    Quick question so in this case I don't have to do π • 11 squared just 11 squared ?

    Hello Mike Buboltz, just wanted to point out that I got different answers when doing the calculations by the written method.
    4:07 - Your answer was 1,178.1 cm³ (using a calculator). Whereas, I got the answer 1,177.5 cm³
    So it's quite a difference by only 0.6 cm³.

    • @mrbuboltzm
      @mrbuboltzm  Před 4 lety +3

      The reason we're getting two different answers is that we used two different approximations for the number pi. I think you probably rounded pi to 3.14. When I used the pi key on my calculator, the calculator rounds pi to many more decimal places. So when you use the formula to calculate volume, multiplying by 3.14159265... gives an answer that is slightly bigger than multiplying by 3.14. I hope this helps!

    • @mrbuboltzm
      @mrbuboltzm  Před 5 lety

      Without seeing the problem, I can only guess about what you might have done wrong, but I do have a guess. One possibility is that the shape you’re working with has a DIAMETER of twenty. Since the formula for volume requires you to know the radius, you would have to cut 20 in half to get a radius of 10. Then you’re ready to calculate the volume. I hope this helps!

    How do you get Height without volume

    • @jamesbowmanmoreheadstate
      @jamesbowmanmoreheadstate Před měsícem

      Unless you have a relationship between the radius (or diameter) and the height, you won't be able to find the height without volume. Remember the volume formula for a cylinder: V = Bh. The solving for h gives you h = V/B. Because you can find B, but you don't know V, you will only be able to relate V and r.
      In short: If you have a number N of variables and you want to find an exact value for one of those variables, you need to know exact values for N-1 of those variables.
      However, without volume, it is possible to find the height (without volume) if you know the surface area and the radius, the diameter, or the area of the base. I hope this helps!

    Why?...why use the calculator?
    You started off with pencil and writing everything which was very clear and simple to follow.🤔🙄
    Then again,you went on to saying things without showing on paper What you were doing and again using the calculator...by this time you have succeeded in losing a lot of people to have this explained to them,you still rambling on is like speaking a foreign language 🤔🙄

    • @jimbobago

      "Why use the calculator?" Seriously? Why not? Do you actually expect him to write out all the calculations by hand on paper? How would that make things more understandable to you? Have you never used a calculator and have no idea how they work? If you don't understand something you watch the video again and follow along with a calculator - especially in the second example because in this day and age, no one is going to divide 1520 by 121 and then divide that number by a value of pi - even one as simple as 3.14. This was perfectly clear to me - this sounds like a "you" problem.

      Sure go ahead 👍...
      Stop thinking with your brain in by letting the calculator do it for you,in by doing so you have elected to be dumbed down... This over time doesn't make you efficient and smarter,it makes you more and more dependent to having the thinking done for you.
      What did the brightest minds in the past do Before calculators came along?🤔...
      It is the way of the world in that we tend to take the least path of resistance even with our brains which is Still in many ways the Best Computer out there if we choose to exercise it in using it...
      What came first?... The Brain or the computer?... The computer puts out info that we put into it and then eventually we allow it to do the thinking for us,but it doesn't do Everything,but then again we choose for it to only solve for us what we did put into it but that becomes limited as we have already decided to stop thinking for ourselves...
      Go out to the streets and ask random young people which should be basic simple questions that Everyone should know,you may be surprised in their ability to Not answer them. The simple answer in why they can't is because the education that they are being taught and accustomed in doing does all the thinking for them,it makes us all seem stupid.... go into most stores or even fast food places and look at the (cash registers),they do Not have numbers,they have pictures and items and the amounts and change are done for them... most young people have No idea how to do simple math,it's Scary and Sad...
      Take a look at all the media outlets that everyone stares at all day on their phones where most are getting their info to what is going on around them and how they communicate with each other,They base their everyday decisions on what they hear and see and also gravitate to what they like based on what they see others are doing,the point here is that they are Not thinking for themselves and Not deciding in what is best for them but only what others are doing to be in some way the same so to not stick out to be different...This is making people dumbed down and it is Contagious,its a virus that will destroy us over time and generations...
      This same mentality that we base our decisions in what it seems that others are doing is causing many to do harmful things to themselves and others,some go as far as committing suicide and others to lash out in violent ways because they can't live up to what they see many are doing on these media site,why?... because they have No idea how to think for themselves because they have Never been taught how to use their own Brain... Ponder that my Friend....

      @@ellissmithjr6599 "What did the brightest minds in the past do before calculators came along?" Slide rules? ... logarithm tables? Heck, even the Egyptians thousands of years ago had computation tables as aids. Study some math history.
      If you want to take 1520 divided by 121 and then divide that by 3.14159 by hand go ahead. It doesn't make you smarter; it just means you've wasted time doing a menial calculation that could be completed in a fraction of the time with a modern convience. The real thinking is in knowing that you needed that calculation in the first place - not in grinding through the numbers. And to claim I shouldn't use a calculator because Galileo didn't have one is like saying I can demand you still have to ride a horse everywhere because Galileo didn't have cars or planes 300 years ago. The human race invents tools to reduce the menial work so we can concentrate on the important stuff.

      Your first paragraph you made my point 🙂👍,No Computers...
      Sadly the rest seem to be over your head to miss the point in everything then you went into condescending points in assuming that I believed that we should never use computers which is an asinine assumption...
      I made points about everyday life in Not using your brain but instead to use computers in every aspect of your daily life which again is an easy cop-out which will result in being again... dumbed down in having Negative outcome in daily life...
      Get a grip my friend and take a breath,be kind and smile and you will go a long way in life... but try more often to use that brain that God gave you to see beyond your nose... good luck 👍😎
