Thank you for confirming if a brick wall/surge X type device affects the sounds. I’ve been wanting to install a surge X eliminator series for my equipment, to sequence it and protect but I always worried it would alter the sound I spent so much effort perfecting.
In your case, you mention, it made the sound warmer, so I think I won’t take a chance and I will just go the whole house surge protection route and lose the sequencing benefit of a Surge X eliminator. Can’t take a chance with my sound 😬
Surgex's Eliminator series uses MOVs. The Surgex ''Series Mode'' does not work in the same way at all and uses similar technology to ZeroSurge and BrickWall.
Your serie does not use the same protection mode and will not have the same performance as those in ''Serie Mode''.
Instead of relying on another opinion, listen to it yourself to get a fair idea. Most people won't see any difference with a blind test...
Btw I’m not sure about your specific power network in your house but even if you have whole house surge protection, which I do too, but you will still have small surges and fluctuations as well as a bit of emi from all of the components hooked up to your power system and your whole house surge protector only protects the incoming power to the main panel but all of your devices and the micro surges and voltage fluctuations as well as emi they create, you would still benefit from a zerosurge or something similar. In fact that’s their exact purpose as end point device surge protectors/filters/voltage regulators to ensure your devices are receiving clean power despite the fluctuations and noise that would occur.
I decided to forego the Brickwall (made by ZeroSurge) surge protector and go with a SurgeX SA-20 20-amp surge protector and love it!
The “Series Mode” technology of SurgeX is the same as that of ZeroSurge. It was the founder of ZeroSurge, Rudy Harford, who invented the technology and filed the patents that SurgeX, ZeroSurge, and BrickWall still use.
I use this TrippLite as my line noise suppressor. I like it because it doesn’t have a cord that will weaken the signal.
I use the highest quality cable to go in my pure silver power distributor.
I tweak it by putting an obsidian crystal tower to reduce noise even more.
I have owned several of the Zero-Surge units like your Brick House. I was lucky to get them new shipped for $90 each shipped.
I also got some custom made Zero-Surge rack mount 220vac units that I am converting. Those were $600 a piece and got them brand new for $100 shipped... super nice! I plug in my Zero-Surges 1st.. I go to a APC battery back up... Then I hit a Tripp-Lite Line interactive voltage corrector, LC1200. It has relays so it doesn't bother me... but everytime my fridge or A/C unit cycles that Tripp-Lite instantly corrects the voltage and relays click on and off. THIS IS NORMAL. Another awesome greatness with the LC1200 is it also has the great EMI/RFI filtering that Tripp-Lite is known for... All this for my computer system. For audio... If you use a Tripp-Lite Line Corrector they now make them for up to 2400 watts... so use that on an amplifier. Don't forget to use Tharbamar links above to show him some love!
Series mode suppression circuits use an inductor to suppress the surge current (> 60Hz) before diverting the remainder into the capacitor. This additional inductance in front of the power amp PSU is likely the reason for the change in sound you noted. However, only linear PSU's are affected in this way due to being voltage regulated devices (voltage has a relationship with inductance). As you may know, switch mode power supplies are effectively immune to voltage variation and thus series mode surge suppression will be audibly transparent to them. This is a point in favor of class D, as SMPS can be protected without suffering the audible degradation voltage regulated A/B designs invariably will.
Thank you for sharing.
I have a brickwall in my system since 2002.
Thanks Tharbamar for sharing ! Happy listening 👍
Thankyou
I agree with you Tharbamar; plugging into the wall delivers more clarity and dynamics. However, I'm not sure how much protection my Amplifier's fuse and built-in protection circuit -given it has one- could provide.
I wonder if there is a product out there that could protect your equipment from surges without altering the current/signal...
Best solution is have your own whole house transformer and whole house surge protection like this amzn.to/3aFq6RX.
What is the brand name of the white power box with individual switches? what is their company website? thanks.
GTT Electronics AC Power Distributor.
I have 2 AT2505 Amplifiers that each require their own 20 amp circuit. I doubt these would work for them.
All my amps plug into the wall outlet, I do not use surge protector for amplifiers.
@@Tharbamar may i ask why amps don't need to be plugged to surge protector or conditioner?
@alexanderg26 Most AVR won’t make difference but for high current amps it is very noticeable in dynamics, sound stage and authoritative sound reproduction when it was plugged into wall outlet than power conditioners or the surge protectors.
@@Tharbamar ahh i see. thanks for the reponse. keep up the good content. i watch alot of review on youtube and i appreciate your mellow approach. very relaxing, just like the music you demo.
@@Tharbamar But won't the amp be fried if there is a surge if its not in an protecter?
Can you review the RTR Eviction series Ev15 ?
Hello thank you for your wonderfull demos, one year ago you had a speaker demo of wharfdale diamond 225 , i am looking for an amplifier with usb and bluetooth with a warm sound.
Thinking of a marantz n 1200.
What is your opinion abouth this and which is a good competitor?
Greetings richard from holland
Hi Richard, Marantz NR1200 should be very good match with D225 speakers and you can also try TEAC 500 series, thanks
Dear Tharbamar I am one of your fan thank you for your videos all of them are useful ...
Now I need your help I am using svs wireless soundpath with powered speaker for rear and working good wirelesly but I dont know how to change binding post for atmos speaker to RCA to use the wireless soundpath with it please tell me what I have to do
Hi Mohammed, sorry for late reply.
Base on your explanation all you need is this: amzn.to/39C7uS7
Let me know how it goes, thanks
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
For example if you have oppo 205, which one will be your choice? Yamaha as2100 or denon pma 2500ne .. thanks thanks
