Nice touch with the purple suit Jeremy.
The suit is black the shirt is purple. Right?
+psyenergy1 yeah
+psyenergy1 *The blazer is charcoal flannel actually.
+Jeffulator Bummer is, the suit is actually dark blue. doesn't really show in the video though.
+Jeremy Jahns Jeremey Do a Krampus Movie Review when it comes out
David was so damn good in this
yeah
"That guy" is Frank Simpson, a.k.a. Nuke, a villain that's basically Captain America, on drugs, and without any sense of morality.
+MrLuizilla I did think it was more than a coincidence that they made him look and dress and even hair style himself to look eerily similar to MCU Steve, just with a hint of being unhinged beneath the surface for a twist.
+Kiyosuki I noticed that also and his pills were red, white and blue. Just another failed attempt at the super soldier serum like the Hulk.
+MrLuizilla YOOO I knew this dude reminded me to much of cap!
+Kiyosuki awesome job with the casting on Marvel's part. The actor really resembles Chris Evans and given that his character is similar to Cap, it was a great foreshadowing. Did anybody else hear "America: FUCK YEAH" in their head while he was walking away from the fire he made at Kilgrave's cell?
Thank you! This should be top comment.
My favorite villain is MurderCorpse
+Bawesome Kid So let me get this straight... there is a villain called "Murder Corpse"?! Lol what the hell.
+iWillWakeYouUp. It's a joke, they made a joke in then show
Jessica talking to Kilgrave: seriously? Kilgrave? Was murdercorpse already taken?
+iWillWakeYouUp nah they take the piss out of killgrave's name comparing it to calling him "murdercorpse"
+mixedstylesable Why don't they call him Purple Man like in the comics then?
+baseballrogue in the comics, he's literally purple. Since they didn't do that in the show, they stuck with his weird comic booky last name.
Jeremy that police guy you didn't like is Nuke from the comics. He's basically a villain who's a mix of Punisher and Captain America. He'll be in season two if there is one.
Has an American flag in his face
+Gabriel Mendez yeah, he actually tattooed an american flag in his face. Thats what you call patriotic.
+Nooby Brendan Season two has been confirmed.
But didn't he die in the show?
+Gage Westerik he has a healing factor
Krysten Ritter's Great Acting and Distant but Caring Hero + David Tennant's Awesome Acting and Effed Up but Charming Villian = They Literally Made Up the Show's Greatness!
Do a spoiler review!
+Andrei Terbea Huh....didn't know you watched Jeremy Jahns.
yes
+pjsmith97 Jeremy is the biggest reviewer on youtube. Everyone watches Jeremy Jahns.

JESSICA!!
GET..... BACK..... HERE...... JESSICA
+Bryan Leong NOW JESSICA
Let go of me JESSICA!
+Khalil Adel JeeeeeeeeeeeSSSSIIIIICAAAA
JESSSSSIIIICCAAAAA....*Gets knocked out by bus*
This show is awesome. David Tennant's performance as Kilgrave DESERVES an
Emmy nomination.
Kilgrave is my favorite MCU villain. Netflix/Marvel has had two amazing villains. Something the movies lack.
+Gwapa snuna Very much not the case :D
Let's jump on the hate wagon/Marvel has no villain agenda because why not.
Winter Soldier
Loki
Red Skull
Obadiah (Iron Monger)
Abomination
I even liked Micky Rourkes character in Iron Man 2 and if not for The expectations, Killian was actually a really good villain. (Then again Iron Man 3 was a good movie but a terrible MCU/Superhero/Iron Man movie)
The only 'bad/forgettable' one was in Thor 2 imo.
+manav bhalla Even Guardians had a ver forgettable villain actually.
+manav bhalla Wilson fisk
manav bhalla Apparently so is Winter Soldier or Loki.. oh wait lol. The Iron Man villains where not either as they had a presence about them some being funny even. Also Agents of Shield has some of the best villains out of the whole MCU as well.
My only complaint and surprised Jeremy didn't mention it was that crazy and annoying red head chick, she has almost no relevance and way too much screen time.
Yes ..... I wanted to slap that annoying ass girl
+Lone Wanderer Possibly the worst character created in the Marvel universe to date..... :(
You were supposed to hate here, that was her role, and considering all the comments I read about her I guess she did a stellar job.
+Gardow that's how I saw it, too. I hated her from the get go, but I knew, that's what makes this real. all the stupid things are excactly the same actions I would expect from some of my neighbours in this kind of situation. there are idiots like her everywhere, and it just seemed right, that a crazy neighbor can make things worse, even when shit hits the fan^^
PapayaStyle "there are idiots like her everywhere, and it just seemed right, that a crazy neighbor can make things worse, even when shit hits the fan^^"
If you have neighbors like that, I strongly suggest you move.... lol
It's definitely one of my favourite series ever, I absolutely adored it.
did they come out with another season past the first one ? please tell me they did, I've been away from Netflix for a while
No, but it will come out next year
you need to watch more series.
Good, not great. Nuke Villian/cop dude was awful
Same. It's great.
*Pro*
1) Kilgrave
2) Luke Cage
3) Deals with the topic of rape without being edgy or over the top
*Con*
1) Anticlimactic ending and some slight plot conveniences.
2)Weak subplots
3) THAT FUCKING REDHEAD
I HATED Robyn!!!
I can't believe she choked on her own puke at the end, that was crazy.
Um SPOILERS
+Foxden And then his dad caused a bunch of deaths, youre gonna have to live with that Heisenberg.
+Bronwyn Vc Nah it's a reference to the character she plays in Breaking Bad
i understood that reference
Thats how she got her powers *by accident*
"Oh for gods sake it's Patsy!" Favorite line in the whole damn show.
I love when kilgrave goes surprise! It reminds me of moriarty
So is Killgrave the "Purple Man"?
Yes, he is
Yes
lol I kept calling him Purple Man when talking about him to other people and they had no idea who I was talking about. I think Purple Man is a better name though so I still call him that.
Yeah they really should of called him that in the show. Not in a way that doesn't fit. Don't have him or Hessuca call him that. But it would've been cool to have an urban legend take on it where his victims refer to him as that because all they about him is he wire purple.
+faolan1686 yes of course he is...
Kilgrave is Marvels best villain, I think. Also.. Jeri's storyline was soooooo annoying
Which one's Jeri again?
Kilgrave? Was murdercorpse taken?
+LegoDude2011 The douchebag lawyer
I agree. I did my own reviews of this and I found her whole story pointless until it finally ended.
+LegoDude2011 the lesbian boss
Kilgrave is an awful creature that needed to be dissolved in acid before dying but because David Tennant is playing him you can’t help but think “Oh you rascal, you! Go on then you lovable rogue.”
Don't you mean Murdercoffin?
I love that they tried to more subtle by removing an l from his name, in the comics he's Killgrave.
+MrLCGO However, In the comics his Actual name is Killgrave. I don't know why they changed it in the series.
88Hyo Too on the nose I guess? I normally don't like when they do that, but IMO it works for this series.
+88Hyo it's a bit silly but his name is still Kilgrave, he just has a bit of story in his name now.
Then there's his less violent cousin Bullybarn
i'd have honestly loved if they carried on with the crime solving duo premise with Jessica and Kilgrave helping people.
Thought the exact same thing.
+G_Morto me too!! because I knew nothing about her or this show, I got really hopeful they would go this way. That would have been awesome
+G_Morto I'm so glad someone else thinks so. It was my favorite moment in the season, hands down. So interesting. Fucked up, but interesting.
+G_Morto YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
On episode 8 i think it was where they are just having their banter i was thinkin "godammit their dialogue is so good i almost wish kilgrave wasnt the villian of this show" just to see more of the guy. David tennant nails most rolea he's in and kilgrave may be one of my favourites from him
I really liked how they referenced the battle on NY from Avengers and even Hulk himself a couple of times throughout the show. Thought it was pretty neat, establishing them in the same universe. :D
Also liked the Jewel costume scene :P
Looking forward to season 2
I fucking love this series so much that as soon as I finished it, I re-watched it again.
+George He Audio You're a moron.
+MetusBatman V7 well... he wanted to, so he did.
Myrest Brilliant insight, moron.
+MetusBatman V7 Chill, fam.
ShushItsNotMe I am chill, moron.
The Marvel tv shows are better then the movies already. The villains are much better.
They aren't up for comparison. The movies are trying to be light hearted and fun, which they succeed in doing. The netflix shows are trying to be the dark and gritty drama that the movies haven't been able to be.
***** the movies didn't start out light hearted and fun. The first Iron Man and Incredible Hulk movies were pretty dark and gritty. But now the movies are so cartoonish.
I prefered Abomination over Kingpin, Sue me!
+Sir Boast-a-lot you can not compare a movie to a tv show... thats just dumb. A tv show has time to introduce characters, story and set up things, but i movie just has about 2 hours to do all that. thats why movies are rushed
+Sir Boast-a-lot Thats what happens when you give a story 13 hours to develop as opposed to 1 1/2 - 2 hours.
Am I the only one that was thankful they decided not to call Kilgrave "Purple Man"?
+DCMarvel2009 he wasnt a purple man so seemed logical.
Dan Johnson Though I must admit, his taste in purple suits is pretty gewd. Plus, it's David freakin' Tennant!
+DCMarvel2009 No, I am thankful, in a sense. I'm just happy they kept with the purple theme of the character. ***SPOILER*** Also the little hint at his skin at the finale was pretty sweet.
I woulda liked to hear at least one person say it. It woulda been funny
"gewd" fuck off mate
Finally, a reviewer who doesn't step around the rape and violation issue that's basically a main driving force of this show.
+Pete Blades Although she was technically raped in the moment she was enjoying herself. Which is a backwards insult to actual rape victims, moron.
She never enjoyed being with Kilgrave. Kilgrave kept on insisting that she did but that was part of his delusion. She made it clear that she hated every moment she was with him.
+MetusBatman V7 Did you even watch the show?
+MetusBatman V7 I assume you're suffering from "Constantus Offendis Syndrome" contracted in the CZcams comments section or internet-at-large. It features an alien growth inside one's body called "stick up the ass" activated upon reading/hearing/seeing something one does not agree with. The growth starts to infect one's mental state accompanied by increased saliva production (frothing). The infected subject finds the need to share his/hers nonsensical world-view with others whether they want it or not. Known cures feature smashing one's head against the wall till the brains come out as the illness is incurable...
+Pete Blades The main storyline of this show was an allegory about rape and the consequences of that act and society being apathetic about it and not doing something to stop it/help victims/put perpetrators in jail.
She never changed her jeans..
+The Artist Formerly Known As.. I love the show, but i could not stop noticing that! XD
Her ass looked fantastic in them though.
She's basically poor she can't afford them
+Cris Tinoco Meh, if she was living anywhere but New York, she'd be living like a queen.
+The Artist Formerly Known As.. But they're jeans!
Jeremy, if you liked David Tennant in this, you'll love him in Doctor Who. Magnificent performance!
I really like how Marvel's TV shows are a part of the MCU, I don't understand why DC have separated the TV shows and films. Well, I guess it means some of the shitty acting wouldn't be in the films, but still.
So you mean that Arrow, the flash and My favourite of them all, Gotham, isn't part of the Movies!? Well... Fuck!
+Laurie Fitton they are connected in the sense that they are all part of the same mutiverse. SO there is potential for them to meet if the story requires it but at the same time they don't have to be limited to whatever the movies do. They can do their own thing and go as big as they want
it gives them freedom and really though it's not movie quality.
+mayokun olawale pffft then you can say that about Marvel too, oh X-Men is just in another multiverse and so is Spiderman 3. It's just a bit of a cop out answer that you have to deal with since it exists in the comics but you really know it's a "Way Out" answer.
errrrrmmmm, no. Thats not a way out. Multiverse has always been a major part of the DC comic universe so it makes sense that that is how they are approaching their shows and films. Plus people like you will never be happy. If DC copied marvel, you would all say that they aren't original and are just copying but now that they are not doing copying, you guys are saying that they should have done what marvel had done
I feel like having a Luke Cage show AND a Jessica Jones show is kind of redundant, they get together eventually, so will they have two shows each featuring one side of a married couple? That would be super weird. Maybe they're going to have a season or two of Jessica Jones and a season or two of Luke Cage and then they will be melded into one show? I don't know, but if they plan on having Luke Cage and Jessica Jones end up like they do in the comics something along those lines will have to happen. Right?
+Alexander Forbes I don't know that either has a season 2 currently planned. I think they need to do their team show first contractually.
+TheLoreSeeker not correct. they have to do the defenders before a certain time nobody said they cant do anything else before that.
+Alexander Forbes they are separate because they should be. they are not together yet. you argument is dumb. in that regard we should meld allt he fucking movies into one because they eventually get together as well. besides if any shows should meld it would be iron fist and luke with heroes for hire. just because someone is a supporting character doesnt mean they should be stuck to that show he needs and deserves his own show thats why the people that crank out billions of dollars a year and a loyal fanbase set it up that way. btw the creators of these shows are comic nerds as well. they are not dumb.
+M Emmensite you're wrong daredevil has a second season
+DaltoniusRexMusic my bad didn't get much sleep lol I thought I saw him say daredevil and I just read there's going to be a second season of Jessica jones I'm on episode 2 so far and this show is fucked up lol that girl killed her parents man that would suck if someone could control people like that
I gotta say, Killgrave was absolutely perfect. The charm mixed with the super clever instructions and David Tenant... Good grief, favorite villain I've seen in probably forever.
I'm just peeved that Daredevil made NO cameo in this series. They both live in the same fricken city and they don't come across each other, ONCE. I understand if it was like Flash and Arrow where they both live in separate cities, but even then they have cameos. Jessica Jones and Daredevil both live in Hells Kitchen, and with all the crime that's occurring, you'd think Daredevil would pick up on at least SOME of that. Other than that, it was good.
+Wild Koffing Should've at least had a Matt Murdock cameo. Maybe he comes to Jessica's apartment to personally thank her for helping a client he represented that was taken advantage of financially by a cheating husband or something.
Or maybe he and Foggy are at a bar and Foggy tries to flirt with Jessica hoping to get with her and uses Matt blindness as a means to gain sympathy and Jessica fires back at Foggy with one of her classic sarcastic zingers. But I don't Daredevil himself should've been in the show, maybe some mention of him would make sense considering he was featured in a newspaper article in the Daredevil finale.
I think they're saving the meet up of the tv series The defenders. However DD's girlfriend Claire temple /night nurse does make a cameo and she offers JJ his help but she refuses (fitting her character). Also Luke cage makes a reference to a guy called Melvin, possibly Melvin potter, who was the guy that makes the DD suit and in the comics becomes DD villian gladiator. Nuke, also featured in the tv show, in the comics is a DD vilian so we might see more of him in DD season 2? But don't worry they'll eventually meet up (along with other characters like Luke cage, iron fist ,etc) and have the awesome tv version of the avengers
+Elijah Goh claire is not dd's gf
+Wild Koffing there was connective tissue i was hoping for a cameo but was happy enough with night nurse.
Mahoney shows up as a mind slave of Kilgrave's when he confronts Jessica at the precinct. Mahoney was the one honest cop that helped Daredevil arrest all the people Wilson Fisk bribed into working for him.
Pick up that coffee....
now throw it on ur face (that scene was painful lol)
+Xavier Johnson Throw it on yourself.
Second funniest thing killgrave did
I literally screamed when he said, "Cut your heart out dad!"
Killgrave would make the joker cringe
Just kinda wanna point this out, in episode 11 Jessica says to Simpson, "Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stranger," which is a reference to what the Joker said in The Dark Knight's heist scene.
Fun fact for the soul (:
it's a common saying ...
common saying
David Tennant is a phenomenal actor. The best performance by him was the Tenth Doctor on Doctor Who. In my heart, he will forever be the Doctor.
review masters of none!!
Yes! Jeremy, please review masters of none!! I love that show!
Yes it will take him like a night to watch the whole show
+Matt Hickey Aziz Ansari just an annoying prick to me.
Jared Hunter whys that?
+Matt Hickey What is the show about?
Marvel has been kicking DC's butt in movies but DC has been bitch slapping Marvel in animated and television shows. Until now. With DareDevil and Jessica Jones Marvel has found the winning formula for television drama. While DC's Arrow, Supergirl and Flash are all cookie cutter version of the CW Smallville formula, Marvel is beginning to storm the beaches. The writing, the acting, the cinematography are so superior to what DC is currently producing. DC still rules the animated genre, and we'll soon see if they can catch up to Marvel in films, but they better get busy because Marvel is out for blood.
+XCyclonusX True. But from what I recall, Netflix has a bigger budget than CW i think. DC and co have 23 episode seasons = less time to craft writing, cinematography etc compared to 9 or 10 episodes.
DrewEl2 Oh I agree with you. I'm normally not one to count premium services with over the air broadcasts. For example, its totally unfair to compare Sopranos with 24. 24 has too many restrictions that Soprano's don't. But until they separate premium series from OTA series the comparison has to be made. Still taking away JJ and DD, Marvel's Agents of Shield, while not better than JJ/DD, is better than Arrow/Flash/Supergirl. I'm not sure I agree with you on Netflix giving more money to its series than CW, but Supergirl is on CBS and they have a buttload of money.
Network based shows like DC's shows have censorshis and limits on the content; netflix isnt bound to those rules.
Did marvel really have tv shows though? I don't count the animated ones lol
+Jhon Conner Back in the day yes when there was the old 80's incredible Hulk and that wasn't animated and the guy who played him is still around I only saw one or two episodes as a kid.
Love how Jeremy is dressed like Kilgrave.
Love your thoughts on this, all of it rings true. Gotta say, I really dug where they take Wil Simpson in the show (he's apparently a character called Nuke in the comics). He, like most of the characters endures trauma - he's clearly post-war and he was violated by Kilgrave as well, manipulated to kill someone innocent which he doesn't believe in. And his way of processing that trauma is substance abuse. It's a very, very specific substance that he is using to help bring down Kilgrave, but the metaphor is totally valid. Plus, you kind of hate that he descends into it, because his chemistry with Trish and with Jessica is so good, I didn't want to see him go down that dark path.
+George Seabrook Apparently you didn't read the 100 other comments saying Nuke, moron.
No because I don't have time. Did you read the entirety of my comment just to tell me that? Seems like wasting both of our time.
MetusBatman V7 No because I don't have time. Did you read the entirety of my comment just to tell me that? Seems like wasting both of our time.
George Seabrook The entirety of your comment was filled with information found in 10 seconds on Google, moron.
Wow, everything you said was so damn spot on! I also really liked Simpson and found the whole IGH/pills plot with him really interesting. It's a shame a lot of people didn't really like the character.
since episode 3, ive been yelling at my computer "just bring some goddamned headphones!" Honestly, that's all you needed for those who knows his powers.
that aside, Kilgrave is such a tragic villain. He's a douche, no doubt, but tragic nonetheless. =(
+Hillwood Lam
Yup. Brining a headphone is all you needed to defeat him. It's not like he could control everyone else around you and order them to beat you to death or anything...
+Ukaran You need headphones, intel, and a sniper. And then hope neither he nor any of his mind-controlled henchmen catch on. That's the safest way to do it methinks.
+Hillwood Lam She wanted to get him to face justice first, to prove Hope was innocent. Then when she wanted to kill him she knew he would have a failsafe that made a lot of innocent people die as soon as he did. By the time she decides she really does want to kill him she already knows he can't control her.
his weakness is will power. thats y dr doom is immune to his so call jedi mind fuck. so having a strong moral will n determination u can bitch slap him til sunday. just call this the purple man show bc its not a jessica jone show. for the most part she is his bitch anyway up til the end. jessica jone is a weak superheroe character n she knows this making her a very flawed n shallowed character. there r better female anti hero out there to me. ive heard fans calling him the next joker. which is wrong in my opinion. the joker is a better villain bc he can mind fuck those around him without using any powers. just imagine if he did. the dcs universe would never be the same. although David's performance was great its not on a level of wat i call the most dangerous villain in the mcu.
*****
The problem here, is that you are assuming Jessica is a superhero. "Jessica Jones" is not a superhero show, but a detective drama with a few super powered people in it. Jessica being a "weak superheroe character" is the entire point of the character. She tried to be a hero but failed, and now she is just a broken person.
Maybe if you try to look at the character and show with a different perspective, you can end up appreciating it more. :)
I just finished it and I loved it! David Tennant is one of my favorite actors of all time and even though this is slightly different than what I'm used to seeing him as, I enjoyed it the entire time. Kristin Ritter did amazing as well. Can't wait for season 2!
I just finished it last night and I loved it. I watched the whole season in 2 days, lol. Not a spoiler but I love when Killgrave says "Shut up, go across the street and face that fence.......forever." LMFAO
SUCH A GOOD REVIEW! Every single point you made, I was like, "YES! YES! YES!"
Now that you know of David Tennant's existance, Jeremy, watch series 2-4 plus the David Tennant specials of Doctor Who & Broadchurch. Both are on Netflix, you're welcome.
+Scsigs No, it actually goes like this: Season 1-26, The Movie, then Series 1-9
Actually, it doesn't really matter because, even if you watch something from that part of the revived era, they explain stuff to those who've never seen the other seasons. plu, with the nature of the show, you don't have to worry about continuity because it diesn't matter in the slightest. Unless you're at the end of Matt Smith's tenure, then it makes his final special worse.
Plus with a huge chunk of the 1st & 2nd Doctors' episodes still missing, that's pretty much impossible.
Classic Series is far better start, we witness the grow of the Doctor, as well as some of best Doctor Who's 2,3,4 and 7.
Scsigs I have seen the reconstructions it's not hard to get them and sit through them
This is the best review of this show I've come across. Bloody well done Jeremy!
The best part about this show is Jessica's flaws, and the fact that the show puts forward the idea that not all heroes have perfect ideals like Cap America or is rich and smart like Iron Man. Heroes are flawed in their own ways...and those flaws are front and centre of this show.
You mean her powers, the ones that decide to change whenever they need to push the story more. Can bend steel and can get tazed by a bunch of ex military guys........but gets dropped in two seconds by a whiny redhead and two just dudes. Also the logic gaps. Jesus the fucking logic gaps after episode 7 just scream young adult. Luke Cage was great and so was Kiljoy, but the rest of it was just bad after a the middle point.
Also you why they had an entire episode devoted to that military guy? Because they were trying to stretch what little they had left.
+Billy Magada Like how the Flash can move motherfucking fast but is having trouble with enemies with human reflexes?
She can withstand big amount of shock, and has super strength, but the other girl hit her on the head, she not indestructible, she can withstand a bullet, and powers lets her withstand shit and let her heal faster but she got hit hard on the head dude
+Jose Rivas dude there were 5 dude tazing her. 5 tazers at the same time and she was still fighting back. two civilians and a crazy redhead. there's a level of bullshit there that just is ridiculous.
+Billy Magada yeah that was my other problem with the show, inconsistency of the powers. sorry, gets knocked out by the redhead?? sorry, if she's bending steel and punching people 20 feet...she can't handle the 3-5 guys? most of the time, i'd say she had normal male level strength and durability...which makes the concept of the show a bit ridiculous. alongside...the ridiculous plot that they can't kill kilgrave...because that would be wrong even though he's a serial killer tyring to murder them...oh now they can kill him...now he's killed another dozen people...oh and no one thought of headphones?
killthegoats you ever remembered that she was trying to get the girl free from jail? only reason she didn't
David tennent was perfectly cast
Jeremy: " You hate the fact that you like when he's on screen... " XD
So glad you reviewed this, and that you touched on the really significant dramatic subtext this show covered. It was, as you've said, completely unexpected how deep and *real* the story and characters were.
As to David Tennant's "Kilgrave"... he was simply stunning. I love how multidimensional he was. It would have been easier to do a one-note, cookie-cutter villain- but he really is NOT that. Tennant (and the script) makes Kilgrave sympathetic- even while you are disgusted and shocked by him, there is the fact of his horrible childhood and the reasons why he is as he is. It reminds me of something Andrew Scott said in "Unlocking Sherlock" regarding Moriarty... "You need to love the villain as much as you need to love the hero, if you're going to have a *great* story." That quote has stuck with me, and I remember it whenever I'm analysing why I really like a particular villain (and it seems to run true- for me at least.)
I hated Simpson. They never should have made him so important.
Nuke might be in Daredevil season 2 though. Don't sleep on him my boy.
You know who's worse than Simpson? Frickin' Robyn, the upstairs neighbor.
+kleptic eh Robyn was kinda funny, in a pathetic way
+Liam Arnold Agreed. He contributed nothing to finally stopping Kilgrave and I can't believe he lost his mind twice on the same season.
+kleptic I hate suicide
AKA this show was Amazing
jeremy can u watch and review mr robot, it sooo good.
+Gevoian Yasin its ok but why would any marvel fan review a show that calls marvel movies stupid.
+Dan Johnson Because people are allowed to review things that have different opion then they do.
+Dan Johnson Because the show is fucking fantastic
+Dan Johnson Well this isn't a Marvel movie. This is a Marvel TV show. There's a huge difference between the two. The shows are dark and gritty and actually, well in my opinion, better than the movies.
+Gevoian Yasin show is amazing, at first i thought it was pretentious with the hacking and evil corp thing then it became sick asf like a fight club but for hackers
possible spoilers
While i do think it's a good show and killgrave was a great villain i do think it's inferior to Daredevil.
-the action wasn't as nicely done as in DD, im not talking about Jessica's fighting skills im talking about how the fight scènes were really hard to follow sometimes and looked a litle amateuristic.
- killgrave is cool but i dont like the fact that he gets captured over and over again to then again escape.
-wasn't a fan of simpson and that stupid sister that lives above Jessica.
But as i said it's a good show i'd give it a 7 (ssry for grading this Jeremy x()
one of my fav scènes is the one Jeremy was talking about. the one with Jessica's old neighbour and another is the one in the police precint where kilgrave controla everyone.
+Mujtaba Ellari Agree on everything.
+Mujtaba Ellari
The fight choreography and direction was so good for daredevil. That hallway fight is still one of my favorite sequences in any medium.
+Mujtaba Ellari yeah....i really liked the show but i agree on the third point...but for the first two points i totally disagree with you...anyway its just an opinion...
While I completely understand hat you're saying in terms of the action, it's no where near as good as daredevil but I don't think it's fair to compare it to daredevil cause I dint think they were trying to do that.
Daredevil focused a lot more on the fights and action aspect while Jessica jones focused more on the characters and their development. Not to mention Jessica is not as trained or as skilled of a fighter as Matt so it would be weird for the action to be as smooth as in daredevil.
+Mujtaba Ellari You're rational, good work.
MY LOVE! Met her at CES last month and she is GORGEOUS!!
Cool. How is she now?
I truly believe the first season of Jessica Jones was the best season of all the Netflix Marvel shows.
good show but not as good as Daredevil. I wish they would scrap the Luke Cage show at least put it off for a while so we can get a Punisher series and sooner
Dude, are you watching Luke Cage atm? it's really fuckiung good man
Daredevil season 1 started slow, but got better halfway through, and got even better in season 2 with the introduction of the excellent Punisher. It's my 4th favourite series after Lucifer, The Flash and Agents of Shield.
Iron Fist wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. There wasn't much action like all the Netflix shows, but it was interesting trying to work out the dynamics of who's good and who's bad, and what their motives were. (Currently 10th on my list of favourite superhero shows out of 15)
Luke Cage again slow but had an interesting villain in Cottonmouth, then they killed him off. It went downhill from there. Boring and not much action. Shades was boring. Black Mariah was good at playing a bitch, but what threat could she really be to the indestructable Luke Cage when she has no superpowers? And the Diamondback character and story was just ridiculous.....all this because his daddy liked Luke better than him.
(Currently 14th on my list of favourite superhero shows out of 15)
Jessica Jones the slowest and most boring superhero show of all out of 15+ on tv. Just episode after episode of Jessica moping about not doing very much. Purple man was the shittest villain ever with his crappy mind control power. There were only around 3 interesting scenes throughout the whole series...the bar fight, the Police station, and Kilgrave killing his mum.
(Currently 15th on my list of favourite superhero shows out of 15)
Daniel Gardecki I used to love the flash too but now I hate it
The blonde guy is a marvel character called Nuke. He is a super-villain. That is why they focused on him. Just like they focused so much on the 'female friend' so much, because she too is a Superhero. They most likely set up season 2 with it. Fighting Nuke and dealing with Hellcat becoming a hero.
Some of the freaky shit they had him do to people just because he didn't care was difficult to watch. He had people slowly kill themselves not because it was something that interested him, but just because it was a way to give them something to do and get out of his hair.
He was absolutely brilliant in the role and unfortunately the series never matched that level of quality again.
I love this show.. it's great to me.. Kilgrave is now one of my favorite villain in the MCU.. but Kingpin is still my number 1 :D but Kilgrave is super creepy
He said kilgrave is his fav villain but kingpin is her #1 villain I don't know anymore
That doesn't make sense.
one of my favorite* sorry bout that

+SuperShah201 Kilgrave was pedophile level creepy, but Fisk was down right scray when he losses it

I had a feeling that they showed that much of Simpson (aka Nuke), because his backstory is linked to how Jessica's got her power, plus it's an origin story for him in a bit cause he's not the full supervillain called Nuke here, but he's getting there.
So yeah, it will probably matter in S2 what we learnt about that company that makes his pills, casue Trish started digging.
Good points. I also wonder if Trish will get a modified version of the formula in S2 that will transform her into Hellcat.
+Augustus Carter My thoughts exactly. It would make sense. That one scene works well a foreshadowing.
+Scyllaya Nuke is Frank Simpson, the military guy in the show is called Wil Simpson, I can't be the only person who's noticed this.
It also kinda led into Trish starting to become Hellcat. When she took his super pills and was like "Is this how you feel all the time?! I LOVE IT!"
Jessica Jahns confirmed?
Didn't want Killgrave to go, he Needs to come Bck Season 2 somehow
If he somehow survives what happened to him it would be more bullshit then Glenn's "death"
Maybe they will clone him. Then David Tennet can play another character. Hogarth can't have been the only person interested in the purple man's power.
+Cloud Sodding Strife I don't want to see him anymore, at the end I just wanted see him die
+chase brady I think in the comics he has some healing powers.
+Michael Silve He turned purple in the last scene that he is alive when he yells "stop".
David Tennant is the best Doctor and the best MCU villain, he might be the greatest actor of all time.
Greatest actor of all time? Let's not go that far.
+The Doctor Woah woah woah, tone it down a notch.
Great actor, but not best of all time. I mean, who is?
Matt Smith is the best Doctor then 9, 10 and 12
+Emmanuel Martinez 10th and 12th are actually my two favorites, Capaldi wasn't until Season 9.
This was uploaded on my birthday, and I Jesscia Jones is also my favorite Marvel/Netflix show
I didn't know Kilgrave had a twin brother!! I wonder what Jeremy's power is...
"You're not ten anymore."
Watch David tenant Fury of the Timelord clip from Doctor who he is freaken amazing
I like the show. I really do. But nowhere near as much as Daredevil. I know it's not a contest so I'll try not to make it one. I just preferred Devil. Killgrave is an excellent villain but I liked Fisk a lot more because you actually felt for him on multiple occasions. To the point where I wanted him to almost win. XD Also Devil has a much better supporting cast. Cage was my favorite in Jones and he just kinda fucked off for like six episodes. And What the HELL was with Robyn and Reuben?! Holy crap every time they showed up I was just like NOBODY CARES. Kinda felt that way about Jerri Hogarth too. And holy wow Hope was a bitch. Just...yeah I didn't enjoy the side characters as much.
+roarshach13 You nailed it.
+roarshach13 Really? While side characters like Foggy, Caren, Stick, and James were great characters like Vanessa, The nurse, the russians, the 2 detectives, the japanese dudes, owlsley, and that blonde chick that was fucking foggy were really underdeveloped and uninteresting. While in JJ I thought most of the characters were developed and very interesting. Also I think it's a little unfair to compare Fisk and Killgrave. Because one is a villain and one is on the road to become a villain. Overall I prefer JJ over Daredevil by just a little bit.
TheKevlar4 You're a moron. One of the major complaints about Jessica Jones is the poor writing and poor character development. You're telling me Simpson is a more interesting character? Robyn is a more interesting character? Lesbian lawyers are more interesting characters? Malcolm the stereotypical drug addict is a more interesting character? You're a moron. On top of that the characters weren't developed and were portrayed by weak actors. One is a villain? Fisk is the only villain, moron. Killgrave is a mentally, emotionally, and physically weak man who is lovesick, moron. He has no ambition, no intelligence, and no goals. Saying you like Jessica Jones more lets me know you're a moron.
MetusBatman V7 Hey now, there's no need for that. Having a different opinion does not make someone a moron. While I disagree with Kevlar, I don't think he's a moron for thinking the way he does. If he prefers Jessica then I'm glad! I'm not mad! I'm even a little jealous that someone liked it in a way I couldn't. So please, none of that. Having a preference doesn't make you stupid
TheKevlar4 While I agree with some of that, I feel like Vanessa is what MADE Fisk interesting. The fact that she knew that he was a person who did horrible things and wanted to stay with him anyway was actually really unique to me. Their relationship was one of my favorite things about the show.
I watched the entire show. This review is spot on.Except I will say it started out great then declined with every episode.Unnecessary graphic sex and violence ( trying way too hard to be edgy).
And feminism ideals are not so subtlety shoved in your face. By no means is it a bad show it's ok. Not worthy of the Marvel label though. I felt like I was watching HEROES..and that's a bad thing
I noticed that in order to have a strong female lead they need to emasculate males. Her two whiny and moronic neighbors. And the idiot cop boyfriend
the tone and elements of this show was kinda based off the comics alias.
+Night Rider The "graphic" sex and violence (it really wasn't that bad), fit the tone of the story. Also how were feminist ideals shoved in your face?
+Raptor Jesus I don't understand...Is it because it has a woman as the lead and a male rapist as the villain? Where does it scream feminism? If anything does that it's Supergirl
+Night Rider I saw no signs of feminism in this show. Care to explain where you saw this??
Jeremy, the way you describe Kilgrave's scenes are almost like he's mind controling us.
I love/hate kilgrave soo much
Are we talking about Killgrave or Negan I can't tell
Because David Tennant! He's amazing!!!
In the comics, Jessica Jones explicitly says that Kilgrave never once raped her or even touched her but mostly stuck to psychological torture. Are you saying that that is changed here or are you misunderstanding something? Because let me tell you that backstory REALLY does not need to be more depressing.
It was changed so that killgrave both physically, mentally and emotionaly abused Jessica. They also fleshed out kilgrave way more then in the comics and also changed how he got his powers and why he does all the things he does.
+Elijah Goh And also basically turned him into yet another petulant child villain with mommy/daddy issues..... Not something Marvel needed more of. The Kilgrave in the comic was far superior. This was a missed opportunity for Marvel in my opinion.
Brian Jones I disagree. Only Loki and Kingpin are the other villains who have so called "parents issues" and i feel that it made Kilgrave more understandable though not excusable. Also instead of making a cliche "parents abused/mistreat son", we later learnt that Kilgrave made the story up to gain sympathy from JJ and his parents were actually trying to save his life and the reason he was upset at them was because they were afraid of him after an incident when he threw a tantrum as a child causing his mother to injure herself and in fear abandoned him, thus he never had a person to teach him moral values and use his powers responsibly. I found the reunion really sweet ("I'm so sorry Mommy" showing he does feel guilt for injuring his mother as a child) and later tragic and horrifying ( the mother sacrificing her life to bring her son to justice by forcing him to display his powers causing her to literally cut her heart out). So for me, I could let this "parents issue" slide because it was executed so well.
The TV show changed it to that he actually raped her
Elijah Goh I strongly disagree..... not to mention the lovesick angle.... which by the end was a joke. This was FAR from the Kilgrave in the comic, and a much more wussified version of him. It was a missed opportunity for what could have been Marvel's Dark Knight Joker type of memorable villain, but instead it's just another stereotype that will be forgotten a few months from now. The tone they set with him from the beginning was just all wrong. This wasn't the guy that would walk into a restaurant and tell people to shut up..... This was a guy that would tell them to stop breathing..... He was more menacing, maniacal, and certainly not the love sick little lap dog chasing JJ around because he loved her. Such a missed opportunity.
2 more complaints: they never explain how Jessica was able to escape kilgraves power, and when kilgrave gets all powerful, he doesn't do anything. This is the guy who broke into a police station, forced everyone to aim their weapon at a fellow officer, and then passed it off as a joke. Will all of that, he could've been so more for the final act. And then, they could've brought Luke cage, and daredevil for this final showdown.
Exactly. No one points this out. How is she immune to him all of a sudden? They just tell us that somehow she is and never bother to explain it.
I think they mentioned that the final thing kilgrave had her do before the accident shocked her out of his control.
+Rahul Varma they will explain it in season 2. I thought that was obvious
They explain that it's like a viral infection, and an overly prolonged exposure to it, constantly, in small doses meant that Jessica (with her increased endurance/strength) built up an immunity. Kind of the same concept as a vaccination. And RE: Luke and DD coming for the final act, I wouldn't want that. It's Jessica's story, and the arc ends when she ends it. It's a personal thing, and she needed to handle it herself. Having the others come in would have made it look like she couldn't handle her own shit, and weakened her as a character. I can wait for The Defenders to see them all team up.
Anthony Piti Hope killed her parents. Same logic should apply there as well. But it doesn't seem to
David Tennant always has been fantastic, and now I love him in this too.
nice suit man, oh yeah great review
yo whats up with u not having reviewed luke cage yet?
This show is one of the best well-written TV Series. It had a strong emotional impact. We felt for Jessica's suffering. People's opinion varies, but this one reminds us, that a hero was also just a human being who also struggled for their life every day...
i just recently started watching Jessica Jones & i love the show ! :) kilgrave is really heartless a good villian for the story.
I love that "I would slap them" line
You are my favourite, and only film/show reviewer I can watch. You give a good, honest opinion of the thing in a nice, concise manner, you say what works and what doesn't objectively, while still maintaining your opinions and all your vids have good energy. You also give a good idea of what to expect in the thing without giving any spoilers away. Good job and conside rme subbed.
Now to go binge watch Jessica Jones!
Have you made a Luke cage review yet
I have no idea what it was that I didn't like about this show. I really really wanted to like this show, trust me. But after 5 or 6 episodes in I just felt like the show lost its entertainment value somehow, maybe it was the forced romances (aside from Jessica Jones and Luke Cages relationship, which wasn't really romantic but felt more real and interesting)? Or maybe it was (how I felt at least) how Killgrave seemed to lose his intimidation factor after he was like: "I want you to be with me willingly" or something along those lines (although I still thought he was a still a fantastic villain and a much better villain than Kingpin). What I do know though is that I didn't like how Jessica's or Killgraves backstories weren't explored more (or at least sooner) and how it just felt "too realistic" for me, and yes I know how stupid that sounds. But don't get me wrong, Daredevil was also really realistic, but I still felt like it had a layer of "comic bookyness" to it which gave it that-
-extra bit of "marvel magic" as I like to call it. Although I guess I can't really say much considering I still have 4 episodes left to watch, so maybe it might pick up? I don't know. Either way I may have not liked it because I was expecting more Daredevil esque content, or maybe because I had no idea who Jessica Jones was and I simply wasn't as hyped for it as I was for Daredevil, or didn't already have an instant attachment to her due to my lack of knowledge of her character. But at the end of the day this is simply my opinion and Jessica Jones is only a TV show. And anyone can watch what they want to watch and enjoy it as they please.
+Dino Wiz If you still aren't liking it through the middle (IMO best) section, then the last few eps aren't going to do it, sadly. I've had that happen where I really wanted to like something but just couldn't. You're not the only one who's mentioned the lack of super-hero-ishness a la Daredevil as a contributing factor (others just didn't think highly of the writing). Probably isn't a show you'll want to continue with, honestly. Fortunately, there are others ^^
+zerosysko I finished the show a while ago actually, and I must say episode 10 and onwards impressed me, it was the show I wanted it to be from the get go, although I felt that killing off Kilgrave in such an anticlimactic way was rather idiotic.
Dino Wiz
Oh, I'm glad. It did seem it little anti-climactic, but for me it seemed so because it felt like they'd already reached the height of the tension, then dragged it out 2-3 episodes longer which lost some of the momentum.
I liked the elements that went into the end - Kilgrave controlling more people (though he'd already done that), putting himself in a vulnerable position due to his deluded obsession and thinking he's already won while it's really a manipulation on Jessica's part for once, the "Smile" line, and putting Trish at risk - but altogether it didn't quite land as well as it could have. Maybe because I already knew she was faking? Nonetheless I still enjoyed it.
+zerosysko I'm honestly surprised Kilgrave didn't use common sense and didn't realize Jessica was faking, but then again I guess you can apply that to his deluded sense of mind at the time. I honestly think he should've turned purple when he took all of those pills as a nice little nod to his comic book counterpart. And he definitely shouldn't have been killed off, oh well. Well at least he had a healing factor in the comics and did survive getting run over so there's still hope for his return.
For a show being involved in the MCU - I thought it was extremely dark. The themes it touched on, the gore factor, the sudden death of one character in particular, it was amazing.
Show was epic! *Spoilers*
was hoping they didn't kill off Kilgrave in the end as I would've loved to see him evolve more a a character further in the down show like in another season
+Parmpal Bhachu Killgrave has a healing factor in the comics, and i believe in the series as well since he survived at least two things that should have killed him, he might come back.
+PochocloEn3D I never thought about that
+PochocloEn3D Maybe, but Jessica did literally snap his neck. I loved Kilgrave too but i think he needed to die for the pay off
+FeathertopDT True and if Killgrave comes back he'll be frightened of Jessica and won't go near her.
do a luke cage review please sir
i loved the show actually especially in the later episodes, it actually felt like i was watching a long movie than a tv show, the only marvel show i gave up on was luke cage after 5 or 6 episodes, it didnt feel worth my time but luke cage in jessica jones is precise and awesome, iron fist was awesome too but daredevil is still the best
Please do a spoiler review!
I've watch Jessica Jones, and it's really not my thing... her character is unlikable, drinking alcohol all the time, being sarcastic and trying to act though when she get beat by a girl with a stick (Robyn), It was long, not a lot of thing happen, there was like 5 sex scene in the first 3 episode, in the end she's still the same girl she was in the beginning of the season. But I'll admit I like Killgrave, he was the only character that kept me interested. But I also don't like Game of Thrones, and that show is everywhere, so I guess big dramatic talky show with sex in the mix is just not my thing, but I freaking loved Daredevil
Exactly
She got jumped by Ruben
also what is wrong with sex scenes?
YT Channel when there is like 3 sex scene in one episode it just feel like a porno (I want to see a Marvel show, not ''Sexy and Drunk vol 7''), and it doesn't really bring anything to the story. For exemple, when that simpson guy is eating Trish pussy, for like 30 sec, Jessica come in to talk with Trish. After they talk for a bit, Simpson come out of the bedroom in his underwear... wouldn't it be more effective if there was no sex scene, like Jessica we would have been surprise to see simpson coming out of Trish bedroom half-naked. so that sex scene wasn't necessary, it just felt force
Willie Houle The sex scenes were all around the beginning of the show and now that I have finished the show I barely remember all that, the sex scenes didn't bother me. I thought it kind of showed the relationship between JJ and Luke Cage very well, it's two damaged people that can connect to each other, they both have superpowers they have to hide. Imagine having the ability to have unbreakable skin or super strength like Luke does, having relationships with regular women wouldn't work out too well.
As for the Simpson thing, I don't see any problem with it it was just showing what they were doing I don't understand the problem with having sex scenes in a show..
Simpson just coming out in his underwear would make sense if this show was pg 13 or so but it's basically rated R so it makes sense they'd have sex scenes like that through the show. There's only like 1 or 2 sex scenes after the beginning of the show
Started watching here from Chris Stuckman's channel and man, this was a great review! I think you captured everything that made this show so unique in its own right and within the ecosystem that is Marvel's brand. Thanks for the content! Subscribed and cheers.
get your coffee, trow it in your own face. awesome!
I understand his gripes with Simpson but thematically, it all makes sense. This whole show was a metaphor for sex, and what that means to us personally. There's a really obvious one with rape and Kilgrave, but then we have Simpson and Trish. Simpson is that classic boyscout that likes things to fit into gender roles, its why he had that whole speech about playing with GI Joes saving Barbies, its why he was constantly trying to take charge of the Kilgrave situation despite being shut down by Trish and Jessica, and its why his power revolved around this hyper-masculine adrenaline booster.
Yes, Simpson is a character in the comic book universe. They slightly change the name but he is a soldier who was also part of the super soldier program. He has his own "antagonist" story arc for a reason.
The Jessica Jones ending was perfect. The way that it ended symbolizes the emptiness that she felt after she finished it--her mission was done; there is nothing next. All that is left is to think.
Why didn't she call the Avengers to tell her about Killgrave, he's like super duper powerful.
+d300wallace she doesn't need to know them
+d300wallace I just contacted you and I don't know you
+d300wallace plus, Tony Stark said his address in Iron Man 3, and you could find them easily, Ant Man sure did
+d300wallace did you see ant man? He found them by accident. And in Iron Man 3 that reporter lady walks up to his house and is like, "I mounted you 20 years ago, and now my boss wants to fuck you."
+d300wallace if Scott Lang can find them by accident, Jessica jones could find them way easier. Plus, she has some dope ass powers, she could just like break in a be like, "Yo, I need help, dawg."
You don't need to deny it, it's been a problem in every marvel property since 2012
"Jessica Jones" is indeed Marvel - but very different from what of Marvel fans should be used to. Not every superhero fan likes this show; it's way too mature and different from the mainstream-marvel stuff that comes with "The Flash" and Co. But just this aspect, makes the series to a jewel [ If you know what I mean ;) ], as it is rarely found. This series focuses more on the psychic aspect than on brutal scenes of violence (though they are rarely present), and that's what makes it so damn good.
Jessica Jones, played by Krysten Ritter, is a broken ex-heroine and an alcoholic who leads a ravaged detective bureau in New York - mainly to fund her addiction.
She desperately tries to somehow conclude with her traumatic past. She's constantly drinking alcohol to somehow cope with her mental health problems caused by a post-traumatic stress disorder caused by the supervillain Kilgrave. For months, damned to a life as his will-less playmate, she is mentally wrecked. So she distracts herself with meaningless sex and tries to keep the few good people away from her to hide her vulnerability. At heart a brave and honorable woman, she's still never the super heroine as one might imagine. Too much shit left her life as a ruin and she constantly staggers on the brink, towards depression and total collapse.
The theatrical performance served by Krysten Ritter and David Tennant (Doctor Who) is truly excellent and unrivaled. Absolutely great.
The thoroughly sociopathic and sadistic Kilgrave as mental manipulator is presented in a way that makes your blood freeze when you think about it. His power seems almost unlimited because his power can not be shielded or blocked with normal methods. He subjugates people of every social position with ease, bows their will to total loyalty, and is so powerful that Jessica, despite her enormous strength, simply has nothing to counter. The cruel thing is, that his victims feel an unruly urge to serve him. They want it, but they are trapped in their own minds and at the same time they are fully conscious. So they experience all the terrible things caused by them without any possibility of intervening in any way. This is purely evil.
The secondary roles are also really elaborated. They develop a web of relationships as it could not be better. Here one can only congratulate Netflix. Definitely the best show in the last few years.
Of course Jeremy wears a purple shirt and pocket square
+Drew Jones It is a handkerchief, moron.
+MetusBatman V7 No if it's worn in that pocket, it's referred to as a pocket square, so shut the fuck up, MORON.
TheSupreme Pro123 Says the insecure moron following me around.
MetusBatman V2 SHUT THE FUCK UP, MORON.
Carlos Malespin Oh look the insecure moron is copying me.
I reeeeeeaaaally didn't like Jessica Jones. I thought the character was incredibly unlikable, the supporting characters didn't matter, and the story just consisted of capturing Kilgrave and then him escaping. Like 4 times.
David Tennant was brilliant, though.
***** Daredevil is fantastic. Didn't really care for Foggy or Karen in season one, they seemed like kind of unnecessary characters, but season two was brilliant. super pumped for the set up for season three, and inevitable cross over with Defenders.
That's why I love Jessica Jones because doesn't look like a superhero thing at all besides killgrave is the best villain I ever seen, his superpower is supreme dude
way better than daredevil
Get a life
agreed.
+Freddy Krueger
go hunt people in thier dreams freddy.
They are really similar, sorry but remember the corridor fight in episode 2 of daredevil
+zero (looks at daredevil again).....nah
