My dream job is to become a IGN reviewer. Not because I want to review games myself, I just want to know what they smoke there
They gave Paper Mario Color Splash, Sonic Free Riders, and The Last of Us 2 a higher score than this btw
I played the original 3d mario world and let me tell you it is absolutly no a 9.5 or 9.2 game, it is one of the weakest 3d mario games if not the weakest (yes even compared to Sunshine) I wouldn't give it a 7 either. This game is an 8 maybe an 8.5 but keep in mind they are charging $60 for an 8 year old game, what other publisher does that?

They should really take their time to play and let games grow on them, so they can have a final verdict. They should also have a way to mention about changing the verdict score. And they should put together some of the IGN communities thoughts on a specific game and put them together on an average score while also having one person doing the review and sharing their thoughts and personal score.

Peach is for if you wanna do float skips in exchange for slow air speed and walk speed mario is for players who want balance in all fields jumping running and all else is just medium. Luigi is if you want super high jumps to get places higher then others and also being able to jump wider gaps toad is if you want to be fast on foot and in air in exchange for lower jumps. Rosalina is literally just a double jump in exchange for being slow??? I FAIL TO SEE HOW IGN THINKS THIS IS UNBALANCED LOL

I do agree, if you die, it's because it makes you learn from your mistakes in the level so you can progress. Assist mode and super guide should have NEVER existed

@@NedsonMonteiro Yeah I was going to mention the same - that is actually quite embarrassing and makes no sense. It was the game that received that rating - time hasn’t changed the game, so rather they’re either saying they were completely wrong the first time or somehow their objective views have changed based on the current time, which still seems a tad far fetched for that drop.

Clearly he was demonstrating what he was saying in the voiceover - that you're invulnerable to enemies but not to falls. It's called a visual aid, very handy in an audio-visual medium.

I don't get this review of assist mode. Assist mode in odyssey primarily helped find the final place to go. How you gonna have that in a LINEAR game.

I think you're confused on what a review is. What you're looking for is a guide or preview.
You're expecting an IGN reviewer to bring that up? They probably don't even know about those features, or even know it can be played on handheld mode.

@@tgirltouhou Why should games have easier modes? What's wrong with having one set difficulty that it's on the player to beat? There are things in the game to make it easier, but it shouldn't save you from jumping in pits or just beat the level for you.

The section of the review is talking about accessibility for younger/new player. He mentions the invincible leaf item, while useful against enemies is completely useless since falling off the map is a far bigger hazard in the game.
IGN then shows a said clip of the leaf not saving him from falling off the map.

To be fair this one kinda makes sense. The goal is the help the player beat the level. Considering the platforming is much harder than just avoiding the enemy, I actually agree with them in this one.

@@marcar9marcar972 I mean I've used the super leaf before and it makes the game way easier. The purpose is to make it so you don't have to worry about anything other than platforming and even that is made easier with the endless glide. If even with all that you STILL can't beat a level then maybe it's just not the game for you, there's no reason the game should hold your hand on every missed jump on top of already making it so you don't even need to have precise jumps anymore. Plus it literally gives you one of the leaves as soon as you respawn so there's not even any real punishment.

Makes a lot more sense when you realize that he said this when talking about multiplayer mode, a mode that the game isn't really designed too well for and since everyone shares lives, you're bound to run out way quicker. I think it can be considered partially the game's fault if its design for multiplayer is lacking.

Why did he complain that everything was a cat? what was the point in that, who cares if they chose not to put cat ears on everything, what's the difference, would he have preferred it if they looked like normal enemies... I really don't get it.
The dude runs into enemies dies and complains the game is too hard or the controls are bad, sees new characters with their own unique moves, and complains that they are all not boring Mario clones, jumps off the edge, and complains... wtf its a platform game, pretending like that doesn't happen in Sunshine or Odyssey imagine a platform game that doesn't kill you when you fall off the map...
IGN either need to get rid of their reviews or give them a serious overhaul, by sending this guy back down to the mailroom for a 1st and having the maximum number of reviewers be 3 for 2nd.

A 7 is brutal but i get what he is saying. More isnt always better if it degrades the overall quality of the game. For example i loved the Resident Evil 7 base game but the dlcs where so bad that it negatively impacted my whole view on the title.

Wow, that was harsh. As someone who played the WiiU version, I think this is one of the best co-op experiences in all of gaming.

I think people misunderstand that generally with reviews. Theres no fixed score that everyone agrees with or should be put in a review. I have seen people put lower score than 7 and higher than 8 on this and no one is wrong in that.

odyssey is easily the easiest, you don't finish the level by ground pounding in a glowing spot in 3d world
One of the best mario games in the past 10 years ported to be fully playable anywhere and all the speed issues fix. Plus a whole new fresh take on mario in an open world experience. So everything better than the 2013 version….. which you gave a 9.6 so basically a 10 on today’s scoring scheme. Now 7. Absolute chronic review.

All of those things are your opinion, not an objective fact. So the fact that the reviewer gave the game a lower score doesn't immediately make the review "chronic", what if the reviewer just didn't like the game as much?

Personally I do believe this is so much more fun than Odyssey, just pure and constant creative and challenging platforming, which is mostly what Mario should be about IMO. No matter if you prefer this or Odyssey, the score is definitely a 9.9 or 10, it's definitely a true and awesome masterpiece.
Have you tried the post game moon challenges they make star road in world look like a Sunday stroll .

It’s sad the Mario fanbase is this entitled, they even complained when 3D Allstars got lower than expected reviews even though Mario fans complained about that collection for months

Like, they get a lower score cause there's character variety and a whole new OPTIONAL mode, even though the og got 9.6? And, one of their main points for the lower score was that there's no assist mode, which is weird, cause the og didn't have one.

More than the bad writing and inconsistent complaints, what bugs me the most about reviews like this is how openly they spoil surprises in the game. Any first time player should not be watching this review, and should not be reading this comment either if they haven't watched the review (I'll now be addressing the things he spoiled).
Rosalina is a post-game unlockable that literally requires you to beat the entire main game to unlock. That was such an unexpected reward my first time through back on Wii U, I'd hate to rob that of its surprise factor for new players. And that Mario Kart stage was a total shock to stumble across and blew my mind. Now reviewers like this one just ruin way too many of the coolest surprises a game has to offer.
All you're doing is revealing some of the best things in the game to first time players who might be coming to this review to find out if it's worth buying or not.
This certainly isn't as bad as when IGN spoiled the entire twist of Shadow of the Colossus in its review, but please stop doing this and robbing people of the magic of their first experience with a game. Thanks.
