This will give a big maritime power boost as it adds to the expanding fleet of destroyers, frigates, conventional and nuclear submarines and assault ships. Reviving its maritime power. 6 carrier is just a conservative number. They definitely want more than that.
And by the 2035 they'll still be well short of competing with the U.S. navy in terms of aircraft carriers and almost everything else when it comes to naval capabilities. Not to mention their lack of knowledge operating and maintaining such enormous military machines, where the U.S. has literal decades operating and maintaining its fleet.

When I read the comments..... People think not much of this carrier. Back in the 40ties Americans didn't think much of the Japanese navy...... They gave you a surprise he. Japan only lost because of the lack of fuel and the US had big luck at midway.

I didn't see that 10-20 years ago. I saw a lot of people thinking China will be the next superpower back then. Its only been in the last 5 years I've seen the shift. Hell, 20 years ago many I knew were thinking of going over to China to teach. I didn't only because I had a sick parent who needed help.

Keep hearing reports that the 004 has been started, yet nothing official. Add in the fact the Fujian has yet to be commissioned and seems behind schedule of what the PPC is saying could indicate problems with the design or ship in general. They were stating the first sea trials were to start last year, then in January, and now soon. Testing of the catapults were rumored to be starting early last year, which didn't happen.
Running an operational CATOBAR carrier is more than just knowing the theory, it takes time to develop the real skills and procedures.

China has a long ways to go keep up with the number of Aircraft Carriers the United States has, because a new US Supercarrier is already half way built, and it's in the same class as the USS Gerald R. Ford and the new supercarrier in question has a Historical Legacy that dates back to WW2 during the Pacific War.
3 Ford-class have been built; CVN-78 FORD, CVN-79 JOHN F. KENNEDY and CVN-80 USS ENTERPRISE.

Until now the fujian carrier is still dock while the Ford class is now deployed.
The PLAN appears to incorporate new technologies every time a new carrier design gets approval for construction. This is true for the Liaoning and Shandong. These ships trace their lineage to Russian designs that were built and sailed in seas pitting against NATO.
However, the Fujian and her sister ships have not yet been validated in sea trials and actual oceanic conditions which can require design changes in order to adapt to sea challenges.
The sea is a cruel master and large ships like the Fujian will twist and bend under the rage of the Pacific ocean. If not properly designed, the ship will crack under its own weight.
Russian designed carriers with ski ramps seems to be working fine. Why go for the unproven Fujian design anyway?

The plan to have six aircraft carriers by 2035 will certainly be met as constructions have been going on simultaneously. Now China has a lot on rushed designs and hastily built military equipment that has not been proven to be any better than what China had 20 years ago. Everything about it's military has been hype and speculation. The type 004 aircraft carrier has not been shown to really exist but hear is a video about how great it is. Claims that it will be equal to ships that are based on 100 years of development with the latest new design taking 15 years to design and build. China claims it will produce 3 type 004's by 2030. China has a history of making claims that it can not back up. If they want to make the world believe that China is making rapid advancements in technology and not just numbers show something don't just talk about it. The faster you design and build new technology the more problems you build in. The latest tanks, ships and aircraft from China show indications that they fall short of what was promised. Like North Korea and Russia, China is good at one thing, Big military parades.
