  • In May 2010, Russian Marines from the Naval Infantry and serving onboard the Marshal Shaposhnikov destroyer were ordered to retake the MV Moscow University which had been seized by pirates 20 hours before. This is the story of that operation.
В мае 2010 года российским морским пехотинцам из военно-морской пехоты и служащему на борту маршалу Шапошникову было приказано вернуть Московский университет им. М.В., который был захвачен пиратами за 20 часов до этого. Это история этой операции.

That’s by far the best way to deal with chronic piracy. Rather than televising anti-piracy raids and arrests that then result in asylum claims and welfare for the rest of the clan brought in as immigrants to Europe, just sink the pirate vessels with their crews. Once piracy becomes a one-way trip to oblivion rather than wealth, it’ll soon become unattractive, and if the other pirates never know what happened to their colleagues, they won’t retaliate against the hostages they already hold.

Include the steel cased ammo to the rusted AK's. Although the cartridges are coated with laquer to stop rust. Once the metal cartridge box is opened you cannot reseal the box. It like opening a can of food. Once opened it's open forever. The salt water will corrode and oxidize the steel cartridges. The 7.62x39 AK cartridge has a tapered side, to add to the difficulty of being able to seat the cartridge into the chamber of the rifle with the salt water corrosion. It's surprising that the pirates could even shoot the AK's.

After watching like halfway through I absolutely knew that Russia was not gonna let them get away with that shit XD. They literally used an APC in a hostage situation and fired a salvo into the fucking building.

"They were set free aboard a small vessel they had used to attack the tanker" - yeah, either with no fuel or they were used as target practice. "Never seen again" doesn't surprise me

By comparing the response of the *Russians* shown here with that of the *Dutch* - also on this Channel - we gain some insight into the reasons for the current challenges faced by EU member states.

      *European Union*
But these people are desperately poor, marginalised and simply need education and a chance to flourish in better surroundings.
      *Mother Russia*
Seems like a good a time as any to live fire test that new hypersonic missile.

i watched this vid. because of the captivating title "russian marines vs. pirates". everyone knows how it's going to end for the pirates from the get go, but it was worth watching still. very well done ending on a par with the "godfather" ( the movie).

600 miles with one tank of gas, Captain Bleigh would have been hard pressed to make that. I'm guessing they launched the chopper after the "official communications" ended.

I'm not entirely convinced taking hostages would have stopped Russians from boarding that tanker.
