Umm, they took 2 decades to produce a carrier that's still inferior to the Nimitz class carriers produced 50 years ago. They don't have any aircraft that can even use CATOBAR equipment. Their sortie rate is inferior. The carrier is slower. It's non-nuclear with far less range. The electromagnetic catapult isn't even proven to work with combat levels of sortie rates and real aircraft and it's known not to work in range.

As an aircraft carrier, it cannot sail alone and must deploy related frigates and submarines at the same time. And when the frigate is not nuclear-powered, it does not mean much just that the aircraft carrier is nuclear-powered, at least it does not mean much to the current Chinese Navy. The combat capability of an aircraft carrier battle group depends on training. The actual combat capability of U.S. aircraft carriers, except against Japan during World War II, is to shuttle between oceans. The combat capabilities of aircraft carriers during World War II were completely different from modern ones. Is that considered experience? The flight training time of Chinese pilots reaches more than 200 hours per year, which is almost the same as the training time of American pilots.

    • @ctrlaltdebug
      @ctrlaltdebug Před 4 měsíci +1

The experience of flight operations is the same. The naval exercises coordinating other ships is the same, save for the case where the operational endurance of the carrier is limited due to need to refuel. Then again, it gives the opportunity to practice underway refueling.

In say another 10+ years, it is conceivable the debt will rise to $60 trillion dollars and the cost to service that debt, will likely be $2 trillion per year. At some point where the debt and the ability to service it, one wonders how far into the path for default is America already descended into? Based on $5 trillion per year of revenue the IRS collects, if say half that is used to service the debt, descending into default is perhaps a hop, skip and a jump away. As long as the US dollar is the sole reserve currency of trade in the world as well as being the sole petrol dollar accepted by OPEC, then the US can afford its huge debt load.
You have to remember, America's number one export is not weapons, or cars, or grains and other food stuffs, nor raw materials ect, it money, the good old green back.
You want to buy crude oil from OPEC or foreign goods, then you need US dollars to: buy them.
And to get those dollars, you need to either buy them, sell your goods to 3rd party nations for US dollars or trade your national products, goods and services at a discounted rate to the US.
Here's the rub, as long as this state of affairs remains the status quo, the the US is golden.
The day the US dollar ceases to be sole reserve currency of trade, or OPEC decides to open up its markets to a basket of currencies such as the British Pound, the Euro, the Japanese Yen or even the Chinese New Yuen, then it is game over for the US and its economy.
And cracks have started to appear in the US dollar hegemony as various nations are signing trade deals with one and other to trade their goods and services in their respective currencies.
China and Australia had entered into such a deal, although I am not sure it still being honoured given the tension between the two at this time.
The BRIC nations are not only looking to expand their membership, but are actively working on developing their own currency along the lines of the Euro.
In the meantime, various members of OPEC are grumbling and making noise about ditching the US dollar and opening up their markets to other currencies.
Right now, the US is okay, but for how long is anybodies guess.

But if steam generators or oil-powered generators are used, they can be replaced in the future by a nuclear reactor (thorium reactor?) to convert the Fujian into a nuclear powered Carrier. Good arguement on the topic of, the US has 100yrs experience. This carrier skipped over the steam catapult technology entirely. Hopefully it won't take as long to get these working as it did for the US's Ford carrier.
But carriers are expensive, and have a ~50yr service life. Unmanned fighter aircraft and unmanned bombers may dominate naval aviation in 10yrs time. All the time and money spent on 5 gen fighters for this carrier, might it be better to concentrate on the next step? Skipping over the steam catapult was a good idea. In the autoindustry, the switch to EV enabled China to leap ahead. Building a copy of the Ford carrier but 5 years later is a way to catch up. But it is not a way to leap ahead.

Forget about the one BS factor US forces and its allies boast about : nearly 100 years experience in operating aircraft carriers compared to PLAN one decade experience. If that’s the only advantage US navy and its allies have, the game is over.
What is 100 years experience ? Worst case scenario is one year experience repeated 100 X. Or at best 2 years experience repeated 50X. Add on to this experience nonsense, those sailors with experience in first 80 years are either retired or dead. So at most, experience gap may not exist.
Experience also comes with its burdens. That’s bad habit and mentality plus oldies have problems operating new technologies. US aircraft carriers today lack experience taking on another carrier challenging them as it only operates in support of counter terrorism operations with adversaries carrying light guns and wearing sandals.

Not sure about the J-15 being able to suppress the latest models of F-18's, as she is basically a development from the SU-33 model of Flankers. Plus the PLAN apparently only has 60 of them on hand.
And it should be noted that even the Russians now consider the Flanker line to have reached their development max and is now becoming an obsolete design.
Both the F-35 and J-35's have truely yet to be tested in combat. The land based version of the F-35 has seen some limited combat with the Israeli Air Force in attacking Iranian targets, but thats about it.
As for the J-35, she is still under development and is not yet ready for full fleet service. And like the J-15's, there is a very limited number of them available.
I would say it is a bit early to say which is the better combatant, the F-35 or the J-35. But for now the F-35 has the edge as it is already on deployment and its pilots are getting experience in using it.
A lot of the systems you are talking about again have not been tested in actual combat situtations, so their real world utility has yet to be proven. They maybe superiour, on-par with or even sub-par against currently NATO systems, only time will tell.
But yeah, I do agree with you, their gen 4 carriers shold be very interesting.

If one considers the failures, capabilities and deployment of the US navy's resources, one shouldn't worry China's ability to compete militarily with the USA. For one, the much vaunted Zumwalt destroyer project was an unmitigated disaster and was abandoned due to bad planning and failed trials. The US carriers are not anything to be concerned about either, as they spend more time being maintained than deployed. The F35 project is also a massive failure as Lloyd Austin just admitted that only 25% of the fleet is deployable. Hence Matt Gaets' comment that it's a $1.5 trillion paperweight!!! - In December 2023, China gave a high-profile commendation to the Type 055 Nanchang ship. On January 7, 2024, it was learned from the communication published by the North Sea Fleet PLA, in May 2022, with the cooperation of three satellites, the Nanchang ship paralyzed the US Navy's Nimitz-class USS Lincoln aircraft carrier battle group through electronic warfare. (The U.S. Navy's 2nd Fleet, together with the U.S. 7th Fleet, are causing trouble around China, including: Ticonderoga-class cruisers, Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, early warning aircraft squadrons, reconnaissance aircraft squadrons, and SPY-4A shipborne long-range air search radars) The Nanchang ship opened its missile silo, full tracking aiming and locking, It is similar to putting a gun on the head of the US Navy aircraft carrier battle group. For 20 consecutive days, It single-handedly expelled the aircraft carrier fleet eastward and out of the "second island chain". The PLA Navy currently has 10 Type 055 guided missile destroyers, and another 2 are being built. At present, the US Navy does not have the ability to suppress and strike electronic warfare through satellites.
    - on July 11 2023, An article in the US magazine "The War Zone" reported that US Navy intelligence confirmed that China's annual shipbuilding capacity is 232 times that of the United States, reaching 23.2 million tons, while the United States only has 100,000 tons.
    - July 2023, Charles Q. Brown Jr. (U.S. top military commander-Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, former Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force):
It is difficult for us to parry against our main opponent. The US military's ability to defend and attack in the field of electromagnetic spectrum has been weakened due to decades of decline. As a result, the U.S. military appears vulnerable in high-tech warfare, especially in Electronic warfare.
    - The USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier battle group is equipped with the most powerful carrier-based air wing in the US military. The electronic warfare capabilities of its VAQ-136 electronic warfare squadron are nearly twice as strong as other wings, it also makes the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier battle group in the most advanced position in the US Navy in terms of electronic warfare capability. Recently, in the South China Sea, it ended in a major defeat in an electronic warfare showdown with Chinese electronic warfare aircraft.
Afterwards, 21 December 2023 (Refer to the time of the first paragraph), it was confirmed through the official website of the U.S. Naval Institute confirmed that commander officer of Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 136, Cmdr. William Coulter was relieved due to “a loss of confidence in his ability to command.”
    - In March 2024, the USS Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier battle group came to the South China Sea for activities. When it learned that the PLA Navy had rushed into the Western Pacific toward Hawaii, the United States, to conduct 'long-range anti-submarine drills', the USS Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier battle group immediately turned around and fled the South China Sea.
Now, China have hypersonic nuclear missile technology, but the U.S. military lacks hypersonic missiles technology, so it does not have the ability to intercept hypersonic nuclear missiles, and can only be passively beaten.
About the YJ-21 hypersonic anti-ship missile of the Chinese Navy: Its flight speed can exceed Mach 6 and can exceed Mach 10 in the final stage. Its flight trajectory is very elusive and its defense penetration capability is very powerful.
China is currently the only country in the world that has the ability to intercept hypersonic missiles, the current interception success rate is 100%.
The United States lacks hypersonic missile technology. Without considering the insufficiency of the shipborne anti-missile system's ability to calculate changing trajectories in real time when facing an incoming Mach 10 hypersonic missile, just talking about the speed of the anti-missile missile itself, it cannot catch up with missiles flying at hypersonic speeds of Mach 6-10.
On July 2, 2023, U.S. Pacific Fleet Commander Adm. Samuel Paparo: Within a range of 3,000 kilometers, the Chinese Rocket Force DF-21 hypersonic missile can destroy U.S. aircraft carriers. If you don't worry about Dongfeng hypersonic missiles, you are a fool!
In February 2023, the PLA successfully test-fired the Dongfeng-27 land-based hypersonic anti-ship missile. According to the evaluation of the US military, the average speed of this missile reaches Mach 8.6 (sea level standard) and the maximum attack distance is about 9,000 kilometers (a nuclear warhead weighing about 0.8 tons), and it can already directly attack the U.S. military base in Hawaii off the coast of China (60,000 U.S. troops, Pearl Harbor Naval Base, U.S. Pacific Command, Pacific Fleet Command, Pacific The headquarters of Fleet Marine Corps Command, Pacific Army Command and Pacific Air Force Command.), within the so-called "third island chain", the US military has no safety at all.
The US military lags behind the PLA in areas such as missiles, radar, warships, space weapons, warplanes, UAV, UAV aircraft carrier, microwave weapons, laser weapon, electronic warfare weapons...
The quality of U.S. Navy crews has also seriously declined. The U.S. military is still short of 7,000 sailors recruited in 2023. U.S. Navy can't recruit even if U.S. Navy lower the standards, and take into account the lack of training time caused by the aging of warships. Do you still dare to say that the quality of the U.S. Navy is world-class?
On April 17, 2024, Secretary of the Air Force Frank Kendall admitted in the U.S. House of Representatives that only 29% (less than one third) of F35 fighters had combat capability.

Yamamoto’s Combined Fleet has 8 carriers to conduct decisive battle in 1941. Doctrine and martial aggression matters. Last year China’s shipbuilding industry produced 50% of global output or 42 million tons. By 1945 year end, US merchant fleet totals 39 million tons - excluding 3 million ton losses prior. China can produce entire US war effort in a year. Yet people are over excited about the first real carrier. Sad

    • @tvgerbil1984
      @tvgerbil1984 Před 4 měsíci

Japanese shipbuilding in WW2 was hamstrung by the shortage of raw materials and fuel. The US and Allies used extensive submarine campaign in the Pacific and Indian Oceans to decimate Japanese merchant shippings. The US on the other hand had no shortage of raw materials and fuel at all because North America was a continent rich in natural resources. So it is never about how much the Chinese shipyards can build in peace time. At war, the critical factor on shipbuilding is how to keep raw materials and fuel reaching the shipyards.

The Fujisn is little more than an expensive experiment with next to no use. Because of its limited propulsion technology, it's vestumated not to have an at sea capability longer than a couple weeks at most of sustained operations. Resupply at sea is limited and difficult. This means that the Fujisn can operate only mostly within the first island chains and unlikely to venture beyond the second island chains.
The consequence is that the Fujisn would be highly vulnerable in any conflict. Aircraft carriers need to operate far at sea to maneuver at speed in the wide expanse of an ocean for defense. Instead, the Fujian is forced to operate even within range of well placed land based artillery band missile batteries.
And the other aircraft carriers are even more worthless.
The Lianong is little more than a training ship limited by its design and the Shandong's sea trials and training shows how inexperienced China is at carrier operations and that's besides the fact that both are even more limited than the Fujian due to same limitations of conventional propulsion and fuel consumption.
Maybe the Type 004 will be better designed and built but today's carriers have serious problems

Big deal! If one considers the failures, capabilitie and deployment of the US navy's resources, one shouldn't worry China's ability to compete. I don't think Iran, Russia or China see the US armed forces as anything to be concerned about. The US has truly become a paper tiger!!

Serious admiration of the new Chinese ship and Chinese ability....the next ships can only be better, probably with nuclear power and with tech not commonly heard of.....one has to seriously admire the evolution of Chinese ship building and the purposeful steps taken....from ski jump to a flat deck though with a diesel engine,(not that a nuclear engine is beyond them it would happen in a couple of years) but the ability to construct and develop METHODS TO OPERATE these ships for commercial and strategic purposes is also key....the Indian might use methods on the aircraft carrier similar to the British but he has his own personal tweaks that allow him operate with success....and these personal tweaks(the Chinese characteristics) is probably why china built this.
