- F&W's Justin Chapple reveals a foolproof way to line a round cake pan perfectly-every single time.
Instead of relying on the guesswork of cutting the parchment paper based on the size of the pan, this Mad Genius Tip is clever. Fold the paper in half then make another fold to create a rectangle. Then fold the paper into a triangle and then another triangle, until it's shaped like a necktie. Align the triangle where it begins in the center, and cut off the edges. Viola! The perfect size of parchment paper for your baking needs.

OMG, I just spent about 10 minutes trying to get my cake pans lined, I THOUGHT the paper had to go up the sides too and I just couldn’t get it to lay flat! In all of my years baking, I’ve never used parchment paper for cakes only to line cookie sheet pans. Finally googled how to line a round cake pan & found this video. I cut MORE paper, folded it like the directions said & it worked!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!
Lol I’m with you! I usually make 9x13 rectangle cakes & I’ve only every sprayed my pans but I just got a new layer cake recipe & it specifically says to line the pans & I was like wait do I cut a circle for the bottom then a strip to make a ring to do the sides? So I decided to google before I started playing arts & crafts with my parchment 😆
now i have four separate slices of paper, like pizza pieces. lmfao
Me too
Me too!
Me aswell....that guys a liar 😂
I laughed out loud when I saw your comment just for it to happen to me too when i tried moments later
honestly, I traced around the bottom of the cake pan, NOT the top. Cut it out with scissors and it was the perfect size.
I don’t even trace it I lay it on the bottom side and just cut it lol
As others have mentioned, this video misses the one crucial step. Which way to make the diagonal folds ("like a paper aeroplane"). Do I use the fully closed corner, the corner with all 4 leaves separate or one of the 1/2 closed corners as the point? I realize that the term fully closed and half closed aren't quite explicit enough. By fully closed, I mean the corner that was originally in the center of the piece of parchment. The 4 leaves separate is the corner where the original four corners meet. The 1/2 closed are the other 2 corners.

Q
Exactly! Why does the video focus on his fingers instead of what he's doing or cut away to him face instead of showing slowly what he's folding. I'm trying to get basic information, not his lame jokes
This is a lifesaver. Thank you! I just skimmed this video for a few secs with no sound and got it right away! So easy and quick!
when u fold it make sure you are cutting the open edges, DO NOT cut the folded edges or you will not have one piece of paper
So simple and easy to follow! Thank you for taking the stress out of lining cake pans!
Thank goodness I'm not the only one to end up with two semi-circles. Why would he not show the details of the fold after the rectangle? I've wasted three sheets of parchment. I hate stupid.
Omg same
Foook. Same
Everything is so plane and simple. I don't know why you people need additional explanation.
@@milanprtvar6327 If that's the case, why bother making a video in the first place?
I’m sorry you all had such a hard time, but it was really easy to fold and cut. I made my circle on the very first try. I can’t imagine how you got 2 semi circles, maybe try the fold with paper until you get the hang of it?
Good Luck & happy baking!
Content starts at 0:32 great video by the way thanks alot
You're a wizard Harry. Thank you for this!
Perfect 👍🏼!! You made this really easy to learn, especially with your charisma🤗💙💙
Worked like a charm! Finally I was able to line a round form, thank you!
Worked PERFECTLY!! German chocolate cake here I come 🤤
Mate that's superb 👌 Thank you!
Since you didn't explain which sides to fold exactly a lot of people will do this wrong
laly305 I
What? I can’t believe how stupid some people - like you and the people who gave a thumps up to your review are. Can you feed yourselves, tie your own shoelaces or wipe your own butts without having someone telling you how to do it? Jeez . . . .
It took me like 5 try's to figure out what i was doing wrong
I gave up and just went with butter & flour... 100% everytime 😁 Don't forget to wrap them cakes with the foil & paper towel hack... WOW! 😳🎂
@@zinplease1595 I’m sorry, do you believe you live in a world where everyone is Einstein or something? Humans are fucking stupid, have been for thousands of years, and will continue to be fucking stupid for thousands more until we kill ourselves with our own stupidity.
This is brilliant. I don't know why I never thought of that. I guess it takes a genius!
Thanks for the effort, but if the camera doesn't show all the steps then it is useless, don't know which sides to fold or how exactly so i end up messing up
Fold the longer side into a triangle. It's so simple and logical.
I do it and it cuts into semi circles
Perfect! Thank you!
Thank You, you are a genius!!!!😁😁😁
Omg I need a drink after trying this. Where’s my ✏️? 😖
hahaha, the classic looks easy on CZcams but then inevitably cock it up and be left in a salty mood!
For those getting half circles or quarters, fold the rectangle's longest side doesn't have a fold, then, fold the triangle side that doesn't have a fold. It took me like 4 tries to get it lolll 😅
This is literally impossibly to follow and the camera barely shows the steps.
The art of maths !!
Mine keeps coming out in 2 half circles
M same! What am I doing wrong?
The video is cut horribly. It should've had the focus on the paper and he shouldn't have lifted it from the board. Your problem is due to these choices, you are folding it the wrong way
So after folding the paper in half twice, you should have one folded edge on the left and the other on the the top

The you take the bottom left corner and fold it into a triangle the again on itself before cutting it to size.
So you marry up the creased edges of the parchment
geez
While doing the third fold, do it from the unfolded side (continuous) to the side which has two folds...did I make it clear????
I showed him this tip!!
Thank you so much! It fits perfectly for mine too! 😉
Perfect!
Great video... if only loaf pans were lined this easy.
works perfectly ! thank you for taking a quandy and making it simple as .. pie

What size paper do you start with e.g. square of what size?
but what about the sides?
the sides dont matter but if you think it will stick to the sides of the pan then cut a thick verctical long strip
Or buy round parchment papers
What if your paper is on a roll, and not a sheet? So is that a 12 x 8 sheet? Dimensions, please...
Might help if you said which side to do the folds on.
Smart job
Unless you have measuring devises to pinpoint the exact center of your pan this works no better than tracing an outline.
Great idea for the bottom of the cake tin BUT what about the sides of the tin? 🤷🏼♀️
Whats the round pan made of? I have one but only says non stick coating. Whats the material though? Can I season it to prevent rust build up? Mine has a small brown spot that looks like rust but it could be grease too.
Adriel MUtopia metal
You go girl
That was an awesome tip, thank you!!!!
Blank space cause I need it lol
Anyone else need it?
Works like a charm, thanks so much. 😊
That's all great, until you can't find the exact centre of the cake pan.
What size of parchment do you start with? Please and thanks
Wow. Thank you
This was easy to understand though the lack of clear directions.
Suggest to show close ups and orientations rather than comparing it to a tie.
Otherwise very informative.
Awesome!!
Genius! Should have paid more attention in geometry class....To come out right: Fold 3 must match the 2 Folded edges. Or you could just start with a square, rather than oblong, piece of parchment to begin with.
Thank you Jamie oliver from bout 30 years ago...
This worked for me great!!!
I followed your instructions and I ended up with two semi circles.
thnaks for the vid it came out perfect
Glad to hear! Thanks for watching.
Shouldn’t of gotten so baked in baking class. Now I remember
But what if you're cake tin is square in shape
Yeah uh limited parchment over here, just ruined a perfect piece🙄
Great tip!
It is hard to concentrate on just learning when the one who’s teaching is actually so attractive. He’s so handsome tf
Genius
I said if it worked I would comment and like....
Also couldn’t follow and ended up with two semicircles 😕 I’m over it
Why make it so complicated?. Just trace around the bottom of the pan!
A C i tried that. 😕 It's okay if you're good with it sticking up a bit. But the bottom of the pan on the outside is gonna have a circumference slightly bigger than the bottom of the pan on the inside, because of the sides. So if you do it that way it won't fit the bottom quite perfectly.
Awesome!
okay i'll try this
Mine's on a roll. What size do you start with? Ahhhhh! Size of a baking sheet?
12 x 8 i think
Whay happens when you have a papel roll?
How can you do two circles at the same time?
still too small, so i cut the cake pan instead, that'll teach em!
What about the sides
I ended up with one circle and the other one was two semi circle 😮
Why not buy parchment rounds ..instead of wasting all of that paper?
it more expensive thats why
How big of a piece of parchment paper do you start with?
Video doesn't explain how to fold so you end up with 2 pieces
it does LOOK!! silly
Am I the only one who tried this and only got two half circles?
Thank you,,
Wtf mines is in 2 halfs haha
this is new? i was doing that over 20 years ago i though it was common knowledge.
i just wasted 3 parchment papers.... -_-
wah boo hoo get gud
Mine didn’t fit
Gd tip!
HOW
youre sweet but this video SUCKS.. why does the camera move so much. i cant see where the folds are. i HAVE WASTED SO MUCH PARCHMENT PAPER. impossible to follow im pissed
Well I'll be **** 😲
U have to be a genius to figure out which way he has the parchment paper turnt... with him constantly turning it without indicating which way in his directions and the cameraman constantly changing the shot....😡😤😠
Too fast. Slow steps please.
Too many ads. I won't watch this.
he literally couldntve flipped this paper around more and just not shown it- im just doing what i normally do f this
This is the worst description and video. He doesn’t explain which way to have the folded edges and doesn’t show it either so it’s possible to end up with 2 semi circles and waste your paper.
The unhelpful video ever 😂
These are terrible instructions. Words like fold it “lengthwise” instead of “like this” and not cutting the camera away when he’s folding would have been way better!!
Waste of time bad directions, move on .....
Why tf are you going so fast and cutting the scene constantly? Just SHOW!
the way he moves he hands is so distracting
what a waste of paper
fake
lmao jk
bad instructions
Same as Martha Stewart 🙄
