  • Is anything more quintessentially New England than an heirloom apple orchard? In this season one segment from “Weekends with Yankee” (episode 105), we’re at Scott Farm Orchard in the picturesque Connecticut River Valley town of Dummerston, Vermont. Notable for being the filming location of "Cider House Rules" and the former residence of author Rudyard Kipling, the orchard is a haven for apple enthusiasts. Amy and Richard join self-proclaimed apple curator Ezekiel Goodband to learn about the varieties of apples, how to taste for ripeness, and the process behind the best cider. But beyond exquisite quality and flavor, we learn about the history and traditions of the farm and its cultural significance to the region, which could be the ripest lesson of all.
