Ever Crisis is releasing at a precarious time for mobile games. What it's promising is enticing, and I've had a lot of fun with it thus far. But when Square themselves just recently shut down multiple other titles, some less than a full year into service, it's hard to be that optimistic about its future. I hope their gamble here pays off and this becomes as big a hit as they're clearly looking for because it's one of the best in its genre of the year.

#FinalFantasyVII #evercrisis #gamereview #noisypixel - Hry
I would love to play this as a premium, console game. As a mobile gatcha game, though, I won't be touching it. I've had to burn that bridge behind me.
I wouldn't play a premium version of this, but rather a complete remake of the original in this art style. I think the battle system is garbage, its abridged story is just bastardizing of what the original game achieved, and I'd love to see some option that let the player choose between chibi and full design characters (a topic FF7 fans will certain be divided upon, I'm not team chibi and I played in 97). FF7 is a console series, but no reason Square couldn't attempt to fix the mobile space by making this a day to date premium release for both platforms and give it proper controller support on mobile. Not like mobile is lacking for options these days between the backbone, xbox controller, and PlayStation Dual Sense/Shock controllers all working with mobile in this way. Seriously I can hook my phone up to a TV now and use a Dual Sense to play Remote Play and Steam Link, but I can't to the same thing for an FF7 game like Ever Crisis? What is this?
You've made the smartest choice. Seriously hate gacha
You can always rebuild that bridge hahahahahahahaha
I would've HAPPILY paid $20-$30 for this game w/o the gotcha mechanics. I have to click out of 3-7 casino screens every time I start the game.
I opened up the game and got bombarded with 8 popups about top-up, event, news, and free items. The menu looks like one of those generic mobile RPG games. So many buttons that it looks like an airplane control panel.
They could have made more money releasing it as a normal game on consoles.
Hey, go play Chaos Rings 3. That is probably the only ever mobile game I will ever play ever again. I shut down about mobile games after Terra Battle shut down. That was the last one I really invested in. I hate stream only mobile games. That FF Brave Exvius: War of the Visions is disappointing too. I need these games offline and accessible.
Hell, they could cut this crap out and give FFs remake they deserve like FFVI.
@mac1bc pokemon duel, Terra Battle. Hey Egglia got a fully offline release on switch even with the gacha element intact. I don't understand why this is so hard for them to develop.
This is an awful microtransaction gatcha fest. In an ideal world we would have gotten a real game in the style of this
Welcome to modern gaming
agreed
@@NoisyPixelNews I hope someday someone can extract the assets and make a fan remake
This could've been $30
Capcom made a paid Offline version of their Mega Man X DiVe mobile gacha (no more micro transactions).
Hoping that SE will do the same with this when they decide to shut it down. 🙏
The First hour is great.
Then it devolves into a Gacha-fest that makes you play Crisis Core , before enjoying the rest of FF7.
yea, we're hoping to see more support and further updates to expand on the experience.
Shiit. Can l play on laptop
Just wait til the modders take or copy assets from Ever Crisis and put them into 7th Heaven mod manager for the original game.
Long story short:
Don't spend on this game as it may not last beyond 2 years before shutdown.
Customs and characters aren't even the gacha.
The gacha gives weapons that barely impact gameplay.
I just want a remaster with this chibi style together with the remake battle graphics.
I hate the chibi look
@@LostHope84 Yes! I am so done with Chibi. I have seen it enough in older games, and they are going this route with Dragon Quest X offline version.
Does this mobile version include all story chapters from the OG game?
It's so sad to see this being a mobile game i would have loved to see that as a premium console game.
It's weird because octopath traveler and dragon quest 11 exist and should prove to SE that turn base can still work.
And i guess Baldur's gate 3 to some extent too now.
Just give us back turn base high budget game.....
Ff7 remake sold more than all of those COMBINED.
You can add
Triangle strategy
Octopath 2
And still FF 7 remake sold even more.
I Agree Dragon Quest 11 is miles better than any of the new Final Fantasy games.
@@joshuafoss3429 and consider that triangle strategy, and octopath 1 and 2 are very mid
1:35 A short version of the bombing mission????
Do people realise that if you don't pay for gatchas they might actually stop doing it?
Thanks this is the sort of review I was looking for.
I only played the first stage (the opening mission) before deleting this gacha crap, but the 'random' encounters are not random; if you reenter the stage you'll see that they appear at exactly the same spot with exactly the same enemies and provide 0 exp/gil after battle, this includes the scorpion boss.
I don’t like that at all
Saved me a hell of a lot of time & money, cheers for that!
Do choices matter in the game?
My only hope that is we eventually get a Apple Arcade or Google Play Pass version of this game , with IAP removed
I'd be all over this if it wasn't littered with microtransactions, what a shame.
Feels like Shinra runs this game
1:16 man that song is fire
Noisy pixel you rock!
This is more or less the Final Fantasy 7 Remake that all of us that were around for the original game wanted... And it's a fucking phone game with micro transactions.
This tells me everything that I need to know about how SQUEENIX views the customers who got them to where they are today.
They have no idea who they are as a company, they have no idea what a Final Fantasy game is and talk down to those who know what they want to see in Final Fantasy all in an attempt to chase the dollars of children who they can scam out of a few bucks at a time one micro transaction after another. This game pisses me off on a fundamental level.
Square hasn't really made a final fantasy "we" have wanted since merging with Enix. I've never played and enjoyed any games by enix, I was absolutely torn when they merged. FF9 was the first square-enix branded FF game, and IMO the last good FF game.
It would be so freakin easy to just remake the original with these graphics and ask for 30-40 bucks for it. But why listen to fans ever?
to me, there are no more mobile games being created. All of them (like this one, sadly) are slotting machines built with the only purpose to have infinite microtransactions and grind focusing gameplays. There are powerful devices right now that could be explored to make funny and adictive games like augmented reality but the only focus are the gachas
Yet another way for Square Enix to drain the lifestream from their fans.
This would have been such a good companion title for FF7 Rebirth, but it just had to be a gacha.
Pretty poignant comment. SQUEENIX has become Shinra.
So does this include the full FF7 game or did they just bamboozled me?
Most mobile game do something to keep you hooked for years.
but I do not see even the most insane spenders spending money on this game after all chapters are released
The story/chapter content is the thing that they're hoping keeps people coming back. There's like six games worth of story coming to this title; I have no doubt that that's gonna stretch out over several years as long as the game survives.
You know...
People thought FGO would end after the 7 singularities, but no it didnt
Thalen people thought it would end after the 7 lostbelts, and guess what, it didnt either.
Sane here. The world is the canvas, the original plot can be expanded
I really wih this game could be launched also on PC and consoles.
amen to that, and if its popular like genshin impact and Honkai Star Rail it might get a PC client like these to games :)
,so lets cross our fingers :)
its on steam
I played it even got the most high rank weapons armor but the gameplay and story was not what i imagined
It's a true shame that Square made both this game and First Soldier mobile scam games. Both of these entries on console as fully fleshed games would've/could've been top sellers.
They only release on one console so that’s not true at all. Not even pc. Just TrashStation. Mobile games like this do well with their intended audience.
Why is it labeled "Story" when you're talking about battle mechanics for the majority of the segment?
Are you saying Tales of Historia/Luminaria are SqueEnix games? Cuz they’re not. They’re both from Bamco.
I could not had to uninstall tried to like it really
This is exactly what I wanted FF7 remake/rebirth to be on console. Turn based with epic graphics.
Careful with Auto Battle.. along with making fights last about 3-5x times longer...there are just some fights where you need to attack more than defend...you dont need to wait 5 minutes just to constantly cap health on the last hit on the boss... I love how annoying that is ...makes me think and actually play...wich is what i want from a mobile game in the first place.
They should definitely work on the matchmaking systems though.
It's funny that the one time we get FFVII in turn based form. It's a fucking gacha game 😂🤦🏽♂️
damn . seems cool though having played the original ff7 on a ps1 XD
RIP Crestoria
Still in mourning
They should just give us a turn based RPG based on these characters models and the new updated environment art.
It's like every game on mobile. It just looks better. But there is no such thing as f2p. There's I'm not spending money and grind or I have to spend money to play (Harry Potter)
wish i can play without vpn
It could have been pretty cool if they actually designed it like a game instead of a cheap cash-grab slot machine. Why couldn't they make the main game free exploration and "open" world content like Star Rail does? The main gameplay of this game is just navigating a badly designed menu without any actual gameplay. They literally spent 3 years developing this glorified gambling app. Gross.
I mean the thing with Star Rail, and Genshin for that matter, is that they're arguably even more money-hungry given how low their pull rates are, but they're also likely way more expensive to develop. There's also the fact that Ever Crisis has multiple plotlines that take place across an entire planet; they can't tell stories one location at a time. An open world model simply wouldn't work here.
@@ColinNP A hub world (even just a 1:1 recreation of the OG ffvii world map from disc 3) would have worked, even with the chapter-based storytelling. The chapters could be tied to a specific area and started or replayed by interacting with a marker in that area. Criterion dungeon entrances could be scattered in the game world, such as mako reactor 1's entrance being at the train station for example, similar to genshin and star rail's domains. An explorable hub world would have been more immersive approach compared to the current menu. Also they already have the exploration controls, character models, and animations. What is the point of making all of those when they are rarely used at all? Especially when they have to make 2 models for each gacha skin they put out. When it comes to development expenses, Square Enix has enough money, and they already spent 3 years developing EC. For that amount of dev time this just feels like bare minimum effort, and having more variety in gameplay is hardly an unrealistic expectation.
@@SThazeST Instead of a MiHoYo game that's clearly intending to last at least several years, like bare minimum, SquareEnix still makes major gachas that you can believe that if it shut down within a year or two, that still might fit with their lower espectations. That's some old standards there but they haven't grown up yet.
I love this game soooo much....I was a huge fan of opera Omnia... but it doesn't even come close with the amount of characters ... especially with those graphics... I miss the first soldier moba as well.
The gotcha isnt too crazy...I read all the other comments...just like opera Omnia..unless you want EVERYTHING..you can certainly get the things you want with how much premium currency is just shoved in your face for free. The comments are weird...
That soundtrack! So good
cant go wrong with old ff7 soundtrack
What a shame. Had this been released on the Switch or Steam, this would have been money! But nope! I love the graphical style but the limiting dungeon crawling was a turn off. This has so mucb potential but it had to be a gatcha.
Can you play free all the way through?
You can complete all currently very limited story content within a day if you know exactly what to do, or days if you don't but you play active, or over a week or two if playing casually and sporadically. No spending.
@@SwobyJ thanks.
Are all the content there or they're divided?
I mean is the story complete?
@@kurapikanostrad4592 Not even remotely complete. It'll take years of updates. FFVII campaign is a stripped down (with some additions) version of Midgar portion, though future content or events may elaborate on it later. Crisis Core is just the start of it. First Soldier, a new story, has a few chapters just before some clearly bigger stuff comes in Oct. There's a few character stories (Cloud, Tifa, Aerith).
The story wouldn't be complete, its a live service gacha game, and its likely holding back on some content and context until Rebirth is out.
There's several playable units: Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, Barret, Red XIII, Zack, Glenn (new), Lucia (new), Matt (new). Gacha is weapon not characters, but gacha has connections to the costumes you may collect.
Was fun up until end game. You can't even get weapon mats you need (literally 0 will drop) for 20 stamina. if DO get one to drop it's literally 1. This is with 3x stam AND the event bonus to drops. How does this make sense one may ask? it fucking doesn't.
Can't be the only one who feels that the Crisis Core exploration part is more of a downgrade, now can I ? Especially if you played the latter in 1080p on PPSSPP with HQ textures. Also, it seems to lack gamepad support and i really dislike touchscreen controls
I'm enjoying this free to play game. 🎮
Woop!
Most Gacha games I've always grinded and never bought. If it takes longer to past a certain section or boss so be it. It's patience more than anything. I've only just downloaded today and noticed they cut out a few sections in the first missions in the reactor core.
How much SE has screwed up FF continues.
I'm sad that Square Enix goes into the predatory business of lootbox/gacha games.
Nothing wrong with mobile gaming (after all, tablets and phones have more power than a PS2 these days), but why are nearly all mobile games this lootbox/gacha crap instead of real games?
Written September 20, 2023
@Bahamut3525
Because 5 minute gotcha mobile games sell way more than paid console mobile games that cost 25-60$ upfront. It’s also because most paid console games require skill to play and aren’t the 5 minute style that phone gamers are used to, especially for a mainly touchscreen device
Edit I myself have many console games on mobile so they are on mobile for those who look. (This FF game is just catering to that 5 minute gameplay)
@@Jwatchdizzledrip3003 Gacha, for gachapon.
It's not exactly a new thing though. Brave Exvius has been there for years. And Record Keeper. And War of the Visions. And Opera Omnia. There was Mobius too although that has been shut down. And maybe I'm forgetting something...
Also release i other regions like SEA.
Wow do you review other Gacha games?? You know your stuff
Can't tell if sarcasm, but I have personally reviewed a couple of other ones, yeah.
@@ColinNP not at all, it's what I mainly play
I think we need to stop looking at these slot machines like they're actual games.
mobile 😮💨
sad day
SQENIX and all gacha games are just too greedy. First you've got the weapon gacha, but that's not even the worst part. The materia upgrade system is what made me bite the bullet. This is a crazy time and money sink.
Good. People should stop giving money and time to these greedy people who don't respect us.
END MICROTRANSACTIONS BY NOT SUPPORTING IT.
finally get a Final Fantasy 7 "remake" in the style we all wanted, but of course it's a mobile game filled with gacha and microtransactions bullshit.
Awarding this game a 7.5 is WILD lol. It's a 3/10 at most. Just a cynical, hollow, bastardization of a classic game. I would've preferred paying $20-$40 for an actual remake in this style, for mobile or otherwise.
Sad that Final Fantasy VII means nothing to Square
And the story ends once you leave midgar now we need to wait again.. I thought the entire ff7 story was available from the beginning
It's the longest out of any of the planned story content, so they'll probably add a few more chapters every time the game updates in addition to whatever other plots get new content.
@@ColinNP I wouldn't be surprised if FFVII takes up to 3-4 years (maybe 2). Unless they intend on pushing hard through FFVII but adding on another layer for FFVIIR trilogy (once Rebirth is out and they're going into or past the final game).
@@SwobyJ I think the plan was probably to have Ever Crisis out last year and be much further along by the time Rebirth came around, especially since Intermission already made it clear that the *whole* original canon is up for inclusion in the new universe.
Do you people think developers shouldn't get paid or what?
I was never a fan of these type of avatars, only realistic only crisis core
They ruined ff7 cash grab I didn’t even bother downloading it
So it's a great game, one of the best in the genre... you're worried it won't stay online, so 7.5 out of 10? I don't understand the logic here.
This is so awful that even it being free won't save it.
This product is just disrespectful to everyone and the game itself.
the gacha system is horrible. especially when you can’t even get the exclusive outfits unless u get 12 stamps lmao
Yeah modern square is a joke
meh i still stay with star rail where don't spent any money and got everything i want :3
Dont have it in singapore. Fail
So this is what we got instead of dffoo
There is a reason why I am avoiding all gacha games. I don’t like any of them then, I don’t like any of them now. Period.
I would have rather brought an entire gane with this style instead.
Gacha system is a huge mess
Potential for actual premium console game would have sold hotcakes.
Not spent a single penny on a microtransaction and currently ranked in top 200 in new ranked dungeon
Games aren’t child gambling trainers. F this game.
microtransactions have ruined everything
why not make the entire series non gacha shite and release it as a full game
Lost me at gatch
You lost me at free to play.
I've played some gacha games that were enjoyable, even if I had to pay a little money now and then. I find you don't need to pay money to play Ever Crisis, but aside from the graphics, this game is worthless. It's hollow. The battle mode is entirely boring and unlike the original FFVII. I would have rather paid $60 for this style of the game with the original battle mode.
fsad
Too much ff7. Overload. 😂
looks like zero
Good game for FF fans, but for JRPG on mobile fan, HSR is way better.
I played for 15 minutes, then uninstalled this crap.
Should have just been a remake instead of this god awful diluted ff7
NOOOO MOOORE GAATCHA CRAP GAMES
This game sounds lame.
I won’t even bother to play this gacha loaded crap.
"is a free to play mobile game-"
Dropped. Why even review this?
We gotta do what we gotta do!
This game is 💯 times better than STARFIELD.
How are you comparing a mobile game to a triple A game?
@@GilgaMax305he is a FANBOY full of salt😅
U mad Sony fanboy? 😂
This game is just trash and it is so sad FFVII had become what it has a Souless Gacha.
FF7 had become worse BEFORE they made those gacha games in the 26 years since the original PS1 game first came out
2 terrible sequels, 1 great prequel and then there's the rest of the Compilation of FF7
not to mention how tarnished the game got after Square-Enix kept whoring out in other FF games and their other IPs to cash in on nostalgia
how is ALL of that possible? simple answer: Tetsuya Nomura
XD
Micro transactions crap again
