  • Watch this detailed and step by step video tutorial on how to find the volume of a cylinder. Finding the volume of a cylinder or any other solid is found by multiplying the area of the base to the third dimension of height. The formula used to find the volume of a cylinder is pi x radius squared x height. Volume is measured in cubes or cubic units. Enjoy learning how to find the volume of a cylinder, the easy way, with the Math Motor Channel!

    This is a great video and explanation! However, B does not stand for "base". Lower case b stands for "length of the base" and capital B stands for "area of the base". That explains WHY we use the area formula for the B in the formula.

    Once we find the solution. How does one find a usable volume? I can't go to the store and buy a 5lb bag of flour and know it fit into my canister because I calculated the volume and it's approx 1343.97ft^3. Do we know how many cubic inches in, say, 1 cup? Or one quart?

    How about with a diameter?

    • @MathMotor
      @MathMotor  Před 10 lety +1

      The radius is always half of the diameter. So if you are given the diameter just divide it by 2! Likewise, if you are given the radius and need the diameter...you can double the radius or multiply by 2.

    • @shoutatthesky
      @shoutatthesky Před 10 lety

      MathMotor Isn't r squared the same as the diameter so why use radius and not diameter? It seems to me it would be better to write the equation as V= πdh ? What am I missing?

    • @MathMotor
      @MathMotor  Před 10 lety +2

      Thats a common misconception. The radius is a line...from the center out to the edge or circumference. Like a spokeon a bike wheel. Diameter is from one edge, through the center, across to the edge again. Wich is how car rims/wheels are measured...i.e. 17" or 24". Lets say the radius is 4 cm. The diameter...would be twice that. Like 2 spokes on a bike that meet at the ctr. So yhat would be 2 times r or 2r. Like one of the circumference formulas...C=2(pi)r. So the diameter in this case would be 8. R squared would be 4x4 wich is equals 16 and used to find area...big difference. Watch mathmotor videos on area of a circle and circumference of a circle!

    • @CorbinJonesZersdan
      @CorbinJonesZersdan Před 9 lety +1

      Amancalled Adam no, the diameter is twice the radius
      when you square something that means it multiplies by itself and makes a perfect square.

    This is easier...
    V= PiR2h
    (the radius will be 3 and the height will be 9 cm)
    V=Pix(3x3)x9
    V=Pix9x9
    V=Pix81
    Pi is equal to 3.14 so..
    V= 3.14 x 81
    V= 254.34 cm2
