    It's a nice idea, but I can knock together my own jigs from scraps of wood in about 1/2 hour. I tend to think accuracy in bricklaying doesn't come from the precision of the mortar per se, but from the installer ensuring the bricks are correctly positioned. This device just helps keep things neater for people with little experience.

    I bought a Bricky to help build a wall, it won't build the wall for you, you still need to set up the corners, string line and use a spirit level to check the wall is level and plumb. The Bricky makes it easier to apply an even bed of mortar and butter the ends of the bricks.

      The holes are there to make it easier to fire the brick (i.e. bake it) more evenly. The marginal extra strength if these bricks were filled with mortar is totally unnecessary.

    • @bartbuckland6805
      @bartbuckland6805 Před 7 lety

      No where near as strong as modern engineering. I have been in the bricklaying trade for 25 years. I have taken down those old bricks you think are so great. They come apart easily. The modern engineered structures are 10 times harder to take apart. The old bricks come apart easily once a starting hole is made. The new stuff is a bastard from first brick to last.

    • @bartbuckland6805
      @bartbuckland6805 Před 7 lety +1

      Filling the holes makes the structure stronger. In a perfect scenario, the holes are filled half way when the brick is pressed into the mortar bed and the other half is filled while spreading the mortar for the next course. This makes the wall 10 times stronger.

    If anyone thinks you can build a house out of this toy you are off your head, head height for doorway are 2100mm that's 28 courses of bricks, if the bricks are 62 mm the bed is 13 mm if the bricks are 68 The the bed is 7mm.All bricklayers will work to gauge, 75/150/ 225/300 also the same applies to the horizontal 225/ 450/675 if a brick is 212 mm the perp is made to 13 to get 225, if long i.e. 217 the perp is 8mm.Using this tool on bricks that and I have used bricks which are 62 mm with a 10mm bed I would be 3mm short, over 28 courses I would be 84mm 3x28= 84 mm, garden walls and other small builds it's ok, what I don't like is the way they try to pass over that you can build your own house.I hear people say that beds and perps should be 10mm, on a house or any building a person who knows what they are doing will work to gauge, if the beds are thick and the perps are thick you work to gauges.Also the ties in the building can be level or slightly angling out to the outer leaf, how would the angle be when you use this tool.I think it's a good tool for doing garden walls etc, next time you look at bricks take the dimension and ask yourself how can you make a gauge to work out, you have 2 choises 1) purchase bricks with depth of 65mm and length of 215 mm 2) keep a eye on gauge and either open or tighten up on vertical and horizontal gauge.Again I'm not saying it's a bad tool it's the way it's put over that it faster than a bricklayer and you can do your own house

There is no easy way to lay brick. You have to practice and in a few years you will know enough about the craft to build something on your own. Because the mortar doesn't go into the holes like typical slashing, it's not strong

      I'd rather use a skate wheel or wire brush when tooling rake joints. Round or weather joint will last longer though

      It wouldn't work if you use london bricks because the mortar wouldn't get into the frog on the bottom of the brick so wouldn't be any suction to keep it in place and what about bricks that are mis shaped all the things it wouldn't work with

    ... I built a whole house using this tool, after a month along came a wolf, huffed and puffed and blew the house down. So I paid for a proper builder to do the job.

    Had to laugh at this i done building and brickwork for 7+ years it doesn't mention anything about making sure the bricks are level and plumb the time it takes messing about with the guides and stuff you could have a full course laid it also mentions build a consevatory base what about damp course, wall ties and other important things like foundations i wouldn't waste my money
