    "no having an enormous grinder in your kitchen your partner's going to get so annoyed with that they're going to leave you" 😄😄 starting to get into speciality coffee I definitely start to see where's this is going from hahaha. Otherwise, you resumed things very well..indeed the convenience is the ultimate weapon and reason of success of pods in general, Nespresso in particular.

      It always amazes me how much mess is made just making one espresso based drink in your own kitchen! Nespresso may not taste as good, but it is miles more convenient for the casual coffee fan. JP

    Nice review of the pods …. Odd to see how dark the roasts were inside, surprising … maybe it’s harder to get light roasts to work in pods ?

    • @TheCoffeeChannel
      @TheCoffeeChannel  Před 2 lety

      I think pods work at very high extraction levels, so the roast needs to be darker to make it work.

    Great video! This is the first time I've ever heard of specialty coffee for Nespresso machines. Sadly these brands aren't sold in the Netherlands where I'm from. What I'm wondering is if there are any specialty coffee brands that sell in the Netherlands (or at least are based in the EU so I don't have to pay all kinds of import taxes etc.). I'd love to hear from you or anyone that knows!

      HI, You can try The Barn - based in Berlin.

      Thanks for the quick response! Great suggestion as well, but sadly they charge a huge amount for shipping unless u buy in very large quantities. I'd be happy to hear about any other places u know about though :).
      In the meantime I've found two other places that sell specialty coffee, one in the Netherlands near me called Boot Koffie and one in Belgium called Godin Coffee Roastery. The one in Belgium charges a low amount for shipping and has a lot of specialty coffee options, even for Nespresso machines. To me they seem like two very good options to try. I'd love to hear what u think! Cheers

    This is a useful video. I have just received my first beans from Horsham so looking forward to trying them.
    I also have a Creatista Pro machine for quick coffees and have been using Illy and Nespresso pods in it and have yet to find something that I like. My drink of choice is Flat White.
    Do you think the Horsham Rwanda pods would work in a flat white and any tips for brewing? Would you use two shots instead of one? Also, do you think these pods are a step up from the Nespresso branded ones? Keep up the good work!

    • @TheCoffeeChannel
      @TheCoffeeChannel  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi, The Horsham pods are much better than the standard Nespresso ones (assuming that you like a lighter roast coffee). For a 6oz flat white I'd probably use two pods, as the amount of coffee (like all Nespresso pods) is actually quite small (5g per dose, in comparison with at least 15g in a standard two shot flat white). The Rwanda pods will work well in a flat white, as long as you like a sweet coffee that's on the fruitier side. If you don't want to use 2 pods, try making a smaller milk drink - like a piccolo. A 3 - 4 oz glass will work well with a single pod. Hope that helps! JP

      @@TheCoffeeChannel Thank you for the reply! I am also going to check the settings of the Creatista to see if it is dispensing the 25g. I think it is on the hotest setting from memory.

      @@thewolfman6854 They're not particularly consistent at dispensing the right weight of coffee, but you can get them relatively close with trial and error.

    Very good video, thanks. Does the lower quantity of coffee used in the pods (5g), mean that it is less caffeinated than an equivalent weighted (25-30g) drink made using an espresso machine, from 12-15g coffee? Cheers

    • @TheCoffeeChannel
      @TheCoffeeChannel  Před rokem

      Thanks!. Yes - there will be considerably less caffeine in a pod in comparison with a double espresso made with the same beans, purely due to the weight difference. Many of the pods have a very high extraction ratio, which may result in more caffeine being extracted per gram of coffee, but this is negated by the smaller size of shot.

  • @sparks1372
    @sparks1372 Před rokem

    Have you tried reusable capsules, selecting the beans of your choice etc? It feels like an under developed part of the market with the popularity of the machines; it would be interesting to get a review of different reusable capsules.

    • @TheCoffeeChannel
      @TheCoffeeChannel  Před rokem +1

      It's something to try. I suppose the main issue is that you'd need to grind the beans yourself, which takes away the convenience of the Nespresso machine.

    • @sparks1372
      @sparks1372 Před rokem +1

      @@TheCoffeeChannel it does to an extent but if you were to have three or four (enough for a day) then you could prepare in bulk and it allows full freedom over bean choice too. It would hopefully be more environmentally friendly as well
