The one elephant sees the X on his body and is trying to remove it with his trunk. Very intelligent animals. Another one is like, dang, I'm really a good looking elephant! ❤️🐘💙 Yes, I love elephants!
these are not the only animals that recognize themselves. virtually all of them will recognize themselves, once they learn what a mirror is. just like if a human had never seen a mirror before nor ever seen their reflection...they would most likely have to learn what the mirror is. being that elephants swim in water, they have for sure seen their own reflection many times, so this might be their first mirror, but not the first time seeing themselves in a reflection.
False , other studies have been done with animals using a mirror and the animals still couldn’t comprehend that it was themselves that they were looking at and not someone else …
@@melaninmonroeeee You can read all the studies you want. I have personally witnessed this many times myself. Also just because one individual animal can't understand what it is right away doesn't mean the next wont. People think just because an animal see's a mirror it doesn't understand how it works. Does that same animal run away when they are drinking water from a pond and they see their reflection? No, because it understands it is a reflection. Just like if you lived your whole life and never seen a mirror before, it may take you a moment to figure out what it is. Animals how lower IQs so it takes them a bit longer. People have underestimated the intelligence of animals for many years and only now with the birth and spread of youtube and sites like it that it's obvious we were very wrong about many things. You are comparing apples & oranges. You are comparing humans which have had mirrors in theirs lives for hundreds of years to an primal animal who seen the mirror for the first time. Apples & oranges.
what you just wrote literally made no sense at all . Lol no one even compared the animals to humans in the first place . Wtf are you talking about ?! You just wrote a-whole-lot of nothing 💀. Go read a book Chris or better yet , one of the well conducted studies on this . Instead of just rambling when you dont know what you are talking about . Nice try with that explanation though . Lol
This is completely false, animals aren’t built like our brains most of the time, they simply just can’t register self awareness like that. The animals that do are HIGHLY intelligent, Killer whales, Elephants, Dolphins, and magpies. All of these animals have incredibly high brain-to-body mass ratios, indicating the higher thinking they need to understand this test. I know it feels like animals can “break” their instincts but you have to understand that is your own emotional projection onto other animals around you. Most animals simply just don’t have the brain capacity to do this, they aren’t evolved for that because they’ve never needed to be
The issue with the "mirror test" is that the responses of the animals to their reflections may not always imply self-recognition or self-awareness. Animals may simply perceive their reflections as another individual and engage in social mirroring or display empathetic responses.
Don't put domestic cats or dog in this category. Sure they can after they saw your reflection in the mirror. Wild cats or stray cats can't recognise themselves.
If an animal knows what a mirror is it can recognize itself. I believe my dog can. Most animals will just check out themselves from what I’ve seen in a mirror 😊
Elephants are extremely smart
Magpies, cleaner wrasses, and dolphins: Am I joke to you?
Also octopuses too (that is the correct spelling octopi is incorrect)
Manta rays also recognize themselves
Apparently pigeons too.😊
Think crows can too
Chepanji
Their behaviour is adorable ❤

Other Animals in front of mirror : 😬
Elephants in front of mirror : 😊
I believe manta rays can also recognize their reflection.
I think that’s because they look at the lake reflection very often. So they quickly realize the elephant in the mirror are actually self.
oh wow i didnt think of that
Some birds can recognize themselves too my man.
Which types sir?
@@southlondon86 Ravens, crows, eagles.
Dog can learn it, too.

C'mon conservationists, why would you put an X there? That's just mean.

What horses can't recognise themselves?? I would think they can??
Big brain
GVM voice
They built the pyramids
Cats and many birds are also self-aware.
Domestic cats yes. They used to watch their owner in the mirror. But not for wild cats.
This is wrong there is all kinds of videos of cats 🐈 in mirrors recognizing them self and my cat definitely does
Cat and dogs and pigs can too
also birds
The music is wonderful but a bit too loud its a pain to hear what you are saying....
Not true. I touch myself all the time and still don’t recognize when I … never mind

My dog also did that. He removed something on his head after seeing it in the mirror.
