- Start with your left arm in the correct position and you will feel like cheating in your golf swing. In this golf video Danny Maude shows by getting the left arm in the correct starting position with driver and irons the golf swing just feels easy.
When you get the left arm in the correct position it helps you get a perfect backswing. In fact once you have locked the left arm in place Danny shows you exactly how to move the left arm perfectly with his signature dumbbell move.
But the golf lesson wouldn't be complete without knowing how to move it in the downswing. Danny Maude has you covered. There is no room for loads of complicated swing thoughts in the golf swing so you need something super simple.

ABOUT DANNY
-----------------------
Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!
I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.
On CZcams and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.
Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble
I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

No other CZcams instructor explains swing principles as elegantly and clearly as Danny does. Thank you!
Wow, thank you!
Love it that someone so talented and accomplished at golf is still learning and improving. Danny your enthusiasm for the game and to help others improve is inspiring. Thank you
Super kind David thank you
I am a big fan of Pete Cowen. So really appreciate your interaction with him and sharing what you have learned. Love the content and delivery of the information. Please continue since Pete doesn’t post much.
I have been struggling with my striking for years and this simple change to my grip has significantly improved my ability to strike the ball consistently. Thanks so much!
amazing to hear
Genius. Nothing short. You were born to teach golf Danny. This has immediately changed my "what am I doing wrong" to an "I know what I'm doing wrong". Sincere gratitude for this exceptional lesson.
You are very welcome
„Sir“ Danny, not a bad idea… Great lesson again buddy
Love this video. You basically explained what Pete told you in the other video but with the lead arm instead of the trail arm. Combining this with your video on "squeezing" your arms together to get the right structure is very helpful. Some golfers feel more on their lead side and some feel it more on their trail side. It's important to understand both, but only really possible to think about 1-2 things during your downswing.
This has been one of the best tips giving in a video that truly translated to my golf game. Went to the driving rang the next day and it worked so well on both my driver and 5 wood.
Thanks Danny, please keep up the good work!
The amount you’ve improved and therefore your teaching over the last year needs to be applauded, pulling out all the stops, much appreciated Danny now do us a course vlog lol
Really appreciate the feedback thank you 🙏
Hey Danny, these lessons have really helped. Especially the left foot lift at the top of the backswing, it's really helped with timing. I like the lesson today, I saw Bryson giving someone a lesson and he talked about the left elbow, so I've tried to incorporate it slowly into my swing. This towel drill is a really good way to keep that left elbow under control. As always Danny, thank you.
Thank you, it’s great to listen to Bryson, so passionate about golf
I enjoy the way you use simple props to demonstrate the mechanics of the swing, balance etc. You're lessons continue to improve my game that that of my friends. Have a good week Danny.
Keeps you on plane. I have been using a Plane swing trainer since Christmas, and its been awesome. This drill makes the club stay on plane for the cost of a towel. Great content DM!
Absolutely 👍
Great video, as always Danny. And just the right input before I head for the driving range later today. Thank you.
Love to hear how you get on Marc
Thank you again for your inspired teaching. At 72 and a casual player I was spraying my drives all over the place, mainly a slice….heavily enhanced fade I like to call it! Using your guidance for straight left arm and coming down on the ball, my fellow players were amazed how straight my shots were. I dropped my score by 10 shots on my previous round, mainly by keeping in play. Thank you.
Wow that’s amazing Peter well done
I have noticed for a year when Pete Cowen demonstrates the swing with out a club, that at finish, his left and right palms of his hands are pointing straight left, Danny thank you for putting the whole swing together so this now makes sense.
Really happy to help
Almost all the online instruction w/Pete Cowen is on the right arm. This instruction was like finding the missing link as it applies to the left arm and hand action in the Pete Cowen swing model. It works...Thanks!!!!
Really happy to hear that George
Danny I would think you can do the same move through with an iron “up unravel” that is no? Love this video! One of your best! 😍👏👏👏
My first sport was cricket and preferred stroke was a cover drive or a pull over midwicket. It took years of playing golf (once retired from cricket) to realize the cricket swing was infecting my golf swing. What you described today as a fault in a golf swing is just what you need to hit my favorite cricket shots. For ex-cricketers, think about hitting the ball over long-off. Then you will be swinging the golf club just like Danny suggests in this video.
Thanks for the suggestion Ian
Bravo, Danny! Super, super clear AND movtivating. Thanks for your dedication to your craft and to all us aspiring better golfers!
My pleasure Jeff, really happy to help
Always great content as usual Danny. Many Thanks .👍👍
You are very welcome Johnny
most of the video are great like this one. All are informative and helpful. You are the best.
That’s really kind, Glad you like them!
Brilliant video Danny the power plus accuracy are simply outstanding the tour calls
I’m loving the freedom, I coach my students this all the time and wasn’t doing it myself 😁
@DanielMaude your tips are brilliant mate! Any time im struggling with something I think, surely Danny has a video about that. And without fail, I find one! Love your work!
Excellent video Danny! I have been pushing down on the butt end of the club on the takeaway and then letting it release on the downswing. I really never thought about this having an affect on the the balancing of the club. Now, I will have this balancing thought in mind during my swing! A great tip to remember! Thanks Danny!!!
Love to hear how you get on John
Brilliant video my arm is sore at the moment but can't wait to try it out. Made so much sense thank you
Thanks, Danny. It was a beautiful driver lesson, I see that doing this video is a little exhausted. Thanks again.
you are very welcome
Danny, I m fortunate to live in Texas, so I was able to play and try to emulate the golf swing. You learned from the long driver.
The problem seem to be that I was swinging my arms and not keeping my arms in front of my body, which has been a problem in my golf, swing most of my life. If you feel it would help your students could you do a video on the turning of the body and keeping the arms in front of the chest and not swinging them out before from the chest.
I appreciate your videos, and I’m sure this one with balance of the club will help. It immediately struck a note with me. Thank you for all your help.
I think that would make a great video. Thanks for sharing
Honestly, I think you are the best instructor!... Very lucid and relevant information...thank you!
Another one of your wonderful lessons! SO GOOD!! 😍👏👏👏👏 Thank you!
You are so welcome Janice
As ever, Danny, the best simple tips to improve my game! 👌🤝
Cheers Tom, looking forward to catching up later in the year
Great video Danny. Different approach from your earlier swing path, in earlier videos. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it Robert
Danny, great video. It is important for golfers to understand that in order to control the club face, you muust control the grip end (handle). The clubface usually does the opposite of what the handle does, raise the handle and the club face drops, lower the handle and the clubface rises. Once we learn how to control the handle, we can begin to control the clubface. Cheers.
Absolutely, also important to understand how the wrists also control the orientation of the club face
Great video Dan. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it Dave
Great lesson Danny! Very clear explanation of the hand movement and path. You are the Best!
Thank you 😊
Super kind George thank you
Great lesson, been getting to this position using a couple of your recent lessons and your skipping a stone across the water thought. And using the towel really helped me getting down and through and not keeping weight back, I use that thought on tee.
Brilliant as always Danny, following these to increase speed but also noticing I'm hitting it a lot more out of the middle of the driver face. Certainly makes a difference. Thanks
Thanks for sharing. This is awesome.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Another great video, Danny. A drill that a pro told me was to lift your right thumb (if right-handed) off the club. This lightens your grip and helps you feel the weight of the club head as you swing through and give you more clubhead speed.
Like it Ken 👍
Wow Danny, that is amazing....thank you for the lesson
You are very welcome
As usual, very informative and easy to understand.
Glad it was helpful Jim
Great contents Danny simple and easy tips

As a complete novice, for me, Danny's instructions are with complete clarity to understand some of the simple processes for a great swing and contact.
Really happy to help Michael
Wow. That was impressive Danny! Thank you!
Pleasure, happy to help
Oh, one last quick story Danny. I took the towel with me to the range last week after watching your long drive lesson. I went there with my pal who wants to learn golf. At some point he asked me to show him the driver. I lowered his expectations, showed him the set up and smashed the best driver I've ever hit. I hadn't set the tracer tech to long drive, so didn't get a proper distance. But club path was 0.0 and it hit the net at the back of the range 155 yards away and was rising! By the end of the sesh, I smashed a couple over the net.
I can finally hit my driver! Love you Danny!
So awesome to hear, I bet that felt great!
I almost cried 🤓
Absolutely awesome. Thanks DM
Thank you Ron!
Thanks so much for the awesome videos Danny! You are appreciated

Well done Dan great strikes and information
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks awesome awesome lesson .This portion of my swing has always been a problem!!
Happy to help! Love to hear how you get on
Its so interesting, if you play around with your swing for months youll likely find something that feels good and works. I came across this same exact feeling about a couple months ago and it worked and felt good and repeatable. Up until then it was a slow work in progress. Our bodies are smart, they know what movements work and what movements needs extra movements to get a shot to happen. This feeling should be taught to everyone, the golf swing is up and down. The follow through doesnt even really matter, it takes care of itself when you put yourself in good positions in the backswing and then the unwinding. Realizing it wasnt a turn made the biggest difference in hitting the ball well and consistency. Its just an unwinding!
Looking forward to trying this out.
Love to hear how you get on
Last summer on a Saturday morning at the club's driving range one of my 4some partners asked me what did my friend Danny cover this morning? I gave a quick answer and four other people on the range said they had also seen Danny that morning. Mr.Maude has made a positive effect on me and MANY others.
Danny, I've been watching and enjoying your videos for a few years now. Your more recent videos in particular have been very useful but as someone in their 60's and no longer has the flexibility in my back, how would these new swing drills work for more senior players?
Danny another brilliant video
That’s really kind Stephen
😮 🔥🔥🔥🔥 😮
Thanks Danny ! Amazing drill...
Thank you again for sharing your passion for golf.

Tony
My pleasure!! Really happy to help Tony
Great information Danny, as always.
I watch a guy here in America that has a smallish golf channel and he teaches what he calls "the holy grail move". It's very similar to the unwinding feeling you're speaking about just a little different interpretation. He's a cool guy probably in his mid 50s. Worth checking out.
Certainly will,
This lesson is brilliant and now gives me a better understanding of the club swing path❤
Wonderful to hear Michael
Great lesson! I’ve been away for awhile. When did you start lifting your left foot on drives?
We knew you would find away to interpret Pete Cowen’s ‘spinning down’ for us. Superb lesson again. Been working well on the speed but getting a very high ball flight with the driver. Any suggestion for that in this context ?
Check strike location John, is the ball hitting too high on the face?
Tee it lower?
@@DanielMaude Checked and you were spot on. Thanks coach.
thank you very cool never thought about this.
Appreciate the feedback Steph
Well explained Danny 👍.
Glad you liked it!
Hi Danny, thanks for this lesson. When you concentrate to move the hands down, how do you avoid hitting in the ground?
Danny from your first lesson where you used the towel (which was great) I hold the very end of the towel to make sure I don't take the club back on the inside, I do this by dragging the towel a long the ground parallel with my stance, works great.
Love that Mickey. I love to hear stories of students who have modified what I’ve coached and found their way of doing it 👏
Terry Cork
I'm already using the towel. Will now try for the balance and downwards motion for more whip with the finish.
Awesome! 😊
Thanks!
Thank you Kevin appreciate the support 😁
Hi Danny, again, very good content en really good drill. Could you maybe make a video about the force of grip that is required when applying this technique? I'm noticing that I'm using more force on the grip when applying this swing technique. Do you have a practice for this?
Danke!
Excellent video as usual, Danny!! So fantastic to have someone with the ability to relate Pete Cowen’s vast knowledge to the amateur golfer. You are awesome, Danny. Thanks a lot! Jim
👍👍
Pleasure Jim, have a great weekend
@@DanielMaudeDanny - would like to ask a favor. My lead shoulder pops up and I hang back on the downswing. Can you recommend a video of yours that addresses this? I am a member of your website. Thanks. Jim
@@jim7eye7 the drill in this video is perfect, push down at the start of the downswing and then simply turn it around. Remember if you are a member always take time to post your swings for me to have a look at
@@DanielMaude THANKS BUDDY!!
Great lesson Danny will try this one! Nice meeting yesterday at the Oaks GC!
Thank you Seve let me know how you get on 😁
Amazing, I was just getting a sensr of this feeling confusion of control. Sometimes in line; sometimes not. Now I know why. In addtion, there was a down swing speed difference which going over certain limit made me lose control as well even though the back swing was in control.
Hope this video helps clear things up Ed
Outstanding Danny, I am out hitting by buddies. I used to be shortest driver which put pressure on my game. Could use help with 3/5 wood. Thanks again
HI Danny, does the speed of the back swing affect the speed of the club face on the down swing? Or can I use a slower back swing and then accelerate though the down swing and still get the distance and accuracy (and keep control of the club)?
good stuff! keep up the good work! the grind continues :-)
A treat to watch as ever. Is using the Orange Whip similar to using the rolled up towel please for this purpose demonstrated?
Great lesson as always Danny. This swing looks like it has moving parts and therefore less to think about 👍
Absolutely Alan
My weekly dose of Danny comedy ... "I only hit it 300 yds ... look ... " Danny, if I (senior golfer) could unleash a 300 yard drive, my partners would cry ... "ILLEGAL" ... Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the support Gene
How does the unraveling the club underneath your body square with previous instruction to circle up on the arc and down on the arc?
This is what naturally creates the circle and squares the club face at impact. Was there something specifically you were unsure about as I’d be happy to clarify?
It seemed to me that unraveling (dropping) the club underneath was more of a 2 plane swing motion for better players and circling the arc was more one plane for average players trying for distance through better contact.
Hola Danny, desee Antequera, te agradezco tu master-clase. Para con 69 años te aprecio mucho tus metodos de enseñanza. Gracias 🙂
You are very welcome, really happy to help
Another excellent video, so incisively and enthusiasticly presented as always, thank you. You've helped me transform my game from really bad to less really bad over the past few years 😜 Quick question on this particular lesson: Is it just me or is your launch angle using this method somewhat lower than usual? My home course isn't extraordinarily long and I've always been a long-ish hitter for my age so I'm less concerned about distance. Just hoping to get your thoughts on it. Cheers!
I would say it’s not lower but now more consistent. Sometime I would hit top up on the ball 6-7 degrees and then the next 0 so it was a little inconsistent. Now I’m always around 2
Pete Cowan showed you how to rotate your right arm at (it looks like) the bottom of the swing. It looks like in this video, you rotate that right forearm almost at the start of your downswing which is much easier from a timing standpoint. Am I missing something. Great stuff. Thanks.
Hi Henry, the right arm will naturally drop down a little in transition and then the arm will simply straighten.
It’s this straightening that causes the arm to “spin down” as Pete likes to call it.
Q - when you're "putting pressure" on the handle it's fair to say your wrist is not in an ulnar position, i.e. not fully extended forward/toe down. At impact, have you released this wrist fully down/ulnar? I have done both with mixed results - keeping the pressure down on the handle at impact feels secure, but is harder to close the face without it diving into the ground, whereas hitting the ball with full ulnar makes it much easier to close the face and keep angle up as you're simply bowing the lead wrist, but I'm not sure if it's reducing power. Thanks.
It’s a really great question and one that in reality is a matter of building skill. Remember, if you are generating high club head speed the club is always going to force the wrists into ulnar so it’s our job to apply a force on the grip to naturally control this.
Danny, bloody brilliant
Super kind Andy thank you
Waw , amazing 👏 Danny , great content again , your game is going to next level , I hope it rubs off onto me to 👍
You can do it Duncan
A different way to get the 'unraveling of the trail arm ' done is to 'point with the butt end of your grip at your right hip' ( from 'Japanese Golf Kinematics'; also has a great towel drill) - it gives me better control while in motion; I like the unraveling in slo mo practice. The trail arm should stay as far stretched out as possible ( from Percy Boomer. 1941) - this will give you more time for the 'separation', allowing the feet to move and the shoulder to be delayed, sth I rarely see being done on the range. I find it difficult to train separation and stretched arm with a towel. Just my own learned knowledge here, not to be taken the wrong way.
Appreciate you taking the time to comment 👍
Wow!! Gonna be watching this one a few tines. Another walk off KO
Thanks for the support
Danny!!! Great vid mate! From watching your swing on the screen, it seems like your swing is now more arms lead the swing VS. your body. Is that accurate?
Thanks man! Can’t wait to try it!!!
Certainly feel my body is still in charge just feel it’s moving more freely. I feel I was a little locked down before
Danny this is more regarding your front foot, do you lift it with irons now as well?
How do you guard against a pull when keeping the left arm in that position coming into impact? Another great video!
