- The Blart quintet are back for a ninth year. Nothing will stop them from their annual watch and review of BP:MC2, not an industry-wide strike, not a lack of enthusiasm for the film. In this refreshingly straight-laced approach at the material, all five reviewers have remained (mainly) sober and checked in. This mentally sharp environment has allowed for a Griffin-Timbo mindmeld to explore the possible religious and philosophical ramifications of Paul fighting a bird in a fake garden setting to piano music. Travis is attempting to explain to his child that this movie IS a comedy. Guy is quick to defend the Toyota Yaris. And Justin has once again figured out a way to turn the watch into a joyful experience while watching shirtless in bed.

oh absolutely. I have listened in year in and year out and I plan to never see it.
My plan is to watch it either when they bail out on a 10x, or, um, the first "roster change".

At first I thought the pixelated background was kind of distracting and then I realized it’s the full movie Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 and that’s my new favorite thing

I asked them at their Comic Con Q&A panel this year about death blart things forgetting about the strike and I THINK my question might have been the first moment they realized that them not doing the podcast was a possibility this year and Griffin's panic was extremely palpable. Have we considered that the movie is not a movie at all, and that instead Paul is in a cycle of rebirth wherein each time we rewatch the movie he, in real time, is reborn and must once again overcome this ordeal?

Did the "commentary track" episode threaten your vow at all? That was the point at which I finally caved.
@@Poplopo I think I lightly considered breaking the vow for that but in the end I knew it was something I could never undo. If I watch this film, I'll never again experience the weirdness of having a movie I've never seen described so passionately every year.

the bad afterlife that guy purposes is actually fucking chilling. the bird is perpetually bleeding out, the cold, blue stars above never move, and you're just kinda there to reflect on your actions for eternity. can you IMAGINE the ice that would shoot thru your veins when the piano man stands up, looks at the dying bird, looks back at you, says "that wasn't the solution" AND THEN FUCKING VANISHES?? AND TAKES THE ABILITY FOR THINGS TO CHANGE WITH HIM??? the fiction created by these good good boys is evocative as hell and UTTERLY terrifying.

Genuine question because I'm actually confused: why would the SAG-AFTRA strike prohibit them from making Death Blart this year? As I understood it, SAG members on strike couldn't act in or promote new material, and Paul Blart Mall Cop 2 came out in 2015.
the messaging from the union was a bit unclear on how this applied to online creators, but as far as i know the strike also covered promoting past works
