Very few opportunities. I can see either you can apply for Scientist A/b for in NIC or IT officer in a bank. Only in the case of Scientist B in NIC you will get a salary of around 70k, the other two places you will get around 45k.
There are other places as well for case but in that case, recruitment happens less frequently.

You cannot compare institutes that way. Yeah but a fair comparison can be made between similar departments in different institutes on the basis of faculty and facilities provided. For an instance lets consider you got selected in ME dept in IISc and IIT Madras. In that case go look the profiles of the faculty and things they are currently working on and their publications.. Without being biased choose the one which interests you the most. You would rarely find much of a difference in the qualifications of the faculty in both these institutes therefore only way of comparison left is research areas.
IISc is no doubt an exceptional institute and an heaven for research enthu people but the IITs are also catching up. They have amazing research facilities. Take for example IIT Madras. It has been conducting research on 5G, brain research and some other very interesting areas.

Its not a criteria for selection. So relax.
If you publish research paper during mtech, it is confirm you will get admission for phd in iits. Percentage will not matter but it should be >6.5 cgpa

75 % throughout is optimal but even 61% is okay as long as you are BTech from a good college or have good cgpa or good projects to showcase.
