  • Luckily it stayed dry for the first day of the Gala. Today we saw all the locos actively taking part in the Gala pass through Crowcombe Heathfield station. An exception is the 1873 saddle tank which is not touring this part of the line.

    Great video...loved the sound of the Hall arriving and departing Crowcombe. Very spirited.. also the blackbird singing in the background makes you realise spring is here at last. Thank you both.

    Another great video Mike. The next best thing to being down there is to sit and watch your offerings. Having said that, weather permitting, we plan on coming down for the day on Sunday.

    Thank-you Mike and Val another great watch , we do enjoy your work, listening also to the birds songs was lovely as its a passion of ours, we have the Merlin app on our phone, it's free wondered if you or val had it as it identifies the birds that are singing around you, nice to see all the flowers and to see the trees finally in leaf, hope your both keeping well, Julie and Gary Smith .

    That was an excellent watch! So good after all the bad weather to have a lovely day for the steam fest! Packed full of trains & passengers!
    Loved to hear all the different birds singing in the morning& so nice to see the new raised beds there& the beautiful rhododendron blossom
    And you were recognised too! I liked the way Val pointed you out to the station worker & took a photo of you taking a video of her( & the engine) And is it me or is it amusing to see the hardcore train buffs jumping out of 1 train to either catch another or get a glimpse of something very important all equipped with backpacks?
    Anyway it did look very well organised( probably a lot of hair pulling out behind the scenes)
    Thanks Mike - I enjoyed it!

    I notice that the sign at the station says that the line was converted from broad to standard gauge in 1892. While this was true of the main line, the West Somerset Railway was converted from broad to standard gauge earlier -- over the weekend of 28 to 30 October 1882.

    Mike, great video, especially from about 28:00. Excellent clear videography with a wide variety of locos, and funnel first to boot, given the railway was apparently using Norton Fitzwarren's trainable plus the Minehead turntable.
    It was only the first day of your Bank holiday weekend but patronage seemed only moderate, although there might be some who started at Minehead and kept changing trains at Blue Anchor or Williton, so we don't see those patrons in this video.

    We've got our Heritage Steam Festival very soon ... at Thirlmere NSW ... guess who will be going there ..! Some great classics will be running I believe... should be fun 😂

  • @janinapalmer8368
    @janinapalmer8368 Před měsícem

    Wow 🥹..!! It's all happening at Crowcombe hey ... so many new locos too... I've already seen that Mayflower engine and two little black engines going through Blue Anchor ( on their camera that runs 24/7 on you tube ) I wish there could be more of these cameras ... there is only one other one and that's where this video was made .. Crowcombe... but it's terrible ... no audio and picture quality is poor and it keeps dropping out ..
    There was one engine that puzzled me .. 1053 I think .. as it did not appear to have any pistons on it ...where are they ... if they put them underneath then that leaves very little room ..apart from being far more difficult to service ...
    It was a great video as always ... much appreciated Mike ...I loved the sounds of the birds too... Is it getting warmer ... I noticed several guys in shorts 😀

    • @ADMIRALSCORNER
      @ADMIRALSCORNER  Před 23 dny

      Luckily the weather is currently getting better at last! The loco has pistons inside the frame rather than externally.

    I watched some of the trains on the web cam that day, surprised i didn't notice you. I think they have a wasp nest nesr the camera at Crowcombe, all you can see is lots of black dots wizzing past the camera.

    • @ADMIRALSCORNER
      @ADMIRALSCORNER  Před 23 dny

      Yes I've seen that too. They weren't so obvious when looking across the platforms.

    Interesting film, but does anyone really like seeing a B1 in that light green colour all the time? How I yearn to see one as they were during the last 20 years of BR, the way we all remember them.

    That's what we call a Webb Coal Tank Engine. Basically, the theme was God's Wonderful Railway with two LNER engines to mix things up a bit. I don't just love God's Wonderful Railway, LNER and LMS steamies come joint second underneath in my book. I also love Standard engines and Industrials. I've at last been able to pick a favourite LNER tank engine: the J72. Any favourite LNER steamies for you and Val?
