About the song "Rechenka": This is an old ritual song about an orphan bride. The girl has no parents. The river was considered the boundary between the world of the living and the dead. She goes to the river and asks for the blessing of marriage. She says that there are many people at home, but there is no father and mother. You hear Diana singing in a whisper. These are the words of the deceased mother of the bride. Then the girl is crying. In Russia, at weddings they sang sad songs to scare away evil and the marriage of a young couple was to be happy. Such songs were called “weeping.” The figures behind Diana are spirits of water and forest.

Your astonishment is not exceptional! Diana is an unique contralto (dramatic contralto) her comfort range is C3-C6 but in constant evolution. Diana uses many vocal techniques rarely used in pop music (like overtones, yodel, and some from lyric chant....). The one that seems to amaze people the most is multitonal (polyphonic) voice. The root notes are enriched with powerful harmonics which can give the impression that there are several overlapping voices or an artificial effect which gives this result.
This technique is used in Slavic folk music, like Bulgarian vocal groups or artists like Pelageya (czcams.com/users/OlegSemyonov73videos), the Russian folk diva. I cannot tell you exactly how these artists achieve this result, I was just told that it is linked to the simultaneous use of the different resonators of the human body and that such a mastery of the voice and of the breath with such a fluidity requires years of work, Diana has been singing on stage and has been taking singing and performing arts lessons since the age of 6!
She has become famous in the broadcast "You're Great!" ("You are Super"), a song contest reserved for children who have had a difficult start in life. This is the case of Diana who was mistreated and ended up in an orphanage at 3 years old.
In her shows, Diana participates in the direction, direction and arrangements of her performances. She is a complete artist.
In addition, until the recent past her costumes were often designed and sewn by her mother and grandmother since she was 5.

THE STORY
"A young orphan girl is being given away in marriage to the unloved. She goes to the river (a portal between the living and dead) to ask her dead mothers’ blessings for a marriage that will not be a happy one.
The spooky voice is her dead mum answering back! The mood of the song changes and we hear her young girlfriends in the yard playing and laughing, asking why the girl is so sad?
Then she cries uncontrollably. She is lifted into the boat to be taken to her wedding with resignation for a sad life."

@@grieverproductions2022 It's because Diana really "isn't there" when she sings such songs! She goes into a sort of trance and allows the song to completely take over! Watch her very closely and you'll witness this phenomenon. Diana admitted this in an interview. She described it as "being somewhere else" and how sometimes it can take her several minutes to regain full control again. Her ability to convey raw emotions across to the listener is down to this, as if she lives the song feeling all the pain and emotions as if it he story were about herself! Her extremely sad but inspiring childhood provided her with all the understanding about pain, tragedy and strong emotions she now has of course.

A singing teacher once commented on this song that if he wrote down all the singing techniques Diana uses here, he would have a list of all the singing techniques.
The song is about an orphan who is about to get married and goes to the river to talk to her parents and ask for their blessing. The river is the connection to the world of the dead. The celebration can be heard in the background. That's the swinging part of the music. You probably already know that Diana was in an orphanage. It seems to be her song. Hence all the emotions she expresses admirably here. Diana's acting, the scenery, the dancers. This is musical theatre - at its best.

There is a new TV show in Russia. There are 9 weeks with 9 shows and 9 well known artists. Diana is the youngest artist. They had to sing songs from 9 genres. The last TV show was on 20. November 2021. The 9 artists are also the judges for the other singer. And Diana (18 yo) won the overall competition of which Diana won 4 and took 2nd place once. She shocked the other singers with the first song. The Crow was her masterpiece in this competition, in my opinion. The judge who stands up is the great opera singer Yusif Eyvazov and the husband of Anna Netrebko, who is world famous. He's very impressed.

Greetings, happy to see yet another Diana reaction video so fast. Imagine if Diana and Dimash had a collaboration together! Two such an angelic voices with a unique approach towards music, their way of storytelling with not just words and voice but as well their body and face expressions. It would be such a mesmerising duet. For the next Diana reaction video I would definitely recommend her unique cover of Can't help falling in love. She made so many interesting twists in her cover, I'm sure you won't regret watching it!

Diana Ankudinova was 14 years old when her performance of Rechenka was recorded on May 12, 2018, during a program called You Are Super, a vocal competition for disadvantaged teens. It is already evident she is well on a path to becoming a true contralto voice and a true contralto is very, very rare. Some people are really curious about Diana’s vocal range, in 2017, her vocal range was measured from a low of D3 to a high of A5. As of September 2021, her lower functional range was measured from a low of C3 to a high of B♭5, meaning Diana currently has almost a 3-octave range.
it's not just about how low she can go, it's the exceptional quality of her tone in her lower range. It's the roundness, the fullness, and the depth of her voice, along with her ability to create and access an enormous amount of resonance that many vocal professionals define Diana as a "dramatic contralto", which is the rarest of the rare contralto voice types.
So, the question becomes, how does Diana do it? How can such a young female singer achieve such a low, rich, deep, resonant, and profound sound? Without being able to scope her vocal tract while she is actually producing those low notes to see what is really happening, the general conciseness again of many vocal professionals seems simply to attribute Diana’s unique vocal ability to her winning the genetic lottery, meaning she was just born with unique vocal anatomy. Diana’s vocal folds, (vocal cords), appear to be longer and thicker than most other female singers. Her larynx also appears to be larger and her pharynx similarly appears to be longer than other female singers. It’s this unique vocal anatomy that gives Diana Ankudinova the ability to produce those low, deep, rich, full sounds that along with her unique tone quality and her ability to access an enormous reservoir of resonance make her stand out, but without actually scoping her vocal track, there is no way to be 100% sure.
But it’s more than just being born with unique vocal anatomy, it’s that Diana knows how to use it. It’s in her musicality and stage presence. It’s her ability to step into a character on stage and not just sing a song, but her ability to capture the audience and actually communicate with them on a personal level. Diana Ankudinova also sang these 3 additional cover songs during the 2018 season competition of You Are Super I’m sure you will find them interesting: February 10, 2018, Dernière Danse, April 14, 2018, It's a Man's Man's Man's World, and May 25, 2018 (Season finale) Tomorrow is a Lie. The heroine of this song is an orphan girl who is being raised in someone else's family.
Once upon a time, such orphans were married off as quickly as possible so as not to feed an extra mouth. Naturally, they gave her in marriage almost to the first person who wanted to marry her. Nobody asked the orphan if she agreed, if she was ready. Therefore, the girl is in fear. She is afraid of a new life. What will this life be like? And she goes to the river, to talk to the river (because she has no one else to open her soul to), and with her friends, to cry, to complain about her grief and her fear. She tells the river that the river flows very smoothly, does not worry, there are no ripples and waves on it. The river asks the girl, "child, why are you sitting and not smiling?" And the girl replies that she has no reason to be happy and smile. That they had already come for her to end her childhood and take her into a difficult adult life. A house full of guests, a yard full of horses. And she has neither father nor mother. And there is no one to bless her, so that there is luck, and the marriage turned out to be good. The girl wants to escape from a difficult fate, so that the river will take her away from here. She gets into a boat and the river carries her.

This is an old ritual song about an orphan bride. The girl has no parents. The river was considered the boundary between the world of the living and the dead. ( thank you "encrypter 46" ! ) Especially poignant, as Diana was abandoned as a child and raised in a Russian orphanage......Diana is a natural Contralto which, as you know, is the lowest female vocalist's register

Yeah I know, the issue I have is that CZcams gets very annoyed if the songs don't get stopped frequently. In fact putting this up at all was a hassle and was originally blocked worldwide until I disputed it. If I hadn't had so many breaks in the music it wouldn't have been able to be viewed at all unfortunately!

A few people have commented the translation so far so I get what you mean here. It reminds me very much of the theme song for the old show M*A*S*H*. The music sounds incredibly happy but once you look into the lyrics, it takes on an incredibly different meaning!
