Here are three reasons why Diana (the Queen of Goosebumps) doesn't sound human. First, she is a contralto, which is the absolute rarest type of female voice. It allows her to sing very dramatic/powerful, very (I mean VERY) deep, very dark, very rich. Second, she has a spectacular larynx. She's been called the vocal Eighth Wonder of the World. Third, she is polyphonic, which means she can produce multiple harmonics within her voice at the same time. This is what allows her to sound like two people at once. (more below) When you add all that up you basically get a person who creates her own auto-tune. She doesn't need electronic auto-tune. She IS her own auto-tune. And the effect when you hear her is totally mind-blowing. It's like she's singing right through you, like a sword straight into your soul. Literally NOBODY else on the planet has a voice like hers. She's not one in a million, she's one in seven billion.
You make a phenomenal point. Honestly I didn't even think about her being Polyphonic but you're absolutely right. The voice is crazy and I absolutely love it!

Greetings from Scotland! Deep timbre is a natural comfort zone for Diana You will not hear another singer with Diana's low notes AND incredible vocal agility! This was 15yo Diana singing in an amazing Russian project "You're Super" for abandoned/disadvantaged children because Diana spent some years in an orphanage when she was 3yo. She is a natural *dramatic contralto* (VERY deep!) which is rare in females but exceptionally rare in someone so young! Diana was born way over in the far eastern side of Russia in Primorsky Territory, northeast of Vladivostok. Her adoptive family moved to Togliatti, in western Russia near the Volga River then after Igor Krutoy (a famous (DIMASH?) composer/producer) gifted Diana an apartment in Moscow she moved there and still lives there! It made it easier for her to study at GITIS International, the largest and oldest theatrical State Institution in Russia. She has an extensive entry in Wikipedia now which explains her sad early childhood. But you pleasantly surprised me, this is the best analysis in recent times. Diana is able to surprise you more than once if you continue to get to know her. There have been cases when Diana gave interviews to bloggers, I advise you to try to do it. Some difficulty may arise in the language barrier. Good luck.

Welcome to the world of this insanely talented young Russian lady, Diana Ankudinova. She's next level. Never known anyone like her in my 50+ years on this earth. And she was just 15 here (now 19). She has a lot of songs - originals and covers - so you are in for an amazing journey! She is the consummate artist but also a very beautiful person (with a tragic backstory). I would recommend Rechenka, Dernier Danse (both performed around the age of 14), and also The Crow and Can't Help falling in Love (both age 18) but really there are man more that could be recommended. Don't worry about only just finding out about her. Thank you for letting more people know about her.

Also, Diana's CZcams channel usually has human-translations into English. which is useful for her Russian-Language songs and for English captions to judge's reactions when she sings in competitions. (The Kwstas Vagias CZcams channel is an excellent legitimate source for all of her songs from the "You Are Super" competition.)

She was only 14 years old at this performance, .Diana is a true contralto. To truly appreciate her unique voice, You really MUST read her incredible back story. It will make you cry and laugh with joy at the obstacles she has overcome. Abused and abandoned by her mother on the street with a broken Collar bone, Diana was left speechless at age 2 or 3. It was recommended tht only music would help her heal.
Fast forward to age 12/13 and her performance of Edith Piaf's WWII classic 'Non Je Ne Regrette Rien' followed immediately on the same track with 'Yodel'. Then just to be flabbergasted even more, Listen to her sing the Russian classic 'Rechenka' (The River). Diana is truly an awesome young lady.
BTW< the last person to hit their button is Igor Krutoy, Famed Russian composer and performer who just happens to be the main influence in Dimash's life.

Also if you want to listen just Diana and a small stage (she often performs there). No effects or stage set. Nothing. “Just” a heavy and melancholic song from (as I understood) a great Russian poet/singer. It’s a phenomenal interpretation.

Oh my, thank you so much. I am just your average guy doing some reaction videos with the goal of sharing what I know. I am truly humbled that this video has reached so far and wide in such a small amount of time and would love to personally thank each and every one of those people personally If I had the time and ability to do so!
I do a lot of this not so much for the exposure of myself but to teach those around the world the little bits and pieces that I know. In no way will I be correct on everything but if I'm corrected, then I am also learning. When it comes to music, the learning process never truly ends and it's what makes it so beautiful and hearing such incredible unique voices like this... God, it makes it all so worth it!!

As magnificent as her Wicked Game performance is, there is an even better one that, as a vocal coach, will absolutely stun you. I urge you to watch her performance of Rechenka at age 14 on the first season of the You Are Super show (Wicked Game was second season at age 15), where her wide range of vocal techniques is on full display. As your audience may or may not know, Diana Ankudinova was only 13 old in 2017 when she first had her vocal range measured. Her vocal range at that time went from a low of D3 to a high of A5. She was 14 during the 2017 season of "You Are Super", a vocal competition for disadvantaged teens that she won. Diana was 15 years old when the “Wicked Game” performance took place during the 2019 season of a talent show for disadvantaged teens called “You Are Super” which Diana again ended up winning. Her performance of the Chris Izaak classic "Wicked Game", really demonstrates Diana Ankudinova is well on her way to developing into a true contralto, which I'm sure you know, is a very, very rare female voice type. In particular, the quality of her tone, her timbre, the roundness, fullness the depth of her sound, her ability to access a ton of resonance help to further define her as a "dramatic contralto", the rarest of the rare contralto voice types. For someone as young as Diana to already demonstrate the onset of this ability at such a young age is both impressive, and extraordinary!
Diana has said she was not happy with her lack of a higher vocal range and it kept her out of the more prestigious vocal academies. It was after several rejections that she decided along with her voice teacher to really concentrate on improving her higher range which can be heard when you listen to her cover of “Can’t Help Falling In Love” the Elvis Presley classic which she recorded 4 years after Wicked Game in 2021 at age 18 during another vocal competition called, “TheShowMaskGoOn!”. It was during this performance that her range was again measured and she now has a functional range from a low of C3 to a high of B♭5. As a side note, Diana Ankudinova won this competition.
Diana is also a polyphonic singer which in itself is an extremely rare talent for someone so young to have mastered. Polyphonic singing is a vocal technique that creates one or two, and sometimes three different tones at the same time which adds to the harmonic overtones and undertones which can make it sound like two different voices singing at the same time. This polyphonic sound is why some people think she is using a voice synthesizer or pitch correction software to manipulate her sound, or there's another voice singing off stage, or she is lip-syncing over a previously recorded vocal track. There is no electronic voice manipulation of any kind going on with her voice at all. What you are hearing is all and only Diana Ankudinova.
To get an idea of Diana's vocal progression until now, I recommend you listen to the following performances. There are a lot of other live performances, some are competitions and others are public concert performances. Listen to them in the following order:

Diana was 18 when the “ShowMaskGoOn!”, this vocal competition was recorded live in 2021. This is the performance that shows that after several years of working to improve her upper range she reveals what she has accomplished.

There are other performances done in her home studio that are stripped down without any of the major flash or production values of competitions or concerts. These home-recorded videos were done during the COVID lockdowns, but I’m sure you will still enjoy them.
