Around the Lochs on the West Highland Line (between Fort William and Mallaig in Scotland, UK), which was threatened with closure before the year of this video production (1986), but Scotrail (the Scottish Division of British Rail) had other ideas and re-introduced a daily steam service (May to October) which is still going strong, and now known as "The Jacobite".

I remembered this when it was first aired. The BBC could produce good programmes back then.

The whole west highland lines are doing absolutely amazingly well! The Oban services are poised to double! Sprinter services on the Mallaig branch are well patronaged. Thank goodness the line was saved.

The steam lives on with the West Highland Line with the Jacobite, the only steam service in this country which will regularly run, within a set time period obviously.

I was stuck for about 30 minutes while heading toward Inverness from Edinburgh. We stopped and backed up about a mile and sat for a wee bit. Then, after the snow was cleared, we went ahead. It was a wonderful time in the February 2008 trip through Scotland.

Folks. You'll get better contrast if you actually make pic near 1/2 darker until the green foliage gets really more green, the gloss on metal is more glossy, and the black really black. Takes a while to get used to. But you'll eventually begin to see it ....M
