Thank you! - Hry
It’s so freaking hard to find any English language coverage of pro go tournaments thank you so much for making these videos!!
Ko-Threat Factory!!! Sounds like a new band. Great review. Thanks.
Your programs are very good, the best so far, don't blush.
Thank you for the review, I love how you narrate the game and explain the motives and feelings of the players behind their moves. And it's always interesting to hear what kind of personality and playstyle they have.
I watched Michael Redmond cover the first 2 games live. Amazing centre strategy in the latter.
Amazing review! Thank you for doing this Yeonwoo!
thank you so much for doing this video! wonderful Go content
shin Minjun is an amazing played. So thick!
Thank you (from Alaska), for all of your amazing videos :)
Thank you very much for this video. I discovered recently your channel and I enjoying it a lot. It is the best channel I've watched so far.
All the best!
Thank you for the video very much. Watched this game in the week small hours this morning.have to say I was pleased that Shin Minjun won. Good for him 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 About time for him to make his first International title win. All congrats to him.
5:30 O8 looks like a very slow move but it makes sense, it's the vital point of the shape and makes this group really strong. It's the kind of move most amateurs wouldn't consider because it looks slow but is actually just very calm, solid and thick.
Great video!❤
Perfect game, perfect review: thank you! I love your reviews, like, also of your live games: hopefully we can see another “9 Dan project” game of yours.
So interesting, as always! Merci!
you're channel is amazing, thank you for making go more accessible to english speakers!
Nice review !
Thank you for the review, really interesting game, i need to replay it on my goban at a point for sure :D.
When we look at game reviews we often see how AI love thickness so i feel like Shin Minjun have really perfect style for AI era.
watching any of your video always give me the vibe of watching Kdrama and J-Anime at the same time :D and i love it!
great game review!
thank you for the review - amazing as always! so, was the g9 move for black the losing move? ^^
Awesome viseo, as always!
Looks like this year might be very special for top Korean Pros. Shin Mijun won the LG Cup, whereas Shin Jinseo has a very strong chances to win the Chunlan Cup against Tang Weixing and the most prestigious Ing Cup against Xie Ke.
Does it help for Baduk popularization in Korea? I heard that there are less people who plays Baduk in Korea now than it was before, in times of Lee Changho and Cho Hunhyun
I'm from Alaska, and I love your hoodie! Have you ever visited?
Thank you for speeding up the ladder
Very good explaination!-!
17:35 why A19 is not ko thread?
Good question, it's a good ko thread.
I count A19 ko threat as 9 points and the j18 capture as 13 points. White felt that 13 points was less than taking the ko so a 9 point ko threat would not be large enough. Note I am not a very strong player so is just a guess.
Edit: looking at again I realize that A19 would have been more than 9 points if white had answered at J18. So maybe it was just that white could see a clear win by ignoring the last ko threat played and felt it was better to just take the win immediately instead of continuing the ko and possibly making a mistake.
I think it was a threat. Maybe Yeonwoo meant that it was clear Ke Jie would get at least those ten points on the top, so no point continuing the ko.
I think it is, I think it's more that Ke Jie's ko threat wasn't bigger than the ko, not that Shin Minjun didn't have any more ko threats.
By life game for Shin I guess you mean his lifetime masterpiece. ☺
lol i can realy feel Ke Jie's desperation. Shin Minjun is so vicious in this game..
17:37 - I'm still an ametur, but is losing the ko fight really that significant compared to those 6 white stones?
Hi ! Good review, i have a little question about baduk popularity. Baduk is still a popular game in korea and china ? I hope the game increase in popularity in the west and don't fall in the east too
Unfortunately, baduk population is getting less in Korea but still 9miliion..
Do you have any videos that cover Black's cornor joseki (2 space extension from 3-4 point)?
Net yet
tough game for ke jie,his opponent just didnt seem to make any mistakes
Can't watch Ke Jie play. He's alway so fidgety and hectic, curling his hair nervously. This drives me crazy. I first noticed, when he played against Alphago.
올림?
어제커제 울음ㅋㅋㅋㅋ
Have i seen him crying before? No. Nur throwing stones and losing temper.
Kejie cried when AlphaGo defeated him. Kejie did his best and his pride was hurt.
Did shin jinseo participate in this tournament?
Shin Jinseo lost to Ke Jie in the second round, june 2020: you can find the game at go4go.
Yes
Him crying is good for views.
i am from China. Shin minjun performed better than kejie in these games, congrats.Shin is a humble man and a respectable opponent~
Good review but click sounds are too loud!
I always forget to adjust 😔 next time i will try!
who threw Shin Jinseo out? I expected him in the final.
He was defeated by Ke Jie

That was Ke Jie: www.go4go.net/go/games/sgfview/91059
Ke Jie, in the round of 16
Shinjinseo dropped long time ago
I like it when you say 4th of february 2021, and not feb 4th. Even the British detest the American way.
I didn't know that lol
@@goproyeonwoo It would be fine if they would put the year first, like in East-Asian countries, but now it is all mixed up.
can someone explain me please why do they keep capturing each others stone at 16:44 at B7 and B8? isn't that forbidden? I am clearly missing something and would much appreciate an explication, thank you
That's the 'ko' rule. There's a couple slightly different types of ko rules depending on the country/ruleset, but they would both apply the same way here. The important concept is that the board position does not repeat. So one player could not immediately take back the captured stone, because the board would be a repeat of the position from the prior move. Instead, the player can find another part of the board where they can play a move severe enough that it requires a response by the opponent (a ko threat), and that means the board position changes as a result. If the opponent responds to the 'ko threat', now the first player can go back to capture the one stone again, and after that the opponent is the one burdened with finding a 'ko threat'. This bounces back and fourth, and is called a 'ko fight'. It usually ends when one player cannot find a move severe enough that the move forces the opponent to respond, which is what happened to Ke Jie in this game. There are some parts of ko fights that make it harder to judge who is ahead and by how much - the ko threats players come up with can be complicated with their own benefits and losses, and ko threats are rarely urgent moves to begin with so neither player is likely to have spent as much time reading them. So it makes some sense that Ke Jie would try to start one when behind.
After one turn passes you can take back the stone if you like. But than you have to spend another move in order to close it. If it's a key stone, than it would be worth fighting for it. This sequel is called "KO"
It's a ko fight. You can capture back and forth if you make other moves in between each capture. I commented this before but it disappeared. Maybe it was the link, so I'll just advise you to search for ko or ko fight on sensei's library or wherever you like to learn about go.
"Only" 90k usd 🤣🤣
1 dislike from kejie
double chin
Kejie's E8 and Shin-Minjun's O8 surprised me because the moves look a bit slow and as we know, these days top pro players rather choose fast and big moves instead of slow but safe ones.
Btw. Kejie looks to be very nervous guy, he cries, slaps himself, pulls his hair out. I also had the impression once, seeing his reaction after losing a game, that he lacks respect for the opponent because he nervously threw stones and some of them flew to the opponent's side.
