Bosch Drill Press PBD 40 Upgrade - Auxiliary Handle

- The Bosch PBD 40 drill press is very popular and for good reason. It does a fine job and has a small footprint for the average diy shop. Combine that with a laser pointer, lamp and a digital depth gauge and it makes many drilling and the like tasks easy to perform with some precision.
However the wheel handle to move the quill and the head up and down, whilst integral to the design, can be a little testing.
So I designed and printed an auxiliary handle (knob) that attaches anywhere on the existing wheel and provides much better ergonomics.
If you want one shoot me an email: derek dot lark at gmail dot com.
Or you can buy the STLs here and print one for your own useage dereklark.gumroad.com/l/lajid
Or if you are in Australia visit our on line store at: derek-lark.square.site/ - Jak na to + styl
STL files are now available on Gumroad. Link in the description.
We also have added an on-line store at derek-lark.square.site/ for Australian customers. We are working with overseas makers to provide order fulfillment in the UK and US and links will be added when available.
Mate, that is ingenious! I have the same drill and generally think it can’t be bettered for the price, but I never liked the handle. This is a brilliant upgrade. Many thanks from a uk viewer 😀
Thanks Mal. Glad you liked it. The drill is very versatile.
Great product and Bosch upgrade !
I bought one of these from Derek last week, and it arrived today. I've installed it and tested it out. It's a perfect fit and really solidly built. A massive improvement on the standard wheel. Thanks Derek!
Your welcome, glad it is working out well.
I have been playing around with trying to 3d print something for ages but am not that talented yet. This will save me all the grief!!
I also have the STL files available if you have a printer.
Thanks maté great idea
Been waiting for this :D Ordered! Can't wait. Top work mate, will be a great upgrade.
Thanks James
I bought the .stl files from your online store, and received 3 files. BOSCH PDB40 handle upper section.stl, BOSCH PDB40 handle bottom section.stl and BOSCH PDB40 handle knob section.stl. The two first mentioned HAVE exactly the same content. Where can I find the correct 3rd part?
Apologies. Can you send me an email and i will get the correct three to you. derek.lark@gmail.com
Hi Derek love this handle, I do not have a 3d printer do you sell these if so where?
Hi Andrew. Just send me an email Derek.lark@gmail.com cheers
Absolutely perfect. I haven’t bought the drill yet but was wondering how I would get round that stupid wheel. How do I buy one?
Hi Mark. If you are in Australia I print and post from Canberra, just email me at derekdotlarkatgmaildotcom or if you want to print one the files can be purchased at Gumroad via the link in the description. If you are overseas I am working with makers in the UK and US to provide a local option given the cost of shipping from down under.
Yes I’m uk so I’ll hold fire and keep checking back. Looks a great idea Derick 😊 thank you for replying

Very nice work. The round wheel never bothered me during all these years of frequent use, but the chuck is a problem. It's a crappy chuck made for impact hand drills, not for bench drill machines. I changed mine, and that upgrade is really necessary for this machine. During all the years after the change I never had any issues with the chuck, the drill bits never ever fell out in the middle of a drilling work and the runout is also much less now. Here is a video about how to change the chuck to a better one: czcams.com/video/nCqVoaGVK8g/video.htmlsi=keE4udXOp34wgY5U
Thanks for the link. Will investigate the upgrade.
