Tesla estimated my model 2019 model 3 dual motor with 51K miles on it at 21k. 3 weeks before I ordered a new car, but after I filed the paperwork for the "FREE" FSD transfer they only offered me 13K I'd say SCAM rather than incentive, and that's not good business, I canceled my order. Great cars but sleezy business stratigies.
Of course it is scam. Most of the shit Tesla does in this area with prices and stock hypes and more is a scam.

Yes thats a given, but 8-K less than their own estimate a few weeks earlier and 10-12K less than the blue book and trying to pass off free FSD is a bit much, doncha think? If you dont trade it in then the FSD does not trasfer, they are calling that an insentive, I call it a scam. @@mixrm0n
A friend of mine just got a 2019 P100D model S with only 38k miles for only $32k from a BMW dealer. Sounds like a good deal but not a good resale value for a car that was worth over $100k

I talked to a Tesla charging station service employee who had a Model Y 2 seater, with a cargo wall, and a flat back area filled with tools. He said the field repair employees all have them, so Tesla made a small fleet of these just for their own needs. The employee was working in Missouri.

Tesla needs to do something about residuals and trade-ins. They could simply increase their sales volume by offering better trade in values. Their trade in values are usually way below Manheim auto auction values (MMR). Regular car dealers will often give you MMR values without much negotiation.
I traded in my 2022 sport civic just 2 weeks ago and I was happy with my outcome. Had checked carmax, and varies other options and Tesla paid the most by a lot.
I totally agree. Their offer for my Toyota RAV 4 was over $3000 less than KBB. That’s what’s stopping me from buying one. Not only that, by trading in you save on tax. Tesla is charging you retail for their car and offering you wholesale for yours.
@@ronniemullis8717Yes, that’s how all dealers work. The difference is that Tesla doesn’t put trade in’s on the lot to resell.
@@mini2nut67Most dealers auction off 70% of their trade ins. You can still get Manheim Auction Value MMR value from them most of the time. Tesla trade ins, even on their own vehicles, are generally thousands less than auto auction values (which is what all dealers use as a baseline). Particularly for used Teslas, this doesn’t make any sense since they do sell their own vehicles used. Until Tesla wakes up to this, they will struggle to increase sales, particularly amongst existing owners. Offering them free colors and some supercharging doesn’t make up for the difference and loss of sales tax savings.
@@mini2nut67 And that’s a turn off for me. I would loose over three thousand dollars plus the tax advantage of a trade in. I will quit looking for a Tesla and wait on the Cadillac Optiq or Chevrolet Equinox. Tesla wants to give you wholesale for your car and charge you retail for theirs.

The only advanatage I can see for Tesla's rental fleet sales is "getting butts in seats". However, three times I have tried to rent a Tesla from Hertz and three times I have been "given the run around". It is clear to me Hertz is not interested in renting Teslas. No wonder they fail.
Hello from Las Vegas, NV. I also want to purchase a Model Y and asked the local Tesla advisor whether the refreshed M-Y will be available in America during 2024. He just now replied "The updated Model Y will not be releasing anytime this year. That is about as much information that we have on it." I wanted to trade-in our immaculate 2022 Nissan LEAF SV and also received the expected low-ball offer from Tesla that wasn't too far off from what the local Nissan dealership, Carmax, etc. all offered. I had to pay the extra "supply chain problems" 5 grand premium on top of the MSRP to buy the Nissan so won't recoup that. That's my two bits worth.
Definitely not buying one this year unless they get some sense and refresh model Y like the 3

Refreshes are typically minor but aesthetically appealing and market people with a different mentality than you (ie automatically accept whatever it is without question). In case you missed the news on the Model Y update a couple of months ago, it consisted of minor changes like adding ambient lighting, a new wheel option and small tweaks to both range and acceleration figures. These changes were officially announced for China, but we haven’t seen them applied to the U.S. market Model Y yet so it makes sense when US readers ask about refreshes since the model y was released in 2020 and this is now 2024.

Financing w/ free supercharging is solid, but with the current interest rates it is still a pass for me. With the clout of Tesla, they should be subsidizing new purchases to get rates back to 2.9 - 3.9 for 60-72 months...especially with the EV resale values...encourage longer ownership.

Chevy has to sell through dealers so the Equinox EV won't ever sell for $35,000, not even a single unit will be available at that price. Buyers will be lucky to find one under $40,000.

Tesla offering access to the supercharger network may make some money but it may go down in history as the worst mistake Tesla ever made. I think the risk is that existing customers will be upset and also might be more likely to buy another brand of car next because they can still use the supercharger. Also, many Tesla buyers mention the supercharger network for choosing the brand but now they Tesla has nearly leveled the playing field they no longer have that advantage.
You think their goal was to be as profitable as possible, you need to go back and look at what they want to achieve.

The Osborne effect has kicked in for most who are entertaining a Model Y.
I think the more people who refuse to buy the older Model Y/S/X and instead wait for a refresh then Tesla will be forced to put out the newer refreshed models sooner. They can throw every incentive out there and see what sticks but I’m waiting. And don’t be a sucker and pick up dated (older) technology just to save a bit.

Why should we be surprised that Tesla is having a tough quarter? The new model 3 is overpriced and the model Y has a new version coming out in the next year. Why Tesla did not do some of these upgrades in the model Y on an ongoing basis is a mystery to me. They could've changed the suspension, added more glass to the cabin and changed over to ventilated seats. This easily could've proceeded the style change in the model Y. And now they want to delay the introduction of the model Y Juniper in the United States just so they can sell more of the outdated model Y. I always thought Tesla was a pretty smart company. I'm not so sure anymore.

My Tesla logic says my three is 524hp. No idea how it gets that. There is such a difference between 500hp and 1000hp but not to 600hp.
I'll bet this pushes up older S sales. I've been thinking of buying one just because the older used car prices are getting low. You can feel everyone is worried about owning an older EV. Im not one of those people.

I was on the same boat as you last December. I waited till January for the point of sale tax credit and just pulled the trigger. The main thing I did not like about the model 3 is the lack of steering wheel levers. I love my model y and have no regrets!

I’m glad I bought my Model 3 last year when I could get the Federal tax credit (greatly helped my tax return this year) and saved a couple thousand on a inventory model (picked it up a couple days later). Could have even saved another couple thousand if I had waited for the Highland model announcement: oh well.
Who is will to remove their two seats in the long range model 3? I need to see the new range numbers.
If Tesla is opening the network to all comers everywhere it’s a done deal and those of us who early on paid for it by buying the cars will have to suck it up, blocked double chargers and waits included. It benefits shareholders if not Tesla owners. However I see this access more of an ‘Emergency” facility for lesser breeds ( I’m being provocative here…) to allow them to enjoy EV driving while using third party charging and knowing they can juice up at 99.9% reliability in extremis - at a substantial surcharge. I would like to see that at punishing rates, only to be used as a get-me-home measure.
I think that would actually benefit Tesla, because other drivers would see just how superiour the Supercharger network is, watch alongside Teslas while they just pull in, plug in and fill without any cards, RFIDs, credit cards, phone calls or apps. That will certainly not hinder sales.

Great video - Tesla is notorious for low trade-in value is an understatement. They quoted me $15,456 less than carmax, and 12,780 less than the ford dealer. So I bought a Mach e 91kwh dual motor with ZERO percent interest. I love Tesla's innovation and software but I despise the trade in low ball offers and the arrogant attitude of the workers. In the end I am much happier with the mach e over the model y - getting access to the tesla chargers this month was a big factor in my final decision to buy.

What I'm worried about is that I ordered a 'ready for immediate delivery' inventory MYP only to find out that it was being held for EPA approval. Approval has been completed but they keep pushing my delivery day back and now it's around the 18th (pick up at Fremont). I have FSD that I want to transfer and don't want them to keep pushing back so far I miss out on that. The $7500 and FSD transfer are the only reasons I pulled the trigger now rather than wait for Juniper.
Saw one for 43k on a MYP. Paired with the 10k miles supercharging its honestly a steal. But with that insane depreciation, I’ll just wait for the R2.

Tesla membership has been a thing in Europe for a while, Superchargers are less expensive than all other chargers in UK even without it and the return on the membership over here requires about 85 kW of charging per month, I activate it for a month once a year when driving on a long road trip
In Germany, and I believe France too, as well as a few other countries in Europe have emissions zones in dense city centers. I believe businesses have to pay for a pass to operate in the area.

@@Justin-ng6lt cheap build quality, lots of technical issues for a new car, missing luxury features for the price I bought it at especially like I had to add tons of noise deadening stuff myself afterwards, horrible ride quality and less than desirable range although that was not a major problem but still was annoying with the phantom drain and not having a home charger as I live in a apartment. The brakes even in my performance version were just like two erasers and had horrendous stopping power.
I have no intention of buying another Tesla for a while , They pulled radar and USS while the vision they replaced it with is complete GARBAGE. They don't look like they are in any hurry to support their existing customers which are still waiting for a fix.. Earlier Teslas seem to have had much better support . Now that they have opened up the SC network there is really no other reason to purchase one.
Would trade my 18 3 in immediately if I can get the transfer of FSD whether the car is delivered by 3/31 or not. Even happy to pay for it ahead of time but Tesla said no so I'm going to wait.
The fact that Elon said no new model Y coming this year is gonna be a huge hit for Tesla this year I believe. I don't see why anyone would not wait unless it's an emergency.

@9:10 Tesla is definitely software locking the model 3 performance. The original M3P was capable of being faster than P100D and Tesla did a track test of this in private but never released it for obvious reasons. The flagship Model S HAD to remain the "fastest".

I don't know why Tesla even bothers to keep the Model S, if they're so worried about the model 3 Performance/ludicrous competing against the Plaid Model S, why don't they just get rid of it? The model 3 is MUCH more profitable than the Model S, and Model S sales have being going down over the years. For the price to Model S isn't built very well and doesn't really offer that much over the model 3.
I think they are looking to upgrade the S&X soon and give them more upgrades to put them ahead of 3&Y
That’s like saying, “why does bmw keep the 5 series and 7 series when the m3 is faster”. Haha. It’s business. The plaid is the flagship car and still offers more features over a model 3/y. The s/x have air suspension and more room and as someone with an X and Y there’s a big difference. The X rides SO much better and has a lot more space.
BMW nerf’d the m1 and m2 as to not beat the m3 and m4. Porsche nerf’d the gt4 to not beat the gt3. It’s just called business buddy. 🤓

@@shadir007 internal combustion engines are much different because it's harder to make them more and more powerful without the ridiculous sums of money and ruining the reliability of the vehicle for the easy side why software locks just make the other one just make it actually luxurious, calling the Tesla Model S a luxury cars honestly a stretch because well come on there are cars that are like $ 50k that are built better
The S is so old that all of the development costs have been recouped and they make a ton of money on each one. Tesla is milking it for all that it is worth.
Hey Ryan, it would be good if you mentioned that the Disney+ app disappeared from Tesla’s menu because of the feud with Iger. I listen to your show for an unbiased approach, but don’t recall you mentioning this. It’s a big deal for parents and more importantly, evidence of Musk’s Twitter drama bleeding over into Tesla day-to-day.

If you had a Disney Plus subscription it remained on screen. If you didn't subscribe, it disappeared.
Note of course that while non-Teslas are upcharged at superchargers, I think it was Out of Spec that noticed that the higher rates were STILL less than the nearby EA charger. It was something like $0.30/kw for Tesla, $0.40/kw for non-Tesla, while the EA charger was like $0.52/kw. And the Tesla chargers are almost always faster than EA chargers. Sooo while you're paying more to charge than if you had a Tesla, it's still less money and and a better experience than if you were using the CCS network.

I am juiced over Tesla opening up the supercharger network as a 2023 Tesla Model Y owner, had it been done sooner I would likely have not sold my 2023 Ioniq 5 Limited even after the hassle of 7 months to repair DC charging problem, thanks Elon and Jim at Ford for fronting this whole process!
It’s good business and a genius move from Tesla. Guaranteed constant income from all other owners of different EV’s.
