      Some of my favorite times in the pharmacy were passing scripts around to get a consensus on what they said - it was like a game. I'm still so proud of the time I was the only one who could read that they had put "klonopin wafers" 😅

      @False Flag Dr write gazillion exams throughout their 10yrs+ course due to which they get used to writing super fast which often leads to handwriting mess up. Also, you can't take your sweet time prescribing your 1 patient when 30 more are waiting outside. This too causes misspelling & not super legible handwriting. But nowadays many places are adopting printing prescriptions, that'll help ig but will take more time for sure

    My mom’s a doctor, and hers is so squiggly and curly, more cursive but it’s hard to read, so I can see if my mom was a pharmacist and having that handwriting. Ngl hers would be a straight line.

    I can actually read the doctor's prescription.. the pharmacist looks at me like "are you pursuing medicine ?" . " No, just been in the hospital too many times ..."

    I once asked my mom why she wrote in scribbles when she was giving me my like school notes and stuff for doctors stuff or signing field trip notices and she said it was how adults wrote.

    It’s not “handwriting”, it’s a different script entirely called shorthand. Most doctors learn it in school I imagine to take notes faster.

    I love how some people says "it helps to save time".. yeah, take 35 seconds on a prescription vs 60 makes a huge difference (specially when the prescription is written while docs talk to you)
    I think is just something cultural "always has been done in this way"

    As a new tech, you pick up on the scribble eventually... but when in doubt we pass those things around until someone can read it
    Worst case scenario we call the doctor as ask them wtf is going on

    They are actually trained to read signitures like that to prevent forgery of people trying to get something they don’t need

      That’s...not true at all. Some doctors have really nice handwriting and I’m super impressed by them. Usually prescriptions are typed and then signed or printed on paper with watermarks. It’s like the longer you’re in school the worse your handwriting becomes. 🤣

    i believe Dr's handwriting is so bad on prescriptions is because they are hiding the fact that they can't spell what they are prescribing. And who can blame them.

    In our country, pharmacists can report a physician who wrote an illegible prescription. Multiple offenses can be grounds for loss of license.

      I have received hundreds of calls from pharmacies looking to "clarify directions"
      They were being nice. There were no directions.

      @@jdstearman yes. I realize this. I’m a pharmacy tech and have called many times on behalf of my pharmacist. 9/10 times staffing is very nice. Once received a prescription that was written and signed by a certified medical assistant. No supervising doctor on rx and signed cmp. My pharmacist was scratching his head. And it occurred to me, that a class mate of mine was a medical assistant. That was when I realized it wasn’t written by a doctor.
      I’ve only experienced that one time in the last 3 years.

      For now. I believe new legislation was just passed (not sure if this is federal or state) that will require all RX's to be electronic by 2023 with exceptions (vet's offices for example). A lot of pain clinics, certain hospital depts, and psych docs still use Rx pads. It's such a pain in the ass with paper copies and makes tracking controlled substances so much harder than if you were to have an electronic record.

    In this part of the world the pharmacist plays a guessing game where they look at what clinic it is, tries guessing the diagnosis, uses the 2 letters they understood and maybe ask the patient if they know how the pills looked and they hit it accurately

    prob said percocet. why would someone write a prescription for tylenol.....unless it was #3. but in this sick world, someone who should have percocet would end up being given tylenol instead. ridiculous.

    Can't believe doctors are still handwriting scripts. Have they not heard of a computer and printer? My doctor would have to be the most old-school doctor you could find (but the kind you'd want to go to), but even he 'writes' his scripts using a computer and printer.
