Oh my gawd, such an underrated comment ๐
6:43 FYI, to copy the rotation info from the object to the empty, you can select the empty first, then the object, then right click on the Rotation box and select "Copy All to Selected". You can click on, say, Z, and choose "Copy Single to Selected" if you want to copy only that value. You can do this with almost any setting in the Properties window. You have 100 cubes and only one of them set to "Viewport Display > Display as : Wire"? Select all, that object last so it's active, right click on that dropdown and choose "Copy to Selected" etc. Or you can click on the option while holding Alt, same thing.
Wow! Thank you so much for sharing this ๐

Finally someone speaking on the video. Thank you!
I always wondered why bending and abject has to be so difficult? But finally found the perfect tutorial for this! Thanks for sharing.
Glad to know that it helped you. Cheers!!
You are so right.
love this modifier, I use it all the time, its very usable in your projects.
If you need to rotate the object after bending, there are two ways to do that. One approach is to apply the modifiers that you have added. Now you can rotate the object freely, it won't affect the bending since the bending is now permanent. But a better technique would be like this ๐ Add an empty in the world origin. Then add a Copy Location constraint and a Copy Rotation constraint to the empty. Select the flute as the target object for both of these constraints. Now you can add a Simple Deform modifier and use this empty to bend the flute. You can move or rotate the flute as your wish, the bending won't get distorted. You don't need to apply the modifiers in this case, so your design remains flexible.
I got lost in a first step :D Video tutorial is VERY(!!!) helpful though. I am cheating by selecting both objects and rotating them together.
Please What is the purpose of adding the empty. I bent the scorpion tail i was designing fine without it. I want to know if there's an advantage of adding the empty that I don't know about
@@shaelizadeelizabeth3027 The empty is only required to control the location and the direction of the bend. The empty is needed in most of the cases, but it is not a mandatory thing. If your bend looks ok without the empty, you don't need it. One advantage is, if you rotate or move your object, the bend may change. If you use an empty and rotate or move them together, the bend will still be fine.
Simple Deform Modifier is everything but "simple", at least for me. This tutorial makes it very easy! Thanks a lot!!!!

๐๐๐๐ Thanks! amazing Blender.
๐ Glad it helped ๐๐
Yea this is my favorite blender vid
Thank you so much bro ๐๐๐
Very good explanation, personally I prefer to bend part of the object by bend tool in editing mode. Bend modifier is sure better when you want to bend complex objects.
Anyway, after watching you great geometry node introduction, I wonder if we can bend there? Especially when you can apply (as I learn in the video) on different vertrex groups.
Thanks for liking our tutorials ๐ As far as I know, bending of objects is still not possible using geometry nodes, but I'm sure it is on the way. And I totally agree with you, it will be super fun to work on bending within geometry nodes!
Very good.
Many many thanks ๐๐๐

Amazing Sirโค๏ธ
Thank you ๐๐
Great tutorial, clear, short, explains all but, how to save bend so that it doesen't disapear when object jooined to another mesh?
Glad it helped! You can make the bend permanent by applying the simple deform modifier. It will permanently bend the object so that you can use it anywhere, move it or merge with another mesh.
brilliant, thanks
Glad you liked it!
I LOVE YOU. THANKS!

@@5MinutesBlender You're welcome, these are a great service to Blender novices like me.
very usefull thank you

Glad it helped! ๐๐๐ But why sad?
Instructional video. Well done. Having said that the video also demonstrates how difficult it can be to bend things in blender. Trial and error with three fields and three axis as well as matching all the necessary data from the origin object to simply bend something?
Bending things shouldn't be this hard.
I tend to agree with you on this ๐ I also understand the difficulties in its development. In my opinion, a better tradeoff would be to give an option in the bend modifier, where it shows pictorial options of how something is bent. The user can comfortably choose what he sees. The system can easily do this by computing various results with all possible options. So the system displays, hey look, I can bend it in these available ways, which one do you think looks correct? And the user simply selects the one he needs. That will remove the difficulties on the part of the user, and also the code implementation is very simple. The UI will be little heavy, although manageable. But I think Blender UI is not like this yet.
@@5MinutesBlender interesting idea. I had something similar in mind actually. One day perhaps :)
Damn that's useful
Thank you thank you thank you
Thank you too! ๐๐๐
great thanks when you hit apply for the modifyer of simpledeform it turns flat - why
Please check if you have another modifier or some transformations which are not applied. If you can't figure out what is causing this issue, you can send your blend file to us. I will investigate and let you know. Our contact details are given in the About section of this channel. Thanks!
Your freekin awesome. thank you
Glad to help!
How can I bend a flat model as is around a ball to make part of a shell for something like directional force field models?
I could not perfectly visualize what you are trying to create, specially the later half. Are you trying to wrap a flat plane around a spherical structure? Something like this ๐ czcams.com/video/HqZbZqfP4lg/video.html ?
excellent
Thank you so much ๐๐ Glad it helped you ๐
thanks
Thank you!! This helped me so much. But just a question, do you know how to fix deformation? Because when I move mine it will become distorted or weird.
Hi, please check the pinned comment for the movement. You can move it without any deformation.
@@5MinutesBlender Ok Ty!!
thanks, bud
Glad you liked it ๐
It is possible to stack multiple bend (OR twists) effects with smooth transitions in between? I tried but I got sharp stops between distort effects. Thanks!
Yes it's possible but only in some limited cases, you can check this tutorial ๐ czcams.com/video/wFszsG2GX1M/video.html You can also check our product which makes it far easier ๐ czcams.com/video/okHTUpG_hSA/video.html
@@5MinutesBlender thanks. I will check it.
The end part with the flute, can one solve this issue by simply ctrl+A apply all transformations - so that it's 1.0 ; would the bend then work perfectly?
No, I don't think that will work. However, you can do one thing to make life easier. Add an empty in the world origin. Then add a Copy Location constraint and a Copy Rotation constraint to the empty. Select the flute as the target object for both these constraints. And you are done! Now you can add a Simple Deform modifier and use the empty to bend the flute. The underlying principle still remains same, but this approach has big advantages on the UX front. You can move or rotate the flute at your will, the bending won't get distorted.
@@5MinutesBlender Maybe update this tutorial with that info. That suggestion is preferable, in my opinion.
@@macnavi Very true, but CZcams does not allow us to update the video once published. I will add it as a comment at the top, hope that will help. Thanks for this suggestion ๐
'm following this along with a similar shape but when I add the SimpleDeform modifier, it will only Bend on the Z axis. Nothing happens on both X and Y. Anyone got a clue what I'm doing wrong?
You need to have enough subdivisions along the X or the Y axis in order to have a bend effect in those directions (assuming you have placed the empty etc perfectly).
Very nice
Thank you so much ๐๐
SUPER BRO,I IS EASY
Thank you so much!
New sub!
Thank you so much!
Is there a way to reduce the number of vertices after applying the modifier?
You can use a Decimate modifier, to reduce the number of vertices for any object.
@@5MinutesBlender That worked! Thank you.
So i curved my model, but as soon as i go into editor mode, there's a weird overlay effect and i can only tamper with the model as if it wasn't bent at all
That is the default behavior (modifiers are not effective while in the edit mode) but you can easily change this. In the modifier itself, you will see many icons at the top. One of them (the last from the right side group while going from right to left, or the second icon from the left after the dropdown arrow) is for this purpose, it's titled as "On Cage". If you enable this, you can see the final mesh in the edit mode and that particular modifier will be "editable". I hope it solves your issues.
โ@@5MinutesBlenderThank you! I have one last question. So it's removed the overlay, but there's a strange transparent effect on the model still with black dots all over it. Is that just something I'll have to deal with or can I remove it?
