Quran 4:34 tells to hit a wife only as a last resort option when nothing else works and she is out of control entirely. And the way you hit is regulated in the Sunnah which says that you must hit without causing harm, causing an injury, leaving a mark and you can’t hit a face.
The purpose behind this is not to hurt or humiliate the woman, rather it’s intended to make her realize that she has transgressed against her husband’s rights, and that her husband has the right to set her straight and discipline her.
Use of force is justifiable for discipline and taking situation under control. Nobody would argue with that. That’s what law enforcements do. Man in an Islamic family has the function of a policeman. So yes, if your wife lost her mind - you can use force to discipline her.

married to an equal and the role is that of partnership and Qur’an gives a very good
    phrase in,
Surah Baqarah Chapter. no. 2 verse no. 187, where Almighty God says
    ُه ن

    ْم ِّلبَا ٌس ل
    نتُ
    َ
    َوأ
    ُكْم

    هُ ن ِّلبَا ٌس ل
    That
“They are your garments, and you are their garments”
that means your wives are your garments and you are the garments of your wives.
What is the role of garment? The role of the garments is to beautify, to conceal, to
protect. The husband and wife, they conceal each other’s’ faults, they beautify each
other, they help each other. It is the role of hand and gloves.

Again when reading the translation the reader not understanding any arabic is totally at the mercy of the translator. The word daraba used is translated “beat”
Now one also comes across the same word Daraba when telling us about tayamum. Here Daraba is translates as “ tap” as one requires earth to for Tayamum. So it states to tap the earth and then wipe both hands and face and head doing the Tayamum. Daraba in one place is translated as “Tap” and in another the word Daraba is translated to “ beat”
Arabic is very powerful and other non symmetrical languages not having words to accurately translate. Reason we hear “much gets lost duing the translation “ pls research.
    JazakAllah!
Just think when is one really angry. Of course initially. And not after waiting for days. Reason it is said anger is haram as many nonsensical stupid actions transpire during the stage of anger.

    وَضَرَبْنَا لَكُمُ الأَمْثَالَ} أي بيّنَّا
That is why translating the Quran is really critical because you never ever can get the precise meaning of the Quran unless you read in Arabic and go to the scholars.
Scholars says that in the Ayah فاهجروهن means leave them and make a distance by not sleeping in bed but still sleep at home. واضربوهن means leave them ( not divorce ) but leave them alone and dont even sleeping at home.

The reason it can’t say “you can beat your wife” is because it doesn’t really fit there. It’s giving you a lesson an anger management and showing your the steps to take when she cheats on you. The level of anger otherwise would be sky high. It’s showing you in baby steps what to do by saying yes we know you are angry and you want to do xyz but the ‘worst’ you can do is touch her gently. So it’s saying what you want it to say but in a reverse way. It’s important to try and understand this with that particular situation in mind.

In my understanding “Tayamoom” is an onomatopoeia to the correct translation is not “hit” but “to pat the dust off a rock to clean the surface to make it more palatable for sitting or some other use” or a more literal translation “pomf pomf”
Also if anyone can help me find the Hadith that went something like “the prophet ﷺ forbid the act of men beating women and then the next day they’re was a crowd of women around his tent (implied that they were complaining about their husbands) and the prophet ﷺ said something to the effect of ‘they are not among the truthful’ or something like that (implying that some of them had made fabricated stories about their husbands because it’s impossible to prove domestic violence even today)”
when I first read this Hadith (that I can’t remember for the life of me) I understood it as apart of progressive revelation, where the prophet ﷺ struggles with an issue and Allah ﷻ grants the perfect answer, in this instance I saw this as:
First the prophet ﷺ bans all abuse
Then this opened the door to some women exaggerating to fabricating stories
Then the Prophet ﷺ made a ruling that “one must not hit the face, or cause pain or leave a mark” because these things can be ‘proved’ as evidence and essentially making this wife beating illegal without making it actually illegal
Then Allah ﷻ made the perfect ruling that made a procedure to deal with the issues of men being frustrated with their wives:
    A. separate from them
    B. Send them to their parents (getting family involved in the domestic affair)
    C. The “pomf pomf” strike (that is a neutered beating, like a spanking, if there ever was one) that symbolizes the last straw before divorce

That's what happens when you try to translate a rich language like Arabic into English... the word "beat" has so many more meanings, for example strike, touch, pat. It is also used in other sentences in the Quran, for example when Allah (swt) says that he will "beat" an example. This does not mean the actual beating, but rather „striking“. The Prophet (saws) also uses the word "beat" when he shows how tayammum is done. This involves "hitting" or „pating“ the ground with the hands.
As Allah (swt) says: it is not the eyes that are blind, but the hearts...

It is we who need interpretations, not the Qur’an. Arab globalization has caused a clear impact on the language, since the Arabs entered the Persians fourteen centuries ago, many Persian words were introduced into the Arabic language, meaning they were Arabized, and the same thing happened with the Aramaic and Syriac languages. And others. As for the days of colonialism, they had the greatest impact in distorting the language. Arabic was banned in some colonial countries and French and others were imposed forcibly on the colonized. The British colonial forces burned some of the important religious and Arabic manuscripts and stole some of them to place in the British National Library in London. Then English globalization with all its ideologies came to directly affect the various local Arabic dialects of the Arabs.
The Arabic language has influenced other languages, but it itself has also been influenced, so that today’s Arabic is far removed from the Arabic of the Qur’an, which was revealed at the height of the era of rhetoric and eloquence at that time, and here comes the role of interpreters, scholars, sheikhs, and others who have something to mention in order to correct people’s misconceptions.

Contrary it's commonly in a good way when using on your family for example to warn other that you don't like it or you need to tell them not to do it. If Quran say you can't beat, wife won't give a face to husband at all. Don't you see the problem in news that wife abuse kind and gentle husband? It's because she knows her husband won't beat her no matter what. Maybe that's the wisdom behind the verse.
