      Keep in mind that the Royal Purple HPS is not licensed API motor oil. Which is required by FORD to keep your engine warranty. Royal Purple does have available API licensed oils. Just an FYI... See video here...

    Thank you for sending all these oils off to get tested... It is definitely helping me to make a conscious decision on which oil I should run in my '98 Ram 1500. Granted, the truck is a beat around town truck, but I wouldn't be afraid to jump in it and drive cross-country. Will be much better once I fix the front end on it. Ball joints could use some love and I know at least one of the outer tie rods could stand to be replaced, but I'll probably do both tie rods and both upper and lower ball joints. I want the thing as bulletproof as possible for as little money as possible... I know, oxymoron AF, but still. Appreciate you taking the time to do this for us.

    Very interesting results on the Motul vs Royal Purple. My former employer has very strong opinions on the subject of motor oils and various other things. I had known him for many years prior to going to work for him. When I once went into the store to pickup motor oil and a filter I couldn't find Castrol GTX. I was given a treatise on how Castrol GTX was utter garbage. I had run Castrol in all my vehicles for years without any issues. After going to work for this man I entered into a discussion on different oils. I asked if he was familiar with Royal Purple. I was informed that Royal Purple was trash. He runs Motul in his wife's VW Jetta. It's refreshing to see that Royal Purple tests better than Motul.
    In a former life I was a SAAB mechanic and later parts manager. My former employer has an 87 900 8 valve. He claims it has 500k miles. I asked what was wrong with it. He said the engine was locked up. The SAAB 8 valve engine had a high nickel content cast iron engine block with a forged and nitrited crankshaft. These engines were virtually bullet proof. It takes a real masochist to destroy one of these engines. "Mr. Motul" managed to accomplish this difficult feat. He was a big Valvoline fan. The parking lot of the store has many dead vehicles around the building. I've come to the realization that this individual isn't as savvy as he claims to be.

    I know every engine and situation is different but I recently started using RP HMX 5w30 in my ol 08 F150 and it made a significant difference in the amount of valve train noise. I had used Mobil 1 since it was new thinking it was good oil ...... Only thing , it's pricey!

    I have a h3 Hummer 245 thousand miles on it. Runs like a champ. I tried royal purple and it does make my truck run smoother. But what worries me the most is in the beginning for a while. The oil light comes on at stop until i mash gas. Over times it stops and never comes on again. Other than that. No issues. Yes I've replace pressure switch and resealed engine being it's an old truck. Hardest which i paid someone to do was front crank seal and rear main seal. 😂. Nevertheless I've been using Pennzoil Platinum Ultra syn. I listened to you and my babe aka truck runs great. But i want to use Royal Purple again being i got all those seals done. I know the best two oils are RP and Pennzoil. Nevertheless random thought this video just reminded me if i should use Royal Purple for a little while. Then switch back to Pennzoil

      The engine is worn out. My tercel is the same way, when the oil is still cold and at idle. Oil light comes on and goes off when you accelerate. once the engine is warmed up, its fine. I use pennzoil platinum in it was well.

    • @Quis85
      @Quis85 Před rokem

      @@Terror1Void i don't think my engine is worn out. I had that checked and everything is fine. It never did any of that. Until i put RP in there. Any other oil that never happens. That's why i stopped using it. But being a preventative type of person. I knew if i wanted to keep it long. Might as well do a reseal so that was one less thing i had to do. It had nothing to do with the RP. I just thought it was weird. The moment I used RP. Oil light came on. I'm going to try it again. And if the same thing happens again. I'll know ok yeah RP might just be too thin or something. Lol.

    I use Motul in our racing karts so I really was hoping the Motul eco oil did better than it did. It looks like the "Eco" part refers to them cheaping out on the additive package to me.

  • @sezwo5774
    @sezwo5774 Před rokem +1

    At first I thought Motul must be using a better base oil and that is why they passed on the Molybdenum, but then I noticed very similar flash point temperature for both oils. Motul 430 Fahrenheit, RP 420, indicating a similar type base oil. So indeed RP looks like a stronger oil. Similar quality base oil but stronger additive package. One caveat though, more elements in the add-pack does not automatically mean better oil as more Calcium more Zinc other elements means more competition with oil for metal surface adherence. Too much and the oil cannot do its job. I personally prefer cheaper oils and more frequent oil changes. Have used nearly everything in the past in my Subarus, but slowly over the course of many years I came to prefer cheap but within specs oils that are changed more frequently. My favorite is NAPA's home brand full synthetics oils. Similarly Kendall's GT-1, available at one time in 99 Cents Only Stores on the west coast for like $2.99 a quart. I like Kirkland COSTCO oil also. I understand more and more people prefer longer drain intervals and gravitate towards fancier oils. Great comparison video. Thanks.
