Thanks Dr Dray for the great review! I tried numerous chemical sunscreens before giving up on them. My skin is so sensitive that I just can't tolerate even the Japanese and Korean ones, so I appreciate you including mineral options. My new fave by a mile is the Neutrogena mineral tinted in the light shade. I also use Elta MD UV Pure which is @ $30 for 4 ounces. The Australian Gold Fair is great if I am going to be working outside all day - while not as cosmetically elegant as Neutrogena, it wears like iron and is a nice matte option when so many of these tend to be a bit shiny on me. Hope you are having a wonderful day! - Sam

I was one of those very fair children who grew up on the beach in SC and stayed constantly sunburned. I had a few blistering burns on my face and shoulders (it was the 50s and 60s, so not much protection back then). This year I had 70 actinic keratoses frozen off my legs. I keep my sunblock in the shower and slather up all over now, as soon as I dry off.

  • @SarahArnoldTheAccidentalArtist

My favorite is Australian Gold Tinted as it does blur imperfect skin variations too and stays on when I sweat. I love the MDSolar Sciences mineral cream (new to Costco online) because it has wonderful ingredients. But I cannot wear that when I sweat or work out, it is too slick and seems to make me sweat more. I think it is the silicone slip. However, I enjoy it when not in sports. But it does not blur my skin like the Australian Gold which I have to use mineral water to remove. AG is thick and also moisturizing with shea butter. Good for dry skin!

I like it after I use Elta MD SPF 41 tinted and Cotz 35/40 (from Ulta) and Sun Bum SPF 30. Oddly, the one(s) that works best for my ears and forehead and neck area are the Japanese sunscreens: Skin Aqua or HADA LABO UV Perfect Gel SPF50+ 90g. The Japanese sunscreens work great for the neck and ears - by far!!!

Also the face-only formula in the small shaker bottle doesn't pill over moisturizer but the face & body formula will, so I use it alone, it feels very moisturizing but not greasy. and the Judith Williams vitamin C spf30 (for the encapsulated vit C and niacinamid).

I’ve used the Australian gold tinted face sunscreen for a year. For me it behaves like a bb cream. I LOVE it. I actually stopped wearing foundation because this is sufficient for light coverage. It’s moisturizing, not too matte and not too shiny. I can’t recommend it enough.
Update! I tried 3 more tinted face sunscreens (all drugstore) this summer for melasma. Hawaiian tropic tinted mineral sunscreen isn’t too shabby! It blends nicely. Beware it is scented but that hasn’t bothered my skin. I tried Eurecin too, the tinted mineral face, and unfortunately it’s not my fav. It’s very orange so it doesn’t work well for pale skin. It also stained the collars of my white clothes, so make sure to have a stain remover handy if you try that one. It didn’t stay smooth on my face like some of the others I’ve tried.
We just went to Florida and I used (1) Eurecin spf 50 with hylauronic acid on my body the entire trip. I LOVE IT!!!! Fav body chemical sunscreen this summer. Used (2) la roche-posay spf 100 (found on clearance at target a while back) and loved it too! Even used it on my face and it did not sting or burn at all. The (3) yellow beach neutrogena spf 70 worked well also. Can’t go wrong with any of those 3! I normally only use mineral sunscreen, but decided to give chemical a try on this trip.

The Australian Gold is the only sunscreen that I can put on my nose without breaking out. It feels too thick on areas of my face that move a lot, so I just use it on my nose and sometimes my forehead, and it has a nice pore-blurring effect. I put the original Colorescience Sunforgettable on the rest of my face if I want more makeup-like coverage, or a k-beauty spf like BoJ if I want to look more bare skinned.
It may seem odd to put different spf on different areas of my face, but I promise it looks just fine!

I bought the Neutrogena face serum for my boys who don't like thick sunscreen or makes their faces shiny - I had my 16 yr old put it on before a day at/near the beach (and it was cloudy) - I saw him put it on but he came back with a sunburn and he wasnt out all day. I have been reaching for the new Neutrogena UV tint on days when I know I will get more sun because it has staying power - its a little thicker than I prefer but my skin absorbs it well. But they need to fix the packaging! It leaks so bad!

I never used to wear sunscreen on my body but now I wear it everyday because I noticed sunspots on my arms.

I wanted to like the Neutrogena ultra sheer serum, but it burned my eyes so badly, even when I was careful not to apply too close. It also felt it made my face look a little oily (I have normal, slightly dry skin). I do still like their Clear Face lotion, though.

The neutrogena serum spfs are amazing. Ive tried all 3 so far. They also have a clear face 60 serum version! Down side is they come in smaller sizes and are pricey for neutrogena. I have noticed the invisible daily version does burn my eyes after several hours.

My favorite is definitely the Black Girl Kids Sunscreen. I wish they had a bigger size. I don't go anywhere without it. Since I live in sunny & sweaty Florida sun & heat and I have to walk everywhere it is so perfect! 💛💛💛 It takes a minute to absorb but once it does its super comfortable. Love it! 💛💛💛

I have been loving Hero Cosmetics Force Shield Superlight Broad Spectrum - SPF 30 ($24.49 at Target, but I found mine at a salvage store for $3). Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer Mineral SPF 47 ($16 at TJ Maxx) and Trader Joe’s Daily Facial Sunscreen ($8). Oh and anything by Coola or SuperGoop that I find at Marshalls/TJ Maxx. The closest I have come to your list is Black Girl Sunscreen at TJ Maxx for $6, and it was excellent.

This video answered some questions I have had for years. My base line skin color is rather light, but I have compulsively tanning skin that does not burn easily. I always had a few little freckles, but starting in my late forties, my freckles became bigger sun spots. (This is a super common problem for Asians.) I could go outside, sneeze, and come back a Dalmatian. The mystery was, I always wore SPF 50 mineral sunscreen. Recently, however, my sunspots receded and haven’t gotten worse. I couldn’t figure out why. After watching your video, it occurred to me that I recently changed sunscreens and that maybe that was why my sunspot problem got better. I went to check my sunscreen tube, and sure enough, it said “PA+++.” It seriously made a difference! Very informative, thank you!

I love Eucerine Advanced Hydration 50. It has hyaluronic acid and humectants, is available at CVS, and comes in a large bottle. It feels great on the skin and doesn't pill up with my other skin care products. The only issue is that it leaves a sheen on my skin. I solve the problem by gently tapping on a translucent powder to dull the shine. I am always more satisfied with that as opposed to the tinted sunscreens I've tried.

My favorite mineral sunscreen is the R&R sun serum-it's SO good!!! The only chemical sunscreens I use is on my body (burning eyes is not for me) and I live the Banana Boat Light as air or the Black Girl Sunscreen Spray. All other sunscreens feel to greasy on my skin. Can you do a video on reapplication of sunscreen on the face over makeup? I struggle with this. I work from home and do sit next to a window and apply my sunscreen in the morning. When I go outside I do wear a hat &/or touch up with a powder SPF or facial spf spray but was wondering if that's enough protection. I don't wear foundation just concealer and blush, but feel gross applying sunscreen over that. Any suggestions or tips? Thanks so much for all your videos!!! I've learned SO much and truly have saved so much money thanks to you!
