I’ve been a leather crafter for over 25 years. If it says anything but “full-grain” or “top-grain” leather, chances are that it’s fake. “PU leather” and “Vegan leather” - not to be confused with veg-tan - are vinyl. “Genuine leather” is made from leather dust mixed with glue, rolled flat, and a vinyl top layer applied (it is literally trash). Many cheap leather goods from the Middle East and Asia are made with goat leather. Typically - even though it is actual leather - the quality is poor, the leather is really thin, and it often smells terrible due to the way it’s tanned. In short, quality leather is more costly so if it looks like a screaming deal, chances are high that it’s not worth buying.

Helpful! Made me think about choosing a case if l am just chucking my pens into a bag or placing them. As l have my first Estie on its way it would be great to have it rolled up and placed safely on the table.

Expected a super niche fountain pen tool, but was pleasantly surprised the topic followed the thumbnail. Attainable storage has been on my mind with the ever-increasing pen collection.

I love storage and organization videos of any kind! I also started with some cheap options to start but then I got a Rickshaw roll for my nicer pens that are inked up and just fell in love! Thank you for sharing especially from a fellow Canadian! I really enjoy your thoughts on fountain pens!

I forgot to add I adore the 45 fabrics cloth cases. Have wanted one for some time now, just haven't pulled the trigger. Your cigar boxes are amazing! What a special skill to magically convert a special vintage item into a useful addition to your collection. I'm also pining for the Easterbrook cloth pen cup or pen roll. Love their stuff...
I have a few more ideas for the cigar boxes buts it's all about time. To do some really cool stuff requires detailed work, nice finishing, dry time waiting, etc. Unfortunately with a 4 & 6 yr old and running my own business I just don't have the time to do some really cool stuff. So this method for the cigar boxes seemed to be a good balance of outcome to build time.
Love the pen rolls and your samples of DIY pen boxes. I've tried making pen boxes as well using purchased display liners that you can cut. Love collecting different kinds of boxes. Will check out your other pen box tips.

I always appreciate your honest reviews of pens and this was perfect timing because I just purchased my fourth fountain pen (I’m hooked) and have been looking at cases. Those Esterbrook cases look great. I hadn’t thought of a soft case but now you have me thinking. I do woodworking and these remind me of the rolls I use for my bench chisels. I like the idea of using cigar boxes too.
Those look very nice! My wife got me the Cherry Blossom case for Christmas and it's fantastic. I've been looking at the Esterbrook as well. A friend of mine really likes them roll and the cup they make

Great video as always! Great variety of solutions. For my EDC i mainly put them in individual leather sleeves and tuck the inside my lochby field journal. Usually carry about 5 inked pens. Thanks for the great content!

I just bought my first vintage pen, an Esterbrook J series with the 9314-M oblique. Haven't had a chance to ink it yet, but I'm very much looking forward to it. I love what you do with found items like cigar boxes! I do that sort of thing myself. And, yes, I did start with coffee cups. I have to say that trying to get the roll right reminds me of rolling up my sleeping bag after a camp.

I was surprised and excited to see that this video was about pen storage. I sewed myself a couple cases when I started the hobby this past November (one for upstairs, one for downstairs). I couldn't imagine throwing them all in a pencil case after spending $6-35 per pen!

I only have 'starter' pens right now, and I house the inked ones in a Luddite Liberator Cordura Round Zip Pen Case - long pockets protect the bodies of my Metropolitans, and my Preppys, Kakunos, and Sports fit nicely in the opposing mesh pockets. Would love to upgrade my pen case game someday, I like the look of the leather and magnet cases a lot, but the pen roll has a certain nostalgic feel as well!
The penrolls look gorgeous! So far I have a large knitted pen roll, and a 3 pen galen that I love. Definitely makes the fountain pen experience more personal and tactile to find a storage method that resonates with you. Good luck to all!

Wow! Love this video and all the pen storage options you have shown. I do have a vinyl zippered case that could fit about 24 pens -about the size of a large notebook. But I'm thinking about getting a pen roll case like those oh so very well made Esterbrook. I need something to carry my 16 pens safely in my handbag, in case of emergencies or so as I live in a earthquake prone zone. Thanks for describing in detail every one of the cases. Lovely video.

I love the Rickshaw pen sleeves that I have. They have fun designs and the fleece lining means I never have to worry about my pens.

Hello, Doodlebud! Great spread of cases. And I really like the cigar boxes.o remind back when the Dollar stores came into being many, many, moons ago, I found a brand new unused cardboard cigar box. It was simple, not as majestic as the ones you have here. But it was pretty nice still. I used it to hold my pens back in the day. My drawing pencils and calligraphy nibs and stylus that I used to draw with were a great fit with room to spare in that box. I should still have it somewhere but things get misplaced or lost in moves some how. So I haven’t seen it in a long time unfortunately.
Now I have a few nice cases. I love my Galen Leather cases a lot. I now have 2 -Old School Leather Molded Pen Cases for 5 pens. One is Crazy Horse leather brown and my newest in black with white stitching. I also bought along with the black one, the Leather Magnum Opus 6 Slot Pen case with removable tray in black. That is the one that looks like your blue magnetic case. This is also magnetically closed. The Old School 5 Pen Cases have a metal closers. I have a few DeLoro Leather Triple pen cases.
I also have a large Galen Leather 40 Pen case and a few more.
I don’t need all of these cases but I am seriously addicted to buying them. I have more than enough at this point! In fact I should sell some of them. But I haven’t been able to bring myself to do so.

Right now I'm using old eyeglass cases, a small bamboo box I think came with some cooking spoons and spatulas, and a hand made ceramic pot I found at the thrift store, and my felt lined desk drawer and it's organizer.
I bought an esterbrook pen cup right when they came out and I love it. I have no fear putting my pens in my backpack now and it looks great on my desk.
The Esterbrook pen rolls look sturdy and beautiful! I would love it for my Esterbrook pens. As you said they look very well made !
