    This video perfectly demonstrates why I love Oris SO much, that I decided last year to make their Big Crown Pointer Date my first ever (_entry level_) luxury watch purchase. A cool, mid-sized independent with history, recognizable design and charisma.

    Even though Oris has been around since 1904 they feel like a newer brand on the rise. I picked up a green dial Oris diver 65 on a tropic rubber strap at the start of summer. It's been perfect for going to the pool, boating and that type of thing.

    I bought the first full steel in the 90s. The small minute version and it is very solid and balance on the wrist. The small face works because of the super thick interpreted bracelet. Great to see it back.

  • @viceroygunrey4037
    @viceroygunrey4037 Před 2 lety +2

    The Oris Full Steel is freaking awesome! It's weirdly both small and big... the 36.5mm size includes the crown guards so it's around 34.5mm at that flat part before the crown and L2L is 46mm including the flare of the bracelet. The lug width may be 18mm but the bracelet starts at 20mm and tapers to 18mm with a 19mm clasp. It's a watch that's transformed off the bracelet and the shrouded lugs give any strap a unique look. If it's too small for you, Oris has released the caliber 690 in bigger watches (like the ProPilot Worldtimer) and Ulysse Nardin has some contrasting discrete dual time versions (calibers 203, 223 with big date, and 243 with big date + small seconds).

    I’m a huge fan of Oris and I have 2 (so far) in my collection, a 41mm regular ProPilot and a 43.5mm Aquis.
    My first Oris was the first time I had crossed over into paying four figures for a watch which was and still is a big step for me buying something as unnecessary as a wrist watch. As you touched on in the video a big part of the appeal of Oris is the fact they’re independent. It’s a silly reason to love a watch maker but for whatever reason, it matters to me.
    The trio you got hands on with are all a little bit too “out there” for me and my ultra boring taste (to borrow a phrase from Henry Ford I like my dials “any colour you like as long as it’s black” 😂) but I love that Oris relentlessly do their own thing. Although I really like the Hölstein Edition Worldtimer 👀
    Thanks for sharing your thoughts on these watches with us.

    I'm still contemplating buying my first expensive watch, and Oris has caught my attention from the beginning of my search. They're interesting, holds some reputation and they mange to keep their design unique (as far as I'm aware). However, I'm also a bit stuck on not having found the "perfect match" in their collection. For some reason the Formex essence 39 is still on my list, but I'm also a bit on the fence with that since the brand isn't as widely recognized.

      @@YoureTerrific Recognized might not be the right choice of word here. I certainly don't mind it not being recognizable, I've always been a guy who likes niche stuff (hence the unique design Oris also has) which is actually a major plus for the Formex. By "regocnized" I was mainly thinking in terms of the fact that the amount of costumer feedback on the product is substantially less compared to the more well-known brands. However, I recall you you were quite fond of the Formex when you tried it - maybe I should just stick to my gut :)

    Oris is just not for hipsters that put every watch on NATO lol ;) Sorry for a bad joke! :P Their rubber straps are brilliant and to be honest I can't imagine an Aquis on anything other than the original strap. Changing straps is fun and everything but integration is just a higher level of design and commitment.

    Put that Full Steel dual time into a pro pilot line and I'll pick it up.

    If watch enthusiasts love independent brands, then why isn't Breitling more popular in the community?

    You were so close Oris. I guess I’m still leaning Sinn 104, however I’m not the polish bracelet Is a big turn off.

    I’m about the caliber 400 pointer date. That may be the one. Oris gets too much right to be wrong.

    just put a scratch resistant coating over the titanium, if budget microbrands can do it so should oris. citizen even puts a titanium hardened coating on their stainless steel watches because it makes it 5 times more scratch resistant (or something like that), why would anyone make a titanium watch today without it? pulsar or alba and even casio titanium watches get a pass, but in this price range oris shouldn't.

    The should get rid off the oris writing on the rubber strap, makes it look like a cheap fashion brand.
