      Question: When rooting the strands, is it best to leave them in full sun or does it need more indirect light? (I’ve trained mine to handle full sun and I live in Arizona state.)

      @@bexmac8136 Monitor them and see how they go. Generally cuttings need more TLC than the plants themselves. If they are struggling, then give them a bit of shade :)

    Hey! Hoping you see this. I’m having a little trouble w my Ruby Necklace. It’s actually doing pretty okay but I tend to obsess the second I see a problem. I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong.
    1. The light. I have it indoors, pushed up to a window that faces west, BUT we have trees outside that actually provide a lot of shade for this window. Im wondering if it’s not getting enough sun. BUT I just watched one video that said to not give it a ton of sun and another that said to put it outdoors. (Thanks internet for always being contradicting 😅)
    2. I received it in Feb. Repotted into terracotta. It dries out super fast. Like it shrivels up and needs water really often. When that happens I lose a strand or two. The soil it came in from the nursery is super course though.
    3. It’s just not doing much, leaves aren’t very fat, there’s new growth but it’s not super filled out (it’s an 8 in plant) maybe a little leggy.
    I’ve heard that acclimation can take a year or more so I’m wondering if it’s that, combined with too much shade in the window. It was fairly damaged from shipping in a snow storm.
    Sorry this is SO long winded. I just really want this plant to be happy and it’s actually been hard to find info that’s not contradicting.

      Hi Peggy, thanks for your message.
      1. They do like a fair bit of lights, lots of morning sun is best. If you notice the leaves and strands stretching, then it's a sign that it isn't getting enough light. It will do better outdoors, but if you can provide plenty of direct sun through a window for it, it will be ok.
      2. Yes terracotta is porous and will help the potting mix to dry really fast. Ruby Necklace do enjoy extra water than most Succulents. You may need to increase your watering or add extra water holding material e.g. peat moss or coir or change it into a plastic pot or terracotta pot, that has been glazed and sealed to hold the water for longer.
      3. So it definitely sounds like it needs more water. Add something extra material to the potting mix, increase the light for it and see how that goes :)
      Hope that helps :D

    I collected some ruby necklace leaves and potted them in cutting and seed raising medium. They are all plum and firm but when I I pulled one out, I noticed it grew quite a long roots however it didn’t seem to grow any young leaves. Please let me know if and how I can propagate ruby necklace from leaves?

    • @mickssucculents
      @mickssucculents  Před 2 lety

      Hi Sun, thank you :) I haven't tried growing them from leaves before. I do cuttings and it works really well. They are a very fast grower and don't take long to strike roots from a cutting. Maybe give that a go and see if you get better results :)

    • @mickssucculents
      @mickssucculents  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Ruby, yes I would give them a mist spray probably everyday to every second day is fine. They don't take long to strike roots 🙂👍

    Do these like moist soil mines in bonsai jack mix an it’s dry

    • @mickssucculents
      @mickssucculents  Před rokem

      They actually do like extra water. If you have it in a bonsai pot, then I'd place a dish underneath to trap water.

      @@mickssucculents would you water them as often indoors? I have a small terra cotta planter and want them to cascade.. I know you mentioned they do better outside. I have them close to a south eastern window

    • @mickssucculents
      @mickssucculents  Před 3 lety +3

      @@MountainsnVallies I would only water when the potting mix is dry. It should still take the mix longer to dry being inside compared to outside. If they are able to get a couple of hours through the window, that may be ok. If they start to stretch and lose their compactness, then they are saying they need more light :)

      @@MountainsnVallies hi! I don't know if this is helpful now, it's been four months since you asked the question but I also got a small plant in a small terracotta pot, about 7 cm wide, and I water mine when the "pickles" feel soft. I live in Sweden so I keep it indoors and it's in a southwest facing window.
