Absolutely amazing! It’s so impressive! But you know what, it’s not the most impressive building in Baku.. I shall share that one soon!
I am Azerbaijani. My country may have a mostly Muslim society, but there are people from all religions in the country. For example, there is even a Jewish town where 20 thousand Jews live. Azerbaijan is the country that gave women the right to vote for the first time in the east in 1918. It is the most peaceful and democratic country in the Middle East. People respect each other's religions and no one interferes with anyone else's culture
I really liked it and I felt very welcome.. I loved that everyone was so relaxed. 😍

Azerbaijan is situated on the cross roads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia being a Caucasian country keeps all 3 cultures. You should definitely visit the other cities as well such as Şəki, Oğuz, Gədəbəy etc. And The highest inhabited area in Europe Xınalıq village in the north

I too knew nothing about Azerbaijan apart from it being a former Soviet republic, its associations with the Eurovision & travel CZcamsr Davud Akhundzada who originates from there, so the enlightenment was much appreciated; it looked as if your family loved it too!
I enjoyed the fact that it was so bright, cheery & colourful wherever you went with plenty of sunshine to boot; what was the temperature there by the way?
You'll definitely get me to try their unheard of local cuisine, much like you did with calamari! I know that it's a predominantly Muslim county, but I'm curious to know if you encountered any pork products on their menus & did you bring any of that wine back home to London?!

It was such a surprise to me.. Baku is so modern, clean, comfortable, beautiful and more.. their attention to detail on buildings and parks is second to none I think. They are indeed predominantly Muslim, I would say very moderate, I didn’t see pork. The pomegranate wine was interesting! We brought one bottle home. The temp is normally low 30s in summer but there was a heat wave when we were there so it was high thirties.. the wind helped.. known as the city of wind!
@@carriepatsalis you can buy pork sausages in the local supermarkets. You just need to ask the shop assistant, because they sell variety of sausages also imported from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and even Germany.
@@carriepatsalis Azerbaijan is a secular country and it is one of the least religious country in the world. People nominally call themselves Muslim, Christian and Jewish but do not practice strictly their religion.

Welcome Kate. I live in London and normally travel to Baku with Azal as a direct flight or the cheapest way to travel with Wizzair. Round trip cost with Wizzair via Budapest around 150-200£ depends on the date.
We flew via Frankfurt in the way out.. and via Istanbul on the way back.. a direct flight would be great though
@@carriepatsalis You took Lufthansa. AZAL is the best in term of food, service, direct flight in the brand new aircrafts, but the price is higher than other airlines. I enjoyed your videos about Baku very much. You are a very talented presenter!
