I keep on searching and connecting with people from phd and the alumni and the companies they are working in. But I didn’t actually talk with them or so.

    Hi mam. My background is in pharmaceutucal sciences. Both bachelors and masters. But I am more interested to do research in agriculture sector. Since I can't enter into agri field through pharma background, I want to go for biotechnology in phd. Is it possible mam. Is it possible to do research work related to agri field through biotechnology. If it is not possible is there any other way mam if I have relevant skills and knowledge.

    Your statement about IISC....'Its the best research institute in India' is absolutely not right. At depends upon what field you are in. For example institute like CCMB Hyderabad or IICB Kolkata are way better in cell and molecular biology research and also having a great past. IISC is no way near NII when it comes to immunology. TIFR Mumbai has a great mathematical background. NIO is famous for oceanographic studies. NEERI controls the green licenses of India. IITs are good in technology related studies.What was IISCs contribution during covid war? Not disrespecting IISC but its also true that IISC is not the best but among the top 10 best.

      Thanks Anjali 😊
      Yes, as you rightly identify, it will be a very difficult task. I did not prefer to take that road and hence got married after finishing my PhD. I wouldn’t say it is a complete no go, I have friends who have gotten married/had kids during the course of their PhD. It does slow down and at times derail your progress. If you will be living with your in-laws, then there’ll be another added challenge there. So please think of all these factors and decide accordingly and be aware of all these roadblocks. If it’ll be only you and your future partner and both of you have great clarity and understanding, then many of the concerns will go away.

    Hi mam, thanks for this nice and informative content. I am here to ask for your personal opinion on a matter that concerns me greatly. I am a 2021 batch of MSc Physics student.
    After passing out due to delayed notifications of NET, I was highly demotivated - and in hopes of getting a job I started preparing for government exams like SBI, RBI etc. My preparation is going well, my marks are at par and with a little bit more of hard work I truly believe, I can crack and get a job this year itself.
    But amidst my preparation, I can't help but think about how life would have turned out had I pursued PhD. Does a gap year of 2 years matter much in PhD admission process if I apply next year in 2023? I have a good CGPA in my class X, XII (9.6) and an average CGPA record all throughout my bachelors (7.0) and masters (7.6) and have currently enrolled in a BEd. programme just to not have a gap year shown on my resume. I have been considering foreign universities and IITs, IISCs equally for a PhD. Is there any hope for me after this gap year? I dont have any extraordinary publication or project record in the past.
    Also on a personal note - I do want to have a stable source of income in future. My idea of my exact future profession is still quite blurry since I feel like you never know what your profession actually entails until you're into it but I do know that I would like to have a stable source of income 4-5 years down the line. Would you suggest me to continue with my job preparation or would you suggest I sit for GATE, NET as well? Making a choice to leave academia with everyone re-iterating "higher education is always worth it" scenario is hard because its the only thing you know and have been taught since you were in school.
    Hope you can provide your own personal opinion on this matter. Thank you. Have a great day.

    • @ThePseudoDoctor_NavjotKaur

      Hi Sinbycosi!
      Thank you for appreciation and for pouring your heart out so well. Here is my response to the questions you have asked:
      1. Gap years after MSc will not be detrimental in the admissions process till the time you are able to justify for them well. Many people pursue PhD after years in other career paths. But their thought process and actions over the years demonstrate their passion for doing a PhD.
      2. No one can guarantee if you’ll have a stable income source whether you do a PhD or a bank job. I would say you go for the option you are interested in and passionate about and that should drive you to work hard and ensure financial stability.
      3. I do not believe in the saying that higher education is a must to have a successful career. I know many many of my friends who have not gone for higher education and are doing exceptionally well. Please have your purpose for pursuing a PhD clear in your head as that is what drives one in their tough days during a PhD and trust me there will be many.
      I hope this helps and all the very best for whatever you decide to pursue 👍🙂

      @ThePseudoDoctor_NavjotKaur  Před 2 lety

      Hi Krishna,
      I did not apply for a Postdoc. The importance depends on what you would like to do in your career. Many academic institutions mandate a Postdoc as an eligibility requirement for applying for faculty positions. If those universities are your goal, you’ll have to do one. But the industry doesn’t mandate such a requirement and you can straight away take up jobs in the files of your interest.

    • @ThePseudoDoctor_NavjotKaur
      @ThePseudoDoctor_NavjotKaur  Před 2 lety +1

      Postdoc is a phase where you usually try to pickup problems significantly different from your PhD experience to expand your thinking and awareness and skill set and build a niche for yourself. You learn to be a more independent researcher and prepare further for an academic or industrial career.
