Snake... why are we still here? Just to suffer? Every night, I can feel my leg and my arm... even my fingers... the body I've lost... the comrades I've lost... won't stop hurting. It's like they're all still there. You feel it too, don't you? I'm the one who got caught up with Cipher. A group above nations... even the US. And I was the parasite below, feeding off Zero's power. They came after you in Cyprus... then Afghanistan... Cipher... just keeps growing. Swallowing everything in it's path. Getting bigger and bigger... Who knows how big now? Boss. I'm gonna make 'em give back our past... take back everything that we've lost. And I won't rest... until we do.

I was born without fingers on my left hand, but I can still feel it as if it was the same as my right hand. I’ve never really told anyone or thought all that much of it though because I don’t remember a time I didn’t feel fingers I don’t have and I’ve always thought of phantom limbs as being exclusively for people who lost their limbs later in life. That’s kinda cool to know what it is and why it happens!! 😊

I remember learning about this kind of stuff in my Psychology class. We also discussed what I think was called Alien Hand Syndrome or something like that. It's when you have a body part, such as a hand, as normal. However, you don't perceive it to be yours, and you may even struggle to control it. You may even have to use your other hand to keep it from doing anything without your noticing.

All the details - the hazy animation sequences, the dichromatic color schemes, and the eerie shifting (at times ominous) music complement the theme and the content so well. • @Future_Pheonix

This is a very interesting topic. I remember watching some video showing how certain disabled people who lost the ability to move/use a limb due to brain injury (or something like that..I can't really remember) have somehow managed to start moving and using those limbs again after exercising and trying to move them often for a long time, even though it didn't seem possible. Apparently their brains preserved those pathways (sorry, I don't remember the technical term) and managed to restore some of the missing information.
A map makes a lot of sense and that explains all those baffling videos of people using prosthetics, and how they manage to control them like that (I'm not sure, I'm no expert, but it probably relies on brain signals being sent to the nerve ends.. right?).
I think looking further into the subject of pain and pain signals sent by the brain could help us not only with physical issues and ailments, but mental ones as well. For example, with people who suffer from chronic pain due to mental disorders and issues(I'm pretty sure my IBS can be largely attributed to my mental state as well), and even people who suffer grave illnesses due to it(though that might be a completely different subject, since it's more than just pain).
Sorry for the long comment, but this is very interesting!

I've never lost a body part in my life, but recently I had a dream my left index finger was shot off. It was such an odd feeling. After having it tended to, I found that holding things was weird. I felt this off sensation, as if I was incomplete yet whole at the same time. When I pointed to the sky, it felt as natural as ever, but it also felt tremedouzly new because while it felt like I was pointing, it also felt like nothing was there that should be there because it wasn't. I found trouble grabbing things or ever moving my hand without the constant ebbing feeling that something was not where it should have been, yet it felt like it was there kinda

That was interesting! I always thought congenital amputees (people born without a limb(s)) didn't experience phantom pains/phantom limbs, because I didn't think that could happen from someone who'd never had that limb in the first place.
In that vein, quick question - do all or most congenital amputees experience phantom limbs/pain, or is it rarer than in traumatic amputees?

It would be cool to see an explanation for how people get pahntom limbs that aren't in the body's normal structure. Eg. I have a friend that has a phantom tail, and I have heard from many other people online that they have gotten pahntom ears, wings, etc.

Amazing topic, animation, and music. It feels like a movie! I like the thoughtfulness of the animation where they have reduced it to the bare essentials, minimizing distraction
