New home builders charge extra for the knock down ceilings in canada lol... I will do this myself now. Thank you for showing how. Greatly appreciated.
And now I know. Didn't even know there was roller for this. Thanks.
you're welcome, Dawn!
Leah you are awesome! Thanks for your great videos.
Is there anything this amazing woman can't do? Thank you again Leah
Hey Chris, It's always nice to hear from you!
I always learn something new from you. Thanks
Welcome back, Leah. It looks nice. Happy Holidays!
Faddidaddionline thanks for commenting
Ah Leah, you inspire me as well as instructing me. Thanks for this. Great demo video.
@Sayit AsItIs The thought of a freebe never entered my mind. I don't need anything. I give sincere compliments when somebody gives me an idea or technique I can use. Merry Christmas or whatever you celebrate.
Hi Leah. I just came across your vlogs, and I have to say thank you so much. I come from a carpentry family, but I’m a nurse. I learned some stuff from dad, grandpa, and uncles, but never got into the business. Now that I have my own house, and my carpentry relatives are gone, my wife expects me to fix and build stuff. If not for your videos, my stuff would look like an amateur did it. Thanks for saving me.
Love you Leah, I never knew....how they did this. The knock down is so much easier on the eye. The idea of this is to soften the plane of the wall or ceiling, the points sort of betray this intent; they look like they are actually sharp, not soft.
This is the channel i needed 10 yrs ago when i remodeled my home, but at least i now know a bunch of tricks for next time, Thanks Leah.
you're welcome, Edgar!
Very nice results, thank you so much for encouraging us Leah
Simply fantastic. Love her tone and ability to communicate!❤️❤️❤️
Fantastic. I have a plaster wall that is uneven and have been trying to decide what to do with it. Now, after only 10 years........you've given me the answer! Thanks Leah.
This is so cool! I've seriously never seen a design on a ceiling. Love love love it! I'm going to do this when I build my tiny house. Thanks Leah! ❤👏👏👏
Leah, thank you so much for your videos. I've leaned so much. I found you because I was searching for how to install shelving in my kitchen.
I was a big fan of textured walls when I first learned to do mud. I had a painting contractor work on my house and taught me how to do level 5 walls. I'm done with textured walls and ceilings now.
Maxid1 I can appreciate both a level five finish and a classic ceiling texture
@@seejanedrill Although I prefer smooth walls and ceilings now, I think it's important to know how to texture. Specially when you have to fix a section of textured wall or ceiling and you want the repair to be seamless.
Instead of adding water to the joint compound, you can add drywall sealer (paint) to thin the mud, or what I have used, is the liquid from latex paint that has been frozen and separated, and the liquid on top mixed into the mud thins it and seals it in one application. Saves time and one extra step, once the texturing dries, you can go directly to painting the walls the color you want, no extra step with applying a sealer and then painting. Cuts out the cost of several gallons of sealer before painting.
thank you for sharing your personal experience
As a contractor I prefer to paint the ceiling after so that way I can touch it up easily..but many builders do what what you mentioned. Either way you have to buy the paint. I just use a primer/ceiling paint and spray everything. Backroll the walls quick sand and you are ready.
I tried to paint over a knock down pattern and I couldn’t do the trim that separates the ceiling from the wall! I had to have my contractor come over and cut it in for me. I know you have shared the correct brush or sponge method but I cannot remember how you accomplished it so well! I love your tips that is so awesome to see a pro do the job right the first time!👍
Leah, great information. Also, rough texture, crisp edges are
places dust can/will settle. And for knockdown i wait about
10 to 15 minutes to lessen the chance of pulling or smearing
the texture.
Norm Hodgkinson Thank you for commenting and sharing your personal experience
Thank you so much.. Been looking for info on texture rollers and techniques. I didn't have the words to find the info I needed.
My folks did a heavy joint compound rolled on walls in the 1970s. We cut our elbows on those walls constantly...but it was an old house with lots of cracks so rather than patch hundreds of cracks, they did this texture. It was also VERY difficult to repaint. the lumps and bumps and divots don't take paint well.
This is why it is necessary to knockdown the texture when placed on walls
I would recommend sanding the wall back, even when repainting a smooth wall without texture. Will make your life a lot easier
Brilliant at explaining so precise ,you are a good teacher
Well done great video keep them coming
😊
That’s awesome I have uneven walls upstairs in my attic. They are the knee walls and I think this would be perfect for them. Thanks for the great idea what a great way to hide blemishes to
I once saw a roller that was tennis themed -- It was a pointgamesettia design
lol
Great video
6:50 best looking texture I’ve seen.
I like that knockdown look! Great job!
Love your idea thanks
4am for me,dedication for you!😃😃😃😃😃😃👍👍👍👍👍
Alan Mullock. thank you Alan
Awesome!! Thanks for the tips!!!
How do you get the joint compound to adhere to the ceiling? It looked like a pretty thick coat which may eventually crack and chip off. Is there some sort of prep needed for the ceiling before laying on the compound? Great video!
Nice job Leah. I like it.
I like that end that she shows. A deep fade. I might try that with some other pattern.
Excellent advice and a great way of putting it over 👍
Thank you, learned something new. Live your channel.
Thank you so much for the advice. MY house has the crows foot pattern always wondered how they did that . IM buying that roller never know when i might need it. Thanks your awsome
you're very welcome, Robert!
Thanks for the time saving tip!
Great learning video. Thanks a bunch.....
Very good job
I’m sending this to my nephew, he loves poinsettias!
😊
Good one Leah. Have a great weekend. Tim
thanks Tim
👍 great video Leah
I enjoy watching your videos so much, I learn alot from you. Your voice reminds a little bit of Kathy Bates (who is awesome btw)... you could pull off the "What is the cockadoodie is wrong with this thing!". I mean that as a compliment
Thank you for your instruction videos! I am a DIY woman with very little skill, but your videos have inspired me and given me the confidence I need. I just removed paneling from the wall that surrounds my fireplace. The sheetrock is pitted from the glue, and looks tigar striped with the glue residue left behind. There is no texture to speak of, maybe a very faint orange peel. I sanded & sealed the glue stripes with shellac, going over each stripe twice with drying in between each layer. Then i primed the wall with Gripper Primer. The glue is completely covered, but I can still see the lines. Next up is texture. I have never done texture before and it is a little daunting, but it's not like I'm working on the Sistine Chapel, right? Wish me luck!
I am wondering what product to use to fill in the very small, but noticeable gap between the wall and the fireplace? Any ideas would be appreciated.
This is wonderful
Wow beautiful ❤❤❤❤
Thanks for the ideas
I tried the palm leaves on my ceiling last year. Tested on a rock sheet, and it looked good. BUT, when it went up on the ceiling, the compound kept plugging the indents on the roller. Every 5 feet stroke, I had to wash off the roller to continue. The ceiling looked real nice, but it took forever! I must've done something wrong. The roller should plug up the indents on the pattern like it did.
Sheila Igne Did you roll the texture on first with a regular paint roller prior to using the texture roller to imprint the design?
Leah. , thanks for sharing !
I'm going to try this
They also use a daub brush for a more starburst-ish pattern.
kds471 thanks for cimmenting
Fantastic. Thank you
you're very welcome!
Hey Girlfriend,
Miss L.,
Like always Wow! Nice to see you back, and learn something beautiful!
Thxs, R. 🎄
Rick V. Thanks
Hell yeah!
Thank you
That was very interesting. I'm not a fan of the poinsettia pattern. I do like that knocked-down finish that you created, though. Thanks for all of your help. You are a home owner's best friend. :)
Thank you, Linda, and I hope you are having a great holiday season!!
What about adding some white paint
So cool... Thanks
I love this! Tho I usually get hired to cover this kind of stuff lol
Hi Leah, does it matter what type of 1/2” nap roller I use to apply the joint compound? Thanks!
Could I do this on exterior walls?
Good deal Leah.
That's awesome
Hello Leah and good morning just wondering how much pressure do you apply to the roller on the ceiling texture
just an "average" amount, similar to if you were applying paint
Good,, you are the best.
😊
After doing the roller poinsetta if I'm unhappy with a section after it dries can I go over just that section again? I believe my mud was too thin so the flower pattern in one spot stands out too much.
Great video! Super! Question: Is there any way to add paint to a texture as to make it a all in one application?
Some people add white paint to their texture but I have seen mixed results doing it this way, so proceed with caution if you go this route.
Where I can buy this rolls .
wow!
How do you do the corners of the walls?
Nice
Love ya Jane
Whew that 3 second breather I thought the had a heart attack.Shes hood with that black stick in her hands.
I didn't even know this existed! But who named the pattern? That's not poinsettias, it's daisies. ;)
Thanks!
Beejay Swifter the pattern does resemble dasies
How do you change existing texture without taking the sheetrock off the wall
Kram Awagatuka it depends on the texture.
@@seejanedrill well how do I no. I I bought this house and I'm trying to do the sheetrock because it wasn't a very good job
Leah, my DIY Queen, I thought you had to first let spiky step first set up a little before you knock it down. Evidently you do not. Right?
You're correct, It's best to allow the joint compound to set a little, prior to knocking it down..... it'll give you more control if it's done this way.
I have seen a house painted in this way and without knocking down the edges, took me long enough wondering why people would choose such ugly and thorny pattern and rough surface that is hard to clean up.
I thought that fashion of textured walls and ceilings died out years ago, I'm in the UK.

raindogred interesting to know
I've just discovered the channel, and the biggest thing is that I'm worried about Leah?? She's so shaky all the time and that can be a symptom of many things. Does anyone know if she's mentioned the reason why before?
Why don't you mind your own business.
@@charlesxix ?? Are you okay??
Hey Sir Tyler, I have addressed this concern in posts before...since you are new to the channel... here's rub..... I have had unsteady hands since childhood and when I drink coffee (which I love) it gets a little worse. No worries, I'm quite well.
@@seejanedrill wow, okay. Probably essential tremors then? Well, I can look through your posts. Anyway, thank you for your reply! I did just discover your channel a few days ago, and what I've seen so far has been sooo informative and helpful.
Awe ~ No Fun! I'd like Holly Leaf on wall and Leave the texture as is for a Reality 'Check'. Hey, it's Holly, of course it has sharp leaves. ; )
😊
I'm more of a tin ceiling fan myself.
Those who have thumb stuck down, have had thumb stuck up.
Doing the "in" thing is never a good idea because it will be really dated in a few years. Now I wish there is a less messy way to get rid of my pop corn ceiling.

How do you get the orange pill textures. Is that the knock down!
P. S. Love your videos
Here goes: czcams.com/video/FonedKgrP5U/video.html
@@davidparker7909 Thanks but it appears that it won't work for me as the ceiling is painted - it was SO gross with all the dust accumulation when we moved in. May be it would be just easier and way less messy to re-panel.
but why would anyone wanna do this? When I see this in peoples houses, it reminds me of when I was a kid going to my grandmas house with this ugly textured ceiling and wood paneling walls. yuck!!
Great video
