FULL DISCLOSURE: I am familiar with the original version of this song by the original artist/band. However, I have never heard this cover. Therefore I will not be reacting to, evaluating, or scoring the original song in any way. I will ONLY be reacting to, evaluating, and scoring this particular cover of the song. Leo and Mary are absolutely stellar in this cover. Leo has a prodigious output and when you consider the work he does in laying down all the tracks , setting up all the camera shots and then all the post production stuff - it is just amazing. IIRC he publishes covers weekly for the most part.
I love her voice in this, nice sultry voice that mixes well with his harsh vocals.
I love the energy of this cover without losing the feeling of the original.
I was confused about why you would say Mary didn't do the solo. She is a great guitar player who played all of her parts for this. Certainly she's miming for the video, but for the recording it's completely her.
I've loved Mary since I saw her do a cover of Jim Croce's operator. Highly recommended.

Hey Dave. Been a DS and MK fan for 40 years and I really love this cover. Also a big fan of Mary Spender who recently played some of Mark's guitars that he sold in an auction for charity for teen cancer...120 of them. Still has many left, just released his 10th solo album at 74 yo. Mary is a great musician and singer. Also I would love your reaction to a song called Calling Elvis one day from Dire Straits Live "On The Night" 1992. It's one of my faves of all time. Say what you want about Leo, he's an exceptionally talented individual. And for all the covers he does, he stays within sight of the original while still putting his spin on things. And Mary was an excellent choice to colab with on this song.

As for covers... isnt it the goal to take a certain song and give it your own spin? If you just made a carbon cover... you dont cover it, you just perform it. Just my thoughts.

The banjo-tar in the opening is a really nice touch. I believe Mary likely played the solo during the recording. She's a very talented musician. Their voices meshed very well, I think. This was the 2nd Leo song I discovered (after Africa).

Leo definitely has stronger covers than this, but everything he does is pretty damned good so it's a high bar.
