess. Just finish the final boss quest n u understand lol

It looks like a great game; great for a JRPG at least, but I really "hate" the JRPG combat style. By this I mean standard turn-based, non-positional combat. Why can't they add combat speed or even positional aspects to these types of games?
The lack of that sort of aspect (along with some other mechanics, mechanics I saw covered in a recent CZcams video about JRPGs, and why *_Chained Echoes_* fixes them, and why its a great game) makes these games less skill-based and more grind-based. It can still be enjoyable, but not necessarily as rewarding or enjoyable for someone who has played many of these type of games before.
Too many good games and we're not even a quarter of the year in. Can't keep up, aaahhhh!

I prefer trpgs, so Triangle Strategy was my favourite of the bunch, but this is the best of the more party-based hd-2d releases imo

Hell yeah! So spoiled for games. Chained echoes, this, sea of stars soon. Plus so many others. Steam deck has also added to my renewed love of games.
